A great era specific talent...
Kobe Bryant.
It seems the game is too fast for him these days, and he can't dominate the way he used to, or even be close to efficient these days.
Kobe was a great player back when the league was at its weakest, but now that the game has moved on, can Kobe stick it out, or will we see him in a 7th or 8th man role off the bench?
I'm sure we all remember the glory days of when a 45% (league average) shooter was given the green light to shoot as much as he wants. A great era specific player was created, not so much naturally, but more forced. It was a fun time, but now that we have more efficient and dominant players, does Kobe have a role in this league? Maybe the victory cigar once the game is locked up? Maybe time to hang them up and teach the younger bench players their role?
What is your take on this great, era specific player, who's time seems to be running out? Can he change his game at the age of 35 and become a better player than hes ever been, which is what would be needed?

He's no Lebron James. I'll tell you that already.

A very good play from the previous era when he had the green light to shoot. He can't compete today though.
This is a homage thread to a player you just won't get to see today due to more efficient, and technically better players taking the majority of the shots. He sure was exciting though.

Is that OP? Pretty handsome dude. If you were tryna clown him by postin that, you failed
To OP: yes, I believe the game has passed Kobe. He played well in a weak era but chucking does not work in today's game. LeBron and Durant are headlining a new generation of superstars

6'3, 225lbs. I think I'd have an easier time than Kobe getting to the ring and putting up a more efficient shot these days.
You can find that picture in the post a pic of yourself thread.
I look good there.

Schooling who? He was the leader on the most overhyped team of all-time. 2013 Lakers were predicted to dominate the league and they flat out sucked.

Re: A great era specific talent...
I was very close to just labeling this a troll thread, but your second paragraph peaked my intrest. There was a point 7 years ago during the "be like mike\and 1 era", when hardcore ball fans were a lot more favorable towards isolation/ volume scorers. Today however, is not that day. Today the first two questions people ask when it comes to volume scorers are: Do you score efficiently? And do you make your teammates better?
Melo's scoring season last year, would have been idolized 7 years ago during that era, but today we just look at it, as one dimensional. It's the reason KD, who could be one of the most dominant scorers in Nba history, has spent so much time trying to improve his passing and defense. You think if Kd was playing in the culture during Ai's mvp year, he wouldn't be trying to be "that scorer"? The reality is expectations for wing scorers is at an all time high. It's not simply about being able to isolate and score anymore.
To connect this back to Kobe, I think people's perception of his approach to the game has changed over the years. I actually think the best way you can see this divide, is when you look at debates surrounding his Peak season. This more critical type of fan tends to attribute 08 as his peak season, because of his all around game. Whiles on the other hand "the be like mike generation fans" tend to view his 06 season as his peak"

Re: A great era specific talent...
Kobe dominated in a league where he was the only hyper athlete. I mean if you could dunk in the early-mid 2000s you were considered a legend. Lebron is shooting 60% against bigger, stronger, more athletic players. Kobe, the era specific great, obviously can't hang with these modern beasts.
I mean c'mon, look at the average size of defenders Kobe abused in his prime :facepalm
