The Future Of The Nba After TV Mega Deal Has Expired Looks Real Real Bad
People don't realize how the events that have happened over the past 30 years to get the association to where it is today and the money it will get with mega deal.
10 years from now, when mega deal is up, who is going to be the one, ones that make the league grow?
The past 30 years we had perfect events to make it grow exponentially every 10 years. Before magic and bird, the league wasn't doing that well, struggling.
We had polarizing players, players that were god like and even non hardcore fans knew who they were. And rivalries. Besides goat players, nothing brings in fans like that.
The players had a one in a lifetime feel to them. You were never gonna see a 6'9" point guard like magic ever. A white guy dominating a now black dominated sport. A true goat with the flair and funk on and off the court with his shoes and marketing. The most dominant big man ever. The two "next mj's".
They all hit it on the head and kept driving ratings and growth every year.
80's
Magic and bird came into the league at same time.
To historic rivals.
Rivalry of lakers vs celtics alone added to nationwide excitement. Everyone watched. Even regular season games. Bird and magic lived up to their hype, becoming top 10 all time players and renewed one of the best rivalries in all of sports.
Ratings thru the roof.
90's
Mj. Single handledly took the game to another level. His on the court funk, never seen before. Unmatched winning. Unmatched marketing. Took the league to another planet.
00's
Shaq and the two "next mj's"
Shaq came in with so much hype and lived up to it. Killed it. Dominated. Did things never before seen. Great personality. Good for marketing.
Kobe and bron. Came into the league out of high school. Soooooo much hype. Exceeded the hype. Won rangs. Kept driving ratings thru the roof.
So, in 10 years, when the TV mega deal is up, who and what is going to keep the league GROWING ?
With free agency and collusion , rivalries are out the window.
What players are POLARIZING and grab the attention of the non serious fan?
Anthony Davis in the next 5-10 years will be the best player in league. But he is dry as saltines. The first thing people say about him after his basketball skills is that he has one eyebrow.
Steph curry?
10 years from now, bron will be retired. Duncan done. Kobe will be hanging on playing 6 minutes a game for the raptors. (Haha)
Over the next 10 years , star players will be demanding easily 20-30 million a year. Starters 10/15 a year because of all the TV revenue.
Who is going to ELEVATE the game like the past 30 years? Above and beyond so that TV companies would want to drop even more billions after this deal is done.
I forecast some bad bad things when these huge huge contracts are still in place when this new deal ends and teams won't get that TV money to cover them.
Unless who, Joel Embid , Karl Anthony towns and the likes turn into personalities the public will like Along with record setting performances to drive even higher ratings?
Watch.

Davis is really talented and durant is more talented than prime kobe.
Only health can stop durant from being at least top 15 all time if not higher.

Except no  Durant is great, but what makes him more talented than Prime Kobe?
Prime Lebron maybe. But not Prime Kobe. Good try tho.
A Cavs Vs Okc finals matchup would be goat tho, like multiple finals matchups each trading victories and such.

Re: The Future Of The Nba After TV Mega Deal Has Expired Looks Real Real Bad
League will be fine. NFL has more to worry about with concussions and such. Will people even care about the MLB in 10 years? The NBA is growing and will continue to attract the greatest athletes on the planet. Nothing to fear. :D

Lol eh, not really. Bron has benefited from playing in the weak east which inflates his stats. I'd give Durant's mvp season over Prime Kobe tho.
Lebron ain't up there with them Gods tho.
Under 30% from outside the paint lmao
It goes
Jordan
Kobe
Durant(has a good chance to over take Kobe with 4-5 rings)
Lebron(playing in the weak east, teaming up with a former Fmvp winner and 3rd greatest sg of all time, along with a 20 & 10 big man to get rings)
Lebron and Durant have had better seasons than prime Kobe.
It's not about having better seasons than whoever.
It's about marketability.
And living up to the hype that THE AVERAGE fan has ALREADY heard.
I did a poll the other day. Asked random sports fans this.
What sport does lebron James play for?
Everyone got that right.
What sport does Peyton manning play?
Everyone got that right.
What sport does steph curry play?
NO ONE got that right.
The reigning mvp, and just won finals. And of the 5 people I asked. NO ONE got it right.
That's what I mean.
That's what drives ratings, which therefore makes TV companies want to pay big money which allows players to get record contracts.
The league has to GROW like never before to make that money back.
Who gonna do it?
Who's gonna be the one, ones that make the average sports fan watch? Because they are the ones that ultimately determine how much money the league gets, the owners get and the players get. And if the TV companies and teams can't make profit, everyone is screwed.

