Ugh, so far away.
Ugh, so close.
I don't think I've ever been so hyped for a video game. This seriously has GOAT potential. Who knows who'll win GOTY with Witcher, Fallout, Bloodborne and this, but I think in the long run, this will be the best game of them all.
I still haven't pre-ordered though. Might do it today.
Have it preordered on amazon. Gonna get home from work Tuesday night and play the shit out of it. Got Wednesday off :pimp:
Sucks for me. I have three months off, and it ends next Friday. Back to school.
Hopefully I don't have much homework the first couple weeks. I also will have a week left on my gym membership, so I don't know how much time I'll get playing this.
What a shitty release date, to be quite honest.

Better at beginning of school than during exams/finals
To be honest, I'm not as excited.
I've seen some gameplay and it just feels too slow.
GTA V seemed way better and far more hyped up and it didn't exactly live up to expectations. I'd be shocked if this game is better than Witcher 3.
Witcher 3 to me is the best current gen video game to date.
Uncharted 4 will blow every game known to men out of the water.
Reviews are already coming in. Embargo lifting this early must be a good sign.

97/100
I see they called it the Game of the Year, and also said it's the best stealth game of all time. "There is no argument; MGS:V The Phantom Pain is the game of year and most likely game of the generation. For the last time, Hideo Kojima has managed to pull it off AGAIN. He is the man that sold the world."
Here are their Pros/Cons:
Pros:

Complete freedom, hundreds of possibilities and options. Almost infinite.

Graphics and sound are sublime. Never have experienced anything like it.
Cons:

Story doesn't have the same thrill as the other entries, and does not close the story in a satisfactory manner.

Poor Spanish translation.
They said they completed the main story in 40 hours and have only 50% completion.
Maybe there's another Peace Walker type ending...?
To compare, the same site ranked Witcher 3 at 95/100, and its highest rated game ever is Smash Bros. Wii U at 97/100 (which is now tied with this game).
If Metal Gear Online is decent at all, I can see myself playing this for a LONG time.
Story doesn't have the same thrill as the other entries, and does not close the story in a satisfactory manner.
How the **** can you give a game a 97 if the story isn't absolutely perfect.
Sounds like another GTA IV and GTA V title.
Overrated as shit.
The fact that both of those games are rated above San Andreas. :facepalm
I'll probably buy this game later in September though.
I do enjoy Metal Gear but I'm not its biggest fan.
An average MGS game has a better story than 99% of video games.
San Andreas is literally the definition of overrated lmao.

San Andreas was rich with content and a great story.
What the **** are you smoking.
You think GTA 4 was better or GTA V?
What the hell was the point of GTA V story anyways?
It was fun but just seemed way too short for the ambitious approach they were aiming to take. In the end, it was all about 3 random dudes coming together to make money? There was literally no climax to the game.
Did any of the previous MGS games receive a 97 from that website though?
Story is extremely important, especially for a game like Metal Gear.
MGS V seems to be very rich with content. Also, I'd take any MGS story over any GTA story. Out of the GTAs, Vice City is better than San Andreas, but MGS is better than them all in the story department.
Nobody's saying the story is bad in this game, it's just this one reviewer saying it doesn't have the best story out of MGS like some overhyped it to have. Also, he said it doesn't feel like a proper conclusion to the MGS series, but it was never intended to be the conclusion. Kojima has been wanting to hand off MGS to another director/writer and stay in a producer role for a long time now. Now that he's left Konami altogether, they're going to just hand the series over to any old director and keep making MGS games until people stop buying them. It may end with Kojima to us, but there's going to be an MGS 6, a shitty MGS arcade mobile game, MGS remasters, MGS 7, and so on. That series is all Konami has left.

I'm definitely getting this game, but I don't want to get all hyped up about it like I did for GTA V. There's no doubt that MGS has way better story than any GTA; only Uncharted 2 and TLOU and a few others like Zelda are on that level of greatness.
I do like Vice City's better than any of the GTA as well; although San Andreas is easily my favorite game because of its content.
I don't usually like stealth type games but I've played most of the MGS mostly because of its epic characters and story.
I doubt I'll get this before mid-September as I'll be busy with Madden 2016.
Gameplay
85? It was 17/20. You can't go multiplying it to add up to 100! Doesn't work like that.
I saw that yesterday, but the reviewer is from a notoriously unreliable French website (they gave Watch_Dogs 18/20), and said he's never played an MGS game before in his life. As well, he probably didn't even listen to the tapes, which is why he would have been confused by the story.
Also saw this on Reddit:
A quick FYI, In France you can't even really rely on JeuxVideo.com (biggest VG media in France) which could be considered as an IGN. It's been discussed that they may have been offered compensations in exchange of high scores. And their journalists aren't fully impartial, some really take sides and that is not the way to do journalism.
The Spanish source seems to be more reliable from looking at all of its other scores.
Well the reviews will start coming on August 24th, that's when the embargo is lifted.
Lupe Fiasco got the game early :oldlol:

