Have you ever been on fire?
Like for a day & no one could literally stop you from making all those shots. It happened to me twice. Once during a full court game & I was about 9 years old at that time, second time was when I was 13 playing full court with the grown ups. It was like something just triggered inside me & lit up. I would still miss shots, but I would make them 90% of the time. But then again, both were only for a day, & it never came back after that. The first time, I only played 1 game and went home afterwards, the second time, I probably played like 3 or 4 full court games & just lit the place up. It felt so surreal.
Tmac was talking about THE shooters mentality in one of the segments of "Open Court" & I had flashbacks back to when I experienced it when he was talking about Lebron catching on fire back in the '13 Finals. I think he said - "Once you're on fire, there's not a thing that can stop you." Sort of something along those lines.
It was so surreal. Haven't thought about those moments for a while until Tmac talked about it. I wonder if it's going to happen to me again. I mean, I'm not as good as I used to be, but it would be great if I get to experience it again in a league game or a pickup game at least.
Pretty amazing for it to happen to a person like me. I don't know why it did, I guess my brain was just comfortable with the grip? Fascinating.

Re: Have you ever been on fire?
I had a summer league game in High School where I scored 53 points. It was just like that. Just seemingly couldn't miss even if I wanted to. I hit a three quarter court buzzer beater at the first quarter. Then a guy undercut me coming out at me on a three after a skip pass, and I wound up throwing it at the hoop with my head down and it banked in hard. After that it just felt like nothing would miss. I also got a shit ton of free throws though.
-
Re: Have you ever been on fire?
Earlier this summer
Big dude who looked like Terry Crews running his mouth all game. Wasn't very good but he was just so much bigger than they dude covering him so he got all the ****ing rebounds and shit. Miss a shot, rebound, miss a shot, rebound, then score, that type of guy. We lost the game.
Ran that shit back right fast. Game to 15.
I hit my first 3 top of the arc. Then another from the wing.
Whenever I hit two in a row, Im pulling up next play from 3 feet behind the line, IDGAF. I hit it. 3 in a row, nothing special for me to be honest. Score is 6 to something, I dont remember what they had but it was probably like 2. Im in the zone brahs. I rebound, Im not passing until I miss . From 5 feet behind the line... BANG. Score is 8-something. We get a stop and my boy scores a layup. 9-something.
They score, lets say 9-4. I bring the ball up, pull up and you guessed it...BANG! 11-4 and Im ****ing 5-5 from 3. Last few not no ****ing Mario Chalmers spot up 3's, these are straight Kobe/LeBron heat checks. Im feeling like a god.
Now the opposing team starts yelling at eachother to "play some ****ing D!". Dude guarding me is saying how Im pulling up from so far, that there's really nothing he can do.
Next play Im bringing the ball up and cross half court. I just sprint towards my right and hit a fading 3. Think of Kobe's gamewinner vs the Suns but from 3.
Im playing the best I've ever played in my life. BANG BANG. I seriously felt like LeBron ****ing James.
We got 13 points, they got something like 5 or 6. They miss a 3, I grab that ****ing rebound. Im in full out god mode and Im just thinking about pulling the biggest heat check of my life
I take a step inside half court and just pull up, why not Im ****ing 6-6 and scorching hot. Felt like I'm in some other world.
Well from one step inside half court, retarded ass shot, but BANGGGG. I hit it!
GAME. Terry Crews is real quiet. Now his teammates all start yelling at eachother. A couple of my boys was on they team, saying how "Tyler's a problem!" LMAO
Probably the best game of my life.

Re: Have you ever been on fire?
I scored 34 points in a basketball tournament last summer. I think I made 6 consecutive shots. ( 3 layups, 1 3 pointer, and 2 jump shots).
-
Re: Have you ever been on fire?
8 consecutive threes against some random scrubs we met at the gym. Next game we faced a team that were all 6'4'' and taller. Tallest guy on our team was 6'6''. Rest of us were 6'2'' and below. None of us played college ball but two dudes who were playing against us came from a former division 1 team and were 6'5''+. We lost like 11-2 and I got blocked 4 times lmao.