guys like durant are marketable and i see davis and curry also will become household names

It's pretty simple OP. The league will build a New Star. Wiggins, Parker, Russel, Embiid, Davis, etc someone will be thrust-ed into super stardom.

OP stfu. There is already a bigger stronger Lebron coming into the L next year. Ben Simmons from LSU. Also I am pretty sure Wiggins can become the next FroBe. He has a strong work ethic and has an exciting team built around him
DeAngelo only needs to become a Top 16 PG and he will get amazing hype built around him
Jabari Parker has a great defensive team built next to him
76ers have great bigs
Trust me the future is bright

Yea I know.
But enough to be household names and stories behind it like bird and magic , Jordan, Shaq Kobe and bron?
And as a business, the league has to GROW just to maintain those numbers. And grow exponentially to get more after this deal.
I just don't see it in PROPORTIONED to how much money TV companies, teams have to make to cover what they are going to pay players the next 10 years.

It's not on decline.
It has to grow though to cover all the money.
Period.
We got lucky the past 30 years.
Sure fire players/teams that made NBA grow exponentially.
Always someone to pass the torch.
Bird and magic to Jordan. Jordan to Kobe Shaq and bron.
For the AMOUNT OF MONEY advertisers, TV companies and teams WILL HAVE TO MAKE to cover all the HUUUGGGEEEE contracts coming, to be PROFITABLE, the ratings have to be TRIPLE the best ever.
:facepalm
In 10 years what Kobe, bron, bird magic Shaq will carry the league to NEW HEIGHTS.
ALL OF THOSE PLAYERS WERE HOUSEHOLD NAMES BEFORE THEY PLAYED A GAME IN THE NBA.
Maybe not Jordan, but he became goat.
The amount of money the league has to make to grow depends on triple TV ratings.
Just wait. It's gonna get bad.
-
Re: The Future Of The Nba After TV Mega Deal Has Expired Looks Real Real Bad
the game will be fine and better.
Honestly, the NBA completely dominates the future which is social media which is very important and something that has given the game an even broader fanbase and an edge towards other sports.
also like it or not but the lebron free agency of 2010 brought a lot hype to the league. after that summer everybody started talking bball.

Because I don't poll five of my friends and use the results as a basis of predicting what will happen to/in a league as complex as the NBA in ten years...
You could be right (I doubt it) but you could very well be right.
However, your premise rest on the reasoning skills of a hamster.

And beyond that, how could you possibly say that Durant/Westbrook do not form the greatest duo in NBA history? Or that Leonard/Aldridge do not go on to win multiple championships? Or that Harden/Dwight do not go on to battle Curry/Thompson for years to come generating publicity and the next great NBA rivalry?
How do you know that Blake Griffin and Anthony Davis don't battle for the next 7 years over NBA MVPs? Or that Atlanta and the Heat and the Cavs and the Celtics and the Bulls bring about exciting and competitive Eastern conference playoff basketball?
Since we are predicting ten years down the line, how do we know that Philly, NYC, and LAL won't draft franchise players and compete in trans-national Finals?

Magic and bird played in a SUPER HYPED national championship game.
Shaq was everywhere. On Roy Firestone show. National televised games at lsu. To see this freak of nature.
Kobe and bron were super super super hyped high school players boaf gonna be the next Jordan.
Everyone knew who they were before they played a game.
Jordan hit game winning shot in championship game.

Aight. I guess yall are just missing it completely.
You need MORE THAN JUST GOOD BASKETBALL to get where the NBA has gotten.
You need polarizing, marketable, once a generation type players.
And THREE TIMES MORE TO COVER WHAT EVERYONE IS SPENDING TO JUST GET THEIR MONEY BACK.
yea. It'd be just fine if this record TV deal , three times the previous one wasn't in place.
It has to make A LOT OF MONEY. A LOT AND LOT OF MONEY.
Smh.