:D
Sick.
Hope it's a great game, I'm intrigued by this.
But ambitious projects were rather disappointing as of late (Watch Dogs & GTA V).
Yeah, I didn't really enjoy GTA V as much as I wanted to. The story was bland and not very interesting compared to GTA IV, San Andreas and Vice City, and GTA Online didn't really appeal to me. I just found it to be repetitive and boring.
I think I might do a playthrough of the series soon.
Watch_Dogs was made by Ubisoft, so that was understandable. Fvck Ubisoft.
I think Kojima, as a video game maker, is on another level to everyone else. I can't really see any projects of his flopping.
Silent Hills :(

So much for that. Two people just got fired, so I probably have to work that day :facepalm
It's funny how two people lose their jobs and the first thing that came to my mind was how it affects my MGS V experience :oldlol:

Ah, that sucks. I'd be pissed too.
Reviews are coming in. 9's and 10's everywhere.

I just saw that. This is looking like a must get for me. I enjoyed MGS4.

I knew this game had GOAT potential from the moment I saw it at E3 2013.

[I]The gameplay, storytelling, and protagonists in Metal Gear may shift with each new installment, but Kojima
Fvcking HYPE.
I don't think we'll see another game with this much dedication and heart put into it, until maybe the next GTA. These don't come around very often any more.
Kojima :applause:

IGN & GameSpot gave it 100%.
GameTrailers gave it 93%.
These 3 websites don't just hand out perfect scores; that's very impressive.
This game might actually beat out The Witcher 3 it seems.
the gamespot review is a really great read.
Every fan of Metal Gear has their favorite game in the series. For some, it's the unique gameplay quirks, memorable set pieces, or specific plot points that dictate their adoration for one game over another. When defining the best Metal Gear game, things get trickier, but with The Phantom Pain, that problem is finally resolved. There has never been a game in the series with such depth to its gameplay, or so much volume in content. The best elements from the past games are here, and the new open-world gameplay adds more to love on top. When it comes to storytelling, there has never been a Metal Gear game that's so consistent in tone, daring in subject matter, and so captivating in presentation. The Phantom Pain may be a contender for one of the best action games ever made, but is undoubtedly the best Metal Gear game there is.
hype!
I can't think of a single game off the top of my head that received a perfect score from both GameSpot and IGN; besides maybe GTA V.
Last of Us got 80% from GameSpot.
That's pretty bad ass; but I am still not sure if it's my type of game.
I think I'll get too bored from the slow paced gameplay.
I don't get how anyone could be bored from a game like this. 10/10 is 10/10.
I drifted away from this series over the last half decade or so. I was infatuated with the old " ! " over the head era of these games. I loved the stealth elements. But the story wasn't something that ever really interested me, and as the series traced the story to increasingly weird places, and spent so much of the games giving exposition into that story, the less I became interested, and the next thing you knew I was out.
But this was intriguing to me from the get go. I enjoy open world. And I enjoy stealth, although usually a light stealth, and third person duck and cover shooting and adventure. Those are my favorite types of games. And this sounds like it has a bit of everything.
I read GameInformer's review this morning. They were pumped, and came in at 9.25. This could be a rare buy for me that's not a preorder. Just based on the strength of the reviews and the description of the game play. The last game I think I bought like that was Mordor, and I never got into it. But before that it was Arkham Asylum, and I went on to love that series. So who knows.
There's that demo/preview whatever that came out last year. If you like that, then this should be crack cocaine for you and must by because it's going to crap all over that.
Just a heads up, there's a "secret" ending in this game that you have to earn. That's kind of bullshit imo, but apparently it's a really amazing ending.
I've never been into these games but I'm intriqued since you people seem to love it so. Please post as much as you can, would love to hear your thoughts as you're actually playing.
The launch trailer is out!

We're on the home run, folks.
EDIT: From what I've heard, there's a spoiler around the 2:50 mark. I won't be watching because of that, as well because I have yet to play Ground Zeroes.

Read about 6 reviews now; I think I will be getting it bro.
Super excited; the freedom the game allows you is too much to pass up for me.
Watched a friend play for about a half hour today and I'm not going to lie (you heard me say earlier in the thread I'm not a fan of the series), it looked great. Very fluid, so much you can do. Almost too much to do, weren't really sure what to do. But it looked fun as hell.

And yeah, I'll definitely be posting my thoughts in here. Hopefully we get enough people to keep the thread active.

I don't know actually, i'm not aware when the game comes out so it didn't occur to me that it was strange he had it. I'll ask and let you know. Probably in the Bronx. I know when GTA came out he drove out there to get it a few days early. Stores in manhattan (mom and pop) and Brooklyn put shit out a day early at the most.
I was thinking cool, i'll go pick this shit up at Best Buy tomorrow. :facepalm