Re: Have you ever been on fire?
Yeah man it's a great feeling. Like everything you throw up goes in.
-
Re: Have you ever been on fire?
Happened to me a few times, such a great feeling. Like there is nothing else in your mind, you just want the ball cause you know you're going to make the shot.
Those 30 feet 3's and helpless look on defenders face, especially when his teammates start flaming him for not being able to defend me...
-
Re: Have you ever been on fire?
One of the best feelings in the world, man. I love it.
My shot is the best part of my game, those zones make you feel like you're on top of the world. In one game against my friend's team, he was talking all this trash and said I had no chance. He was guarding me, and I dropped 26 and hit 6 threes in his grill lol. We won too. Was awesome, had bragging rights for weeks.
Have also had many of those pickup games where people try dogging you, you know how it is. Trying to get in your head. Then you just go on a tear and light them up lol, making them shake their head and get mad and all that. I love that stuff, I know it's easy to roll your eyes at someone saying this on an internet forum but I legitimately play better under those circumstances. People often underestimate me because I'm short, but don't gimme that space and don't reach young blood.

Re: Have you ever been on fire?
Yes, i've ever been on fire a few times. made 7 shots in a row in game (Every ball was passed to me), before rimming out the 8th shot :lol
-
Re: Have you ever been on fire?
I've been on D fire where people don't even want the ball anymore. I never shot enough to really be on fire. I'd still push it and drive, do floaters, but I'd feel bad taking like 8 shots in a row.
Also, that time when the whole team gets on fire is cool, too, when you are just clicking. Back when I used to run at the University gym when I was a teenager, I had a couple of games like that where we beat teams we had no business beating because, for whatever reason, I just clicked with everyone.

Re: Have you ever been on fire?
It truly is a great feeling. It usually starts after a steal/fast break that gets me pumped.
-
Re: Have you ever been on fire?
I made two shots in a row once.
-
Re: Have you ever been on fire?
In a scrimmage with my team, I hit like 5 threes in a row :confusedshrug: Felt ****ing awesome.
-
Re: Have you ever been on fire?
Hit 8 back to back threes in a pickup game. Most were contested. This was when I was 18 and was getting back into daily basketball pickup games.
-
Re: Have you ever been on fire?
When I scored a career high 38 points back in 2005.
-
Re: Have you ever been on fire?
I wasn't on fire but I did hit back to back game winners in pickup once. That is I won two games in a row with the game winner

Re: Have you ever been on fire?
One time, and I got the scars to prove it. Third degree burns though...never got to my pretty face thank the gods.
-
Re: Have you ever been on fire?
Playing 21. I started off like shit with 0 points when everyone else had at least 12. I finally got the rebound and ran to the 3 point line to chuck one up and made it. After that, I hit every shot until reaching 21. After he 3 free shots, I would just shoot from that spot again. I even stepped back about 30 feet for the 21st point. It was epic.
-
Re: Have you ever been on fire?
I was 15 and legit pissed off at my boys making unfair teams, and my teammates claiming slaughter teams not even giving the team a chance for a 4 on 4. I caught fire when we were down by about 8 or 9 early. Made straight pull ups after pull up jumpers with cross overs. Not a single layup was taken. We won and I moved up our player rankings. Didnt take the #1 ranking until college
-
Re: Have you ever been on fire?
7 threes in one quarter, got 27 overal that quarter. first 3 threes were catch and shoot, then one of the pick and roll and last ones were pull ups in different defenders faces. great feeling, nothing quite like it.
-
Re: Have you ever been on fire?
I had a game like that a few years ago. I just kept pulling up and making it, the one that i vividly still remember was a kobe-esque fadeaway from the corner
-
Re: Have you ever been on fire?
Yeah, I've definitely felt that "in the zone" feeling where it's kind of an out of body experience. Shooting was always my strongest skill so it only took a couple shots to get me going on a good night. Luckily, I had a coach who really gave me a ton of leash because I actually shot a very good percentage from deep and he understood that it really got my confidence going.
There were games where I would heat check from Jimmer range (I'm talking 25+ sometimes) in HS and that would really get me going. I think the furthest I've ever shot it from was my first game back from a knee injury. I was running down the wing on the fastbreak, caught the ball in stride, and just step into a ridiculously deep 3. I honestly didn't even know where the 3 point line was when the ball came off my hand. After it went in I realized I was a good 30 feet out so I was really happy I made it or else I'd look pretty damn foolish.

I hope tomorrow. We'll have a game tomorrow.

