I expect some movement this year
At Thursday
The Jazz hold a team option on Mack for next season, which they are expected to pick up, especially since Mack played well — for the most part — in a Jazz uniform. General manager Dennis Lindsey and coach Quin Snyder both said they were happy with Mack, and what he provided during his first two months in Utah.

Well this is gonna suck. Jazz better get themselves together for next year, no more excuses, things are going to get pricey. As for Exum, good that he's finally sprinting, I honestly don't think he should do anything this summer other than get ready; no summer league, no olympics, nothing
^
Well that sucked. Anyways…

This article just shows how Lyles is going to make Booker kind of obsolete, but I'm kind of shifting to your idea of him replacing even Favors. He spaces the floor more, he's younger, undoubtedly hungry, and in the last few games of the year the commentators were all noting how Favors seemed kind of disinterested. Granted he was injured, but that is an interesting note to make.
I certainly don't think it makes Booker obsolete. He'd be a great guy to have at the end of the bench when you need some energy.
Agreed, the article was just hinting to that a bit. I love Booker though, he's just one of those guys that any team can use and only helps out
He did make Withey obsolete for unknown reasons.
I thought we had a new poster. Just saw they deleted your account. Prefer the Gobert Report though.

sounds like the tanking is over and they are ready to try to win as much as possible. Don't think they have any choice with Hayward's opt out and now Mack too.
The Jazz hope their inconsistent point guard play will be improved with the reintegration of Exum into the lineup, with Mack and Neto likely providing backup minutes.
I can't see Mack being benched unless someone beats him out and Exum as a rookie wasn't better than Mack was after they got him.
Snyder related an experience from this past season when directly asked that this past week. He credited assistant Igor Kokoskov for making a suggestion with about 18 games remaining that the Jazz should up its focus from a rebuild-centric progress mode to shoot-for-the-playoffs win mode.

I certainly hope so, can't take much more of these BS seasons. What I want to see is if Hayward is a part of their longterm plans or not. He's going to get paid, we'll just see if it's the Jazz doing the paying or not.
The Jazz hope their inconsistent point guard play will be improved with the reintegration of Exum into the lineup, with Mack and Neto likely providing backup minutes.
Like the other quote said where Exum could play 1-3, that seems ideal with Exum back in case Burks gets injured or if he actually proves to be a better option than Mack and/or Neto
http://www.deseretnews.com/article/865652434/Upstill-Breaking-down-the-Utah-Jazz-offseason-checklist.html
the Jazz need to extend the contract of head coach Quin Snyder. Snyder will be entering the last season of his contract, and the job he has done certainly warrants a long extension. There is absolutely no reason to let things play out next season where Snyder could be pried away by another team when his contract is up. Lindsey wanted to build a culture centered on player development, and Snyder is the key piece in this. Players from Gordon Hayward to Derrick Favors have grown leaps and bounds since Snyder
The Jazz can also begin negotiating Rudy Gobert
Adding a player to be their fourth wing either through a trade, draft or free agency is something the Jazz will need to consider. Getting a veteran and a tough nose defender would be ideal, but how many quality wings will want to sign up to play the role of the fourth wing off the bench?
If Ingles could play like he did at the end of the past two seasons all year he could be the guy but ideally Exum will be taking those minutes. I see the rotation right now as Gobert, Favors, Hayward, Hood, Burks, Mack, Neto, Lyles and Exum. The rest of team could change.
If Booker comes back, he is most likely the fourth big and sometimes fifth, depending if the Jazz add another big or if the Jazz keep Withey, whose rim protection is key to have on court when Favors and Gobert are on the bench. Booker might not want this role and could choose to leave himself.
Withey was so key he didn't play. I think ideally Booker is a 5th or 6th big on a good team. He didn't complain when Gobert emerged and he wasn't playing before Enes was traded so I'm hoping a front loaded contract where they severely over pay him next year will keep him around. Any free agent they go after I would think they would want to front load it.
They could always opt to sign another center instead, but with Favors

I think they'll pay Hayward. The question is will he take less money to go elsewhere? That's why they have to play to win this year.
I see Exum as another playmaking wing with his size. Hopefully he'll be able to run the offense eventually like Mack did but right now if he can defend and hit an open shot it would be huge.
There are some question marks about Gobert's game. The center missed 18 games with a knee injury this season and his offensive game is anything but refined at this point. More troubling, however, might be the number of times Gobert was off the court as Snyder matched up against another team's small lineups. Nevertheless, Gobert is among the league's best rim protectors and a key piece of Utah's seventh-ranked defense.
He can guard anyone so that's on Snyder.