I see the point you're trying to make and you could be correct (I don't think you will be) but you could be, but if you haven't noticed every generation has had a player or two that completely captures the NBA and to less of a extent the world by storm. History repeats itself and the NBA is no different
some player wether its Durant, Davis, Curry, Griffin, Harden or some kid sitting on a college roster now (Just a hypothetical btw) comes into the game and garners the attention and media alot of greats from the past generations did. Someone is going to stake their claim for best of this generation and arguably into the top 10 of all time lists. Even if talent is at a all time low someone is going to be considered head and shoulders above the rest of the best of that generation. So don't worry the NBA will be fine as long as the NBA hell even basketball in general can keep pulling young people to play the game and practice their craft the naturally talented or gifted in the game will find a way to show how good they really are. Full disclaimer its the 4th I'm pretty drunk and this is a little long winded feel free to argue what you dont agree with.

Re: The Future Of The Nba After TV Mega Deal Has Expired Looks Real Real Bad
Stop it :oldlol:
Maybe your old ass wont be watching it anymore, but the next generation will be. And the one after that. And the one after that....and after that.
And you asked who will carry the league? Dude, there are new players being brought up every single day, are you kidding me? This is sports, there is a never ending wave of talent hitting the league every year. Who tf was Anthony Davis 10 years ago? Who was D'angelo Russell just 4 years ago, did anyone even hear any hype about him coming out of highschool? There will always be a successor, don't you worry, hunny.
This isn't any ordinary business, atm it is fail proof. The league won't be dying down anytime soon, it will just continue to grow. Before, it was much harder for people around the world to watch the league, but now that the whole ****ing world is connected via technology and internet, the audience is bigger than EVER before and will continue to keep growing.
For instance, my father who grew up and lived for 30 years in Bosnia used to tell me how they would rarely ever get NBA games on tv and he would only be able to watch highlights, it wasn't until he came to America that he was able to fully start following the league. Now? Most sports channels show the main games, and if you have international league pass, you can watch it all.
Baseball - mostly American audience
Football - American audience, no one else really watched football
Basketball - global audience, on another level. Best league in the world BY FAR is the American league
Dumb OP, you didn't really think this one through.

Arghhhh.
Looking at it through the eyes of this current money.
To make it financially, the NBA NEEDS another generation of bird magic Shaq Kobe bron type players. Players that were POLARIZING on and OFF the court.
Hyped up from BEFORE day one. A running start into the league.

Dumbest poast of the year.
The players make the league.
Did you miss he op?
Do you not realize before magic and bird the NBA wasn't shit? In a slump. Struggling financially.
Bird and magic , PLAYERS took it to another level In The 80's. The whole bird vs magic "choose your weapon" MARKETING campaign stormed the country.
Jordan , A PLAYER took to even greater heights. Marketing unmatched. Wtf are you even typing about?
Shaq bron Kobe continued to ad and grow the league.
Are people rocking Spurs jerseys or bron and Kobe jerseys historically?
GTFO fucc tard.
Magic and bird in the 80's. Jordan in the 90's. Shaq Kobe and bron in 00's made the league what it is today.
If you don't think that, you're a complete idiot.

Wut.
Obviously, it is hard to see who will end up becoming a mega star and why. We can't see the future.
You could have said the same in 1998 when MJ left. You didn't know back then that people like Iverson would become so popular and become a hero for the inner city kids...and that Kobe would get so good...and that Vince Carter would come and become the best dunker ever and gain sucha huge following, and that in 2002 ESPN would start nationally televising high school games of some kid named L. Kobe
Durant(has a good chance to over take Kobe with 4-5 rings)
Lebron(playing in the weak east, teaming up with a former Fmvp winner and 3rd greatest sg of all time, along with a 20 & 10 big man to get rings)
how can lebron's stats be benefitted from playing in the east?
Other than 2014-15, East has had better defensive teams throughout lebron's career.