Re: Have you ever been on fire?
I've found that as I'm getting older and slower I have to shoot better to separate myself. We play games to 21 by 2's and 3's and I've been hitting 3 or 4 a game. I had a game where I was 6 of 7 from the 3 point line a few weeks ago and have continued to shoot about 50 a day but it seems like I can't keep shooting well consistently :confusedshrug:
-
Re: Have you ever been on fire?
^It always helped me to picture the ball going in before shooting the ball, but, it has to be a quick mental picture though you can't spend 5 minutes thinking of it going. Ahaha. You have to feel the ball making that sound when it goes in, that crisp swish sound. It's a mental thing, if you can make it once, then there's ways to make it in 50 in a row.
I also suggest starting from corners & have a rack beside you. Corners or on top would be fine.
This is a practice, not a 2 hour process. Just like meditating. Stephen Curry knows best, I'm assuming this is what he does knowing how quick he pulls that shot, there's no way that he and Ray Allen have the same approach in shooting. Ray Allen tends go with a scientific, motion, rhythm, muscle memory approach as to where Curry tends to lean on touch, motion, rhythm & muscle memory.
Steph releases that ball like it's on fire, for a pro, that's ballsy.
Ray Allen shoots it like a gun in a sense, not that Steph doesn't aim, but, you know what I mean
Those are probably terrible analogies, but w/e. lol. I don't know why I went on and went on about that, but that's just to make it clear how I look at things. I've never made 50 straight though. lol wtf, that's Stephen Curry level. I've only made 20-25 straight in practice, by myself, with racks.

Re: Have you ever been on fire?
How'd it go?
The game was cancelled because it rained. We just practiced inside an indoor gym (Rent).
-
Re: Have you ever been on fire?
Before my balls dropped, and I shot from my hip, I dropped 22-23 random jumpshooting (obviously not in a game)
Won most free throw contests
Won most 3 point contests
Dropped like 10 out of 11 of the points against guys 5-6 years older in a league
in middle school.
Afterwards... let's just say Rondo could take me in a shootout:lol

Re: Have you ever been on fire?
Last summer I scored a season high 23 points.
-
Re: Have you ever been on fire?
I haven't played ball in a long ass time, a year, maybe? Been busy. But, damn, I didn't think I would perform as well as I thought. They didn't really play tough D, but when they did -- I bodied them down low. I thought I'd make stupid mistakes, but no, I dished out beautiful passes. I thought I'd look goofy, but no, my instincts kicked in.
It was one of those things where you'd pull off a certain move but your body doesn't react to it or doesn't want to do it (not ready for the move anymore/yet). I guess that's what they call ring rust in basketball. Holy shit, I never really felt that before until today. You try to pull off a certain move, but you just can't, it's like you forgot how to do it but you know you can do it. I'm not talking about a certain specific move to name, but, you know you did it before, it just hasn't kicked in, it felt awkward. Sorry for repeating it over and over again, I just had to express myself. Lol
I don't know if this is common, but I lost a step with my underhand layup, I didn't know when to takeoff. AHAHHAHA f*ck that was a mess.

Re: Have you ever been on fire?
Yes once I was playing 21 with my friends and I hit two consecutive shots. It was amazing.

Yeah, being a shooter and having dudes at my park call me Reggie because they will never remember my real name :facepalm
I have hit some amazing shots coming off screens with a dude draped all over me. But it still pisses me off that they call me Reggie, a man I hated all my youth because of his rivalry with the Knicks.

Word?
I strongly disliked him just because the combination of his alien female face, cockiness, unpleasant first name, skinny boniness, and elbowing on screens formed an abomination from a grotesque hell-like Hick state called Indiana.
That and being a Ray Allen stan.
The people at the courts ought to call you Stephen now.

Re: Have you ever been on fire?
ray allen is a bum. i've finally begun to admire his rigid mechanical flick but it ain't beautiful. klay thompson is the exact same.
gimme kobe for the contortion and flaring of his body any day. or so many others. gerald green has a nice jumper. dermarr derozen does if he's moving in just the right direction at just the right angle with just enough room. plus i like unconventional shots like pierce and zbo and steve nash. i used to have good imitations of antoine walker and allen iverson
hedo turkoglu :lol

lulz only reason I like him is cuz He Got Game and my alma mater bruh. same with Rip Hamilton the cardio bunny, and Rudy Gay.
now that we've evolved from silly tribal stuff let's give due credit to
JJ REDICK for the loveliness of his form
And Hedo has to be releasing from nearly 8.5 feet above the ground. Unreal. with even more arc. A block on him should be worth 3