Funny that the big argument for replacing Millsap with Favors was D. :facepalm
http://saltcityhoops.com/2015-16-jazz-swot-analysis/
I knew Withey had to be better than Favors. Rudy-lite. Don't understand him not being the first or second big off the bench.
Projection: Improvement if Withey receives more minutes, especially if that allows Favors to play more exclusively at power forward
I can't see next year being any different.

Surprised Hood isn't better. He needs to play in there more when his 3 isn't falling.

Npt sure how you can expect it to be better. Trey at least went to the rim. Exum rarely did.
4) Improve the bench via free agency, especially by targeting a defensive specialist at the wing.
They already have that in Exum assuming he's able to rebound from his injury and Johnson.
Bobby Marks: Memphis now joins the 14 non playoff teams eligible to make trades. Only players under contract in 16-17 w/o a player option are eligible.

Wait what? The article didn't talk about that, but I get what you're saying. I didn't really pay attention to Millsap's D back in the day, all I remember is people saying he was too small for the 4 and not fast enough for the 3.
Improve the bench via free agency, especially by targeting a defensive specialist at the wing.
I honestly think the bench is fine. This team just under-achieved and got hurt throughout the year. Helping the bench couldn't hurt obviously, but Snyder just needs to play Withey more and guys need to play up to their competition.

Going to have to replace Withey with someone they like. I like the bench too but you can always get better. They'll be replacing Burke and Withey or Pleiss probably both I'd think and I imagine Booker. There is a rotation spot open.
3-5 in games decided by 3 points or less and 5-5 in OT games. Inability to close out close games seems to be one of the other things that stopped them from making the playoffs.
Memphis were 6-2 in <3 games, Dallas were 5-4 in<3 and 8-4 in OT, Clippers were also 6-2 in <3 and 5-1 in OT and Rockets 4-2 in OT. Only oddity is the Blazers who were 0-6 in <3 games.

The main reason I think they would have been in at least 5th place if Withey was playing. Lyles minutes hurt them early in the year especially.

Utah Jazz: Six more prospects will be in town for pre-draft workouts tomorrow: Ryan Anderson, Trey Freeman, Jaron Blossomgame, Thomas Walkup, Matt Costello, Andrew White. #JazzDraft

Another group will take the Zions Bank Basketball Center court on Thursday. Those hopefuls include Arizona forward Ryan Anderson, Clemson forward Jaron Blossomgame, Michigan State forward Matt Costello, Old Dominion guard Trey Freeman, Stephen F. Apparently the Jazz are trying to turn Quin Snyder into their new Jerry Sloan. I personally am a huge fan of Quin, and am stoked to see what he does in the future. I expect a top-4 seed next year though, only the Warriors and Spurs are practically guaranteed HCA, the Clips and Thunder have a future full of uncertainty
Anything not in the top 4 would be disappointing but this will be the craziest off-season ever with all the money everyone has so who knows. Minnesota will be making a big leap I'm sure as well despite how young they are.
Burks is a major concern, however, as he has now missed significant time in four of five NBA seasons.
2 seasons because of injuries
The obvious glaring hole is at the starting PG position. Mack did a nice job after coming over at the trade deadline, but he’s more of a backup/spot starter than a true frontline player.
I'd say both guard positions are open. Hood doesn't look like a starter anymore than Burks does. I see them adding a rotation player possibly a starting guard.
If Utah is giving the starting role to Exum instead of a veteran, and they want to upgrade the backup role from Mack, Jeremy Lin, Jerryd Bayless or D.J. Augustin could be options.
Doubt they'd add any of them with Mack, Neto and Exum. Conley i could see but it doesn't sound like he's leaving Memphis.
Should Utah want to shift Hood to a sixth man role and add depth, they could be a destination for Harrison Barnes. Barnes would fit in very well with the current players due to his versatility. If Hood is the starter and they wanted to add some bench depth, players like Eric Gordon, Kevin Martin, O.J. Mayo and Gerald Henderson are all solid options.
Barnes might make sense. He could eventually start at the 4 possibly too. Don't want Gordon's battered body or Martin at his age at least for the rotation. Martin at the end of the bench would be great. The other two might be fits though.
Getting a quality backup who can play the stretch 4 role is also key, given the recent health concerns with Favors and Gobert. There are good possibilities available in guys like Ryan Anderson, Jared Dudley, Mirza Teletovic and Brandon Bass (assuming he opts out). All of those guys would give the Jazz a bit of a different look as they have more range on their jumper than the current bigs on the roster.
All those guys could be nice pick-ups
More than any one player, he's the best thing the Jazz have going for them right now.
This is like giving Sloan credit for the greatness of Stockton and Malone. They sucked at both ends of the court before Rudy emerged.
The Jazz have to do a lot better than finish with a 9-17 record in one-point games in the last minute, as happened this season.
How many of those games don't come down to the wire if Withey is playing though? Hard for me to get past that.
