HOLY SHIT IT WORKED! I just invented time travel! I was sitting back in 2015 and now all of a sudden the 2016 draft has passed. I'm gonna be rich once I patent this shit.
Euroleague - try not being a total troll for once. change the thread to say "potential" number one pick or some shit. The guy isn't even projected to be number 1 on any mocks and you are already listing him as the number 1 pick? I mean he looks decent but still try not being such a ****ing idiot for once.

Re: 7'1" Georgios Papagiannis - 2016 NBA #1 Draft Pick
Does "Papa" mean "unathletic zero talent version of" in Greek? This old dude is nothing compared to the REAL Giannis. If his lumbering no talent having ass even made it to the NBA he'd be shipped the **** out in 31 games, tops.

At age 17, as a high school senior, he's 7'1", with a 7'6" wingspan, said to be still growing, and he was just tested with a 38" vertical, and you think he might not get drafted?

Taller than Giannis. Bigger wingspan than Giannis. Younger than Giannis. Same vertical as Giannis.

If he has a 38 inch vertical now, then Vince Carter had an 80 inch vertical in his prime.

Re: 7'1" Georgios Papagiannis - 2016 NBA #1 Draft Pick
LOL you think this guy's the next Sabonis?
I've seen this guy play and he's slow, stiff and unathletic. GTFO with that #1 draft pick BS.
-
Re: 7'1" Georgios Papagiannis - 2016 NBA #1 Draft Pick
And in case he starts playing well, we all know Euroleague is gonna disown him and start bashing him, he is not a stable person.

Not gonna lie, he has a Sabonis vibe to him.
Could be a real force.
Look at Marc gasol at the same age, fat piece of shit. This kid looks good, once he leaves Greece adn getst some proper training, sky is the limit.

Late 2nd rounder, out of the league in 2 years.
Book it.

this is why the best scouts many times get it totally wrong.
scouting is nowhere near being an exact science.
so yeah, this kid could be number 1, if he makes a transformation like Marc did when he moved from Memphis to Spain, but how often does that happen anyway?

Re: 7'1" Georgios Papagiannis - 2016 NBA #1 Draft Pick
If Kanter was a top 5 pick, I don't see why this guy shouldn't be.
-
Re: 7'1" Georgios Papagiannis - 2016 NBA #1 Draft Pick
He will be in the 12-22 range stash pick. Then in three years will come into the league and be either mediocre or a rotation player. That's how it works, right?
-
Re: 7'1" Georgios Papagiannis - 2016 NBA #1 Draft Pick
Also, how is the stadium emptier than a WNBA game? Almost no one watching the best players in the world...damn.
-
Re: 7'1" Georgios Papagiannis - 2016 NBA #1 Draft Pick
This guys looks really good. I don't get why people are hating on him. I watched more videos on him and I can see he can definitely be a solid NBA player, or even better depending on how he adjusts to the NBA game.
He has long arms, and if he were to join the NBA, perhaps the longest in the league followed by Giannis. That is a HUGE factor, as it could tremendously make his post game unguardable if he can develop a good post game.
He can run the floor and is mobile. Most bigs cannot actually run the floor, and those that can are actually 4s that play the 5.
I might get bashed for this, but he reminds me of a raw Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
It all depends though how well he develops. He needs to come to the NBA and not start overseas. But I can tell he is more interested in the NBA anyways.
I know he is only 17, but he needs to get in NBA shape starting now if he plans to do anything in the NBA.

Kanter was of no threat to stay overseas. This guy is. That alone will drop his stock in a 2016 draft class that has some nice talent.

Giannis was about the 10th best player on a team in the THIRD division in Greece when he was 17.
He also tried out for Olympiacos' roster (a first division team in Greece) when he was 18 and failed to make the team.
So yes, Papagiannis is a FAR BETTER and MORE ADVANCED player at the same age.
By leaps and bounds.

He's not "staying overseas". He's on a contract that maintains his amateur status, even with playing for a Euroleague team.
He's in talks right now with about 15 different NCAA schools. He's 50/50 going to play a year in the NCAA, then go to the NBA, or stay one year in Greece, and then go to the NBA.
His contract with Panathinaikos even stipulates an option for immediate release with no real buyout restrictions upon being drafted, and they said the only way he was staying there was if he was not drafted.
So you are just making up bullshit - as usual.

Re: 7'1" Georgios Papagiannis - 2016 NBA #1 Draft Pick
No way. This guy transferred to a U.S high school for a reason. He wants to play in the NBA.
Yes, that's right. The reason he decided not to stay in the US for his senior year of high school basketball was because the competition was so much lower than he had been getting being able to train in the Greek League the previous two years.
So his father decided to have him go back to the Greek League, especially since he got to sign with an actual Euroleague team (highest level in Europe) and he could then get much higher training, coaching, and play against much better players than in high school in USA for a year.
His father felt his game actually regressed last year in the USA playing against high school players, instead of professional players.
And so then he would be better prepared to play in NCAA next season, than if he stayed in high school. Their main plan has always seemed to be that they want him to play in NCAA for a year. And from what I know a lot of schools are going after him very hard.

Re: 7'1" Georgios Papagiannis - 2016 NBA #1 Draft Pick
Papagiannis is the most amazing physical specimen of a prospect that I've seen since rookie NBA Shaq.

Re: 7'1" Georgios Papagiannis - 2016 NBA #1 Draft Pick
7'1 with a 38' vert would mean he gets his head 3 inches over the rim. None of the clips show anything remotely close to even mid 20's capabilities, so even if he has that massive vert, what good is it that he can barely apply a fraction of it in actual games?
-
Re: 7'1" Georgios Papagiannis - 2016 NBA #1 Draft Pick
Watching Papagiannis play in the first game of FIBA World Under-19 Championship, he looked about 1, maybe even 2 inches taller than his teammate Georgios Tsalmpouris.
Tsalmpouris plays at Iowa State, and he's listed at 7-1 by them, and he was supposedly measured at 7-1 1/2 in shoes.
Papagiannis looks like he's at least 7-2, and maybe even 7-3 now.

That's funny, because he had so many lob dunk type slams in the first game of FIBA Under-19 World Championship that I lost count.
Not a single player on Team USA can get even close to as high as he can.
He was dunking absolutely everything that even came near his vicinity.
