That's another link via Legends66NBA7 on the main board, and according to Bcogswell the game is also on NBATV Canada.
Game was sluggish in terms of controlling the ball. Understandable, since it's only the first game.
Really liked what I saw from Ross, Val, Gay, and Hansbrough. Would still like to see DeMar score more in the post area, really like that one of move he had in the 3rd. Defensively, we were great, although it should be mentioned that the Celtics didn't have their best offensive playmaker on the floor.
Looking forward to see if Val can continue to get more minutes and try to limit his foul count.

I am both surprised by the minutes Hans the monster played and his efficiency in the paint.
I understand its preseason..no doubt...
But if this keeps up I would say he could provide important pressure on Gray for productive minutes off the bench.

First time Bargnani facing the Raptors as a member of the Knicks.
I haven't seen all the games, but i've truthfully been disappointed by what i've seen out of Rudy Gay. I hope he becomes much more effient and aggressive once the season starts.
Rudy Gay will have no plays called for him, no development opportunties.
This is preseason. Work the lesser parts in.
Too early to judge.
What is perhaps more significant is that Derozan seems to be hot in scoring; this at a time when I doubt plays are being called for him frankly. His minutes should be down and touches limited in set plays as they work rotations. This "may" indicate a new assertiveness on Derozan's part which is "possibly exciting"
^^ It's not like he had any plays called for him during the season last year either. Granted, he didn't have a summer with the team but I don't really trust in Casey's ability as a coach to integrate him into the offense properly. I've seen too much of the "give the ball to Rudy and get the f*ck out of the way" offense in his tenure here. And in all honesty, he's not good enough for that play. This is Rudy Gay not Lebron James.

Gay joined the team with what 20 games to play ? Further by all accounts pressure from the GM suite to throw something offensive on the floor. Bit of a pun that actually.
Gay is a self play maker. While give him the ball and let him create is an incomplete O strategy.... forcing him to constantly drive and dish or play only scripted off ball slashes to the rim is also an incomplete O strategy.
There is a lot of commentary that Gay Derozan play the same, too much duplication, too much D.
I too suspect this team will be "somewhat o challenged" but there are more coaches than Casey here.
Like I said earlier - there is a big 7 game stretch in early mid Jan with a lot of home games and mixed calibre of talented opponents. I dont think we will really know if the scribes, duplications, lack of coaching accumen on the o side is real or not till then.
Looks like we're gonna be running a lot of ISO with Derozan and Gay. Against the top teams in the league that's just not gonna cut it. But then again we are still at best a 7-8th seed if a whole hell of a lot goes right.
What a game this has been so far. One thing I can say about this team is that win or lose we're gonna be exciting!

Nothing entertaining about those two taking a couple dribbles, pulling up and taking bad off-balance long 2 pointers all year.
I'd prefer to see lots of Jonas and them just throwing Ross out there and seeing if he can at least be a rotation player in the NBA.

True, but I also think were going to be a "grind it out" type of team. So while we do have 3 top dunkers, I think were going to be in a lot of close games. Have got to find away to either do better in the quarters and minimize other teams from going on big runs or close out the game in the 4th much better than last season.
Well one thing is, the big run started when we put in our bench guys and the starters were put in to stop the bleeding. While we do have capable second string players, we still don't have enough depth to have 5 bench guys in at one time. We'll probably have to do like other teams and have either Derozan or Gay be out there part time with the 2nd unit. But yeah I see us being a grind it out team as well. Only thing that worries me about that is that I would hate to be another grind it out team who loses the vast majority of our close games as we have in the past.

I actually saw a lot of ball movement and fast breaks in last nights game. This is an athletic team and to me, it's exciting to see a team get out and run.

Actually I thought the game not typical but I was equally impressed and entertained.
I presume this game is Coach D just letting the bench guys play and see how they respond. This kind of D efficiency is not in the cards if this team hopes to compete for a play off spot ( neutral - just saying this is the management goal).

I think Z-Bo should be suspended for that elbow on JV. He knew the game was over and he had 5 personal fouls at the time. He deliberately elbowed JV because he was being dominated the whole game and played it off like an accident at first.. I was at the game and watched him talking trash on the sidelines the whole time after. The guy is a classless sore loser.

The Raptors may make a lot of changes to their roster, but Valanciunas is one of the guys to hold onto.
He has oodles of potential and he'll be in the league a long time.
Johnson finally stepped up last year. With Johnson and Valanciunas, that's a nice athletic pair for the frontcourt. Johnson plays hard. His effort is there and his length is good.
He's not a big-time rebounder, but he fights, he contests shots and he can finish a little bit. Having Tyler Hansbrough competing with Johnson on a daily basis is going to pick it up for Amir, and that's probably something he needs.

Is he a catch-and-shoot three-point guy? No, but that part of his game will expand because he has good mechanics. The way he works to come off screens is a tribute to Casey and the execution of running sets and getting shots in the flow of the offense, as opposed to the iso-type thing.
Isos are necessary sometimes, too, but for the meat and potatoes you want to work within the system. DeRozan can't carry a good team yet, but if he's your fourth or fifth player, you're in great shape.
He has length defensively and he competes.
Casey is better than he gets credit for.
He's very organized and seems prepared. I don't think his talent has allowed him to be successful enough.
He'll coach the team the same way even though he's in the last year of his deal, and if he takes the fall he'll walk away without slamming anybody because he's a real professional.
He could also get them to the playoffs, which would be quite an achievement.

This is the most important thing of that whole article. With 3 guys who love the ball like Derozan/Gay/Lowry starting alongside him, it's actually gonna take a commitment from them to give it to him in the post and play inside out. It would be to everyone's benefit, and hopefully an elementary coach like Casey can see that.
