Kings trying to move Marcus Thornton
Marcus Thornton was moved to a bench role for three games and then left on the bench entirely with two DNP-CDs in two nights this week.

Scott Howard-Cooper reported Wednesday that the Kings are being aggressive in trade discussions, looking to offload veterans for prospects and picks.

Thornton doesn't have an attractive contract, especially for someone who has played poorly enough to be eclipsed by Ben McLemore and Jimmer Fredette within the first 10 games of the season.
8mil this season 8.5mil next Maloofs :facepalm
Thornton has a skill -- scoring -- and not every team expects to have cap space in 2014 anyways. Those will be the teams that could justify Thornton.
Re: Kings trying to move Marcus Thornton
He would be great on the Bucks. Imagine a SG rotation of Mayo, Neal and Thornton?
Thornton for Butler and Henson. Hm. Maybe Butler, Henson, and a 1st.
-
Re: Kings trying to move Marcus Thornton
Can't outplay Jimmer Fredette?
What team wants a player like that?
Good luck with trade discussions Kings.
:wtf:
Maybe they should consider buying him out.
-
Re: Kings trying to move Marcus Thornton
At least they're planning on moving him. Time to clear out the glut and commit to seeing what type of team they have.
-
Re: Kings trying to move Marcus Thornton
whos the back up 2 on the bulls?
jimmy butler is out for a few weeks, so maybe they make some sort of deal.
-
Re: Kings trying to move Marcus Thornton
Spurs could use his scoring big time. Bulls too.
-
Re: Kings trying to move Marcus Thornton
Who is Marcus Thornton and why does he make $8 million a year?

Previous awful ownership group

Re: Kings trying to move Marcus Thornton
I'm expecting him to end up going to a team that's not a real competitor but wants a scorer to fill stadiums. Think he could upset the balance on a legit competing team personally.

Re: Kings trying to move Marcus Thornton
hawkfan Trade Scenario (where amazing happens forever)

Would prefer Aaron Gray over Novak a 3 year deal is to long

Novak is always a tradeable player since he can shoot.
But more importantly, beggars can't be choosers.
Not a big market for guys who can't outplay Jimmer Fredette and who make 8 million.

Raptors already have trouble finding Ross enough minutes. They don't want Thornton.
And how did this guy get 8m per? :confusedshrug:

Re: Kings trying to move Marcus Thornton
This summer, the Kings are going to need to land a real small forward, and the only way to do that is by overpaying big time.
Luol Deng - 4 years, $60 million.

Why do the Raptors have a problem getting minutes for Ross?
Just put him in the game. It won't make any difference to the outcome.

If that happens great.
If not, then the Kings have to deal with reality.

Re: Kings trying to move Marcus Thornton
Thornton has the skill. He scored like 23 his first game coming off the bench this season. Hell, he was scoring double digits every game he came off the bench I think, even 12 pts the last game he played. He can shoot when in rhythm, play passing lanes, is great in transition, etc. Jimmer just got the chance b/c he's a different type of player the Kings needed. Jimmer has the drive, energy, positivity, etc. This has nothing to do w/ Thornton's skill but his personality and attitude instead (which isn't toxic, it just doesn't fit Malone's style).
That being said, I say Kings just try to get a 2nd rnd pick for him. W/ the new rotation, the synergy and chemistry on the team is REAL nice. I'd say try to get a shot-blocker but N'Diaye looks to be able to fill that role w/ some more practice.
Btw, andremiller, didnt I say just wait for Prince Luc to get more PT? :pimp:

Re: Kings trying to move Marcus Thornton
thonrton, a future 1st, and filler for afllalo?
of course, that would mean that orlando sees oladipo as a PG long term, or they could use thornton as offense off the bench (which he doesnt seem to like)
jameer would eventually need to be moved too.

I can't see them giving Deng that if they pulled a smaller offer from Iggy, Deng's body is going to breakdown anyway from all the mins, imo if they miss out on the SF's than they should try draft a starting PG(Smart/Exaum) (Thomas is elite back up), find someone serviceable at SF (something like Martel Webster) and wait to draft another SF, no point in giving massive money to a older player we need someone either in there prime or young who will grow with #M16, Cousins and Thomas.

We learnt the hard way with JJ Hickson to never give away firsts

Re: Kings trying to move Marcus Thornton
Would like to see Deng traded for Thornton and fillers. Does Sacramento have any picks in next years draft? I'd take Thornton and a 1st rounder for Deng.

We owe a protected first to Cleveland after they raped us in the JJ Hickson deal and plus like I said before I don't think we can afford to trade away picks for player not young enough for our core group.

Fair enough.
I don't know what we are gonna do with Deng, IMO he needs to be moved. Get something back for him, before he walks.

Really?
Thornton for Butler, Henson and a First? I wouldn't trade him straight up for Henson.
