Cops drag lesbian out of the bathroom for not looking like a woman
I actually don't totally fault the cops here.
Looking at the woman (I am making the slightly unsafe assumption that this is really a woman) if someone told me they were a man I'd believe them, and vice versa. The cop, assuming he's in one of these bathroom-law states, has the responsibility to keep people of the wrong gender out of the wrong bathroom. It highlights the enforcement problem with these laws. Is this really what we want cops doing and how long will it take for us to hear about some woman getting dragged out of the ladies room and beat with a night stick for wearing baggy jeans?

Re: Cops drag lesbian out of the bathroom for not looking like a woman
This is why that transgender law crap could never pass, guys like the one in the video can just claim to be a girl and chill in there. Lot's of creeps out there.
-
Re: Cops drag lesbian out of the bathroom for not looking like a woman
There were 3 cops there. 3 cops didnt show up to kick a dude out of the bathroom.
Obviously, something else was going on before the camera was turned on.

What is the real problem that is being solved? Do we have a bunch of trannies out there raping the straight in bathrooms? This is a cure that will be worse than the disease.

Obviously the only thing being discussed in the video is the gender of the suspect. You're just guessing anything further with nothing to base your guess on.

Never in my life have I ever heard of an instance where three cops showed up just to escort someone out of a bathroom.
Maybe this was the first?

And was it common in your life to have any cops show up to kick people out of bathrooms? Certainly not in mine. But, you know, they are passing laws that now make it's cops jobs to police where trannies pee. Changes things.

I've read that it's a problem for transgenders to go to into men's bathrooms and getting abused by men in certain parts of the country.

Re: Cops drag lesbian out of the bathroom for not looking like a woman
Man **** that. These females dress up AND act like men (impersonating another gender), what do you expect would happen? I'd be fooled. They asked for ID. I don't blame the cops.

I cut the cops some slack because they are trying to do their jobs, and that means in this case trying to enforce a problematic law. But since when do we require ID to use the bathroom? What I used to expect is that people that weren't causing problems get left alone. I guess that is too much to expect.

Common? No. Does it happen? Yes. Murders aren't common either, but tell that to the victim.

Re: Cops drag lesbian out of the bathroom for not looking like a woman
Appearance really shouldn't matter for bathrooms. People say they don't want a trans-woman in the women's bathroom because of fearing their daughter's safety, but do they want that person in the men's room with their sons instead?

America and the entire world is facing this transgender issue. This never was an issue before 3+ years ago (so I'd guess). But, it's a common thing law enforcement are keeping an eye on now with celebrities (Jenner) starting this revolution.
I'm not one to judge. I respect it. But, honestly, this has got to be the most controversial issue right now.

So wherever you live you were used to bathroom raids by cops for trannies? Ok...but I don't think this has been actual law anywhere for all that long.

Re: Cops drag lesbian out of the bathroom for not looking like a woman
How does this relate to the NC law?
There's already a law the prohibits men from using women's restrooms I assume.

From the article:
While the video never specifies its location, new laws in North Carolina and Mississippi require people to use the bathroom that corresponds with their biological sex, opening all kinds of possibilities for new abuses of power that police may now inflict upon transgender Americans and citizens whose clothing may challenge gender norms. The new laws also prevent the states from passing any new anti-discrimination laws for the purpose of protecting members of the LGBT community.
It illustrates the challenges inherent inidentifying the gender of some of the LGBT.

Re: Cops drag lesbian out of the bathroom for not looking like a woman
If you look like a man, don't use the women bathroom unless you accept the risk of something like this happening.
This isn't hard to understand.
I mean, if you look young for your age, you'd expect the clerk to ask for your ID when you're buying alcohol right? Even if your actual age is 30+, he won't sell you alcohol without an ID. If you don't like that then you can try to grow a beard or dress older. Well if you look like a man going into women's bathroom, expect at least some staring or even outright abuse. If you don't like that then try looking more like a woman.

This is my point too.. it should be common sense.. I mean at the end of the day if we're going back to basic principles we are animals. We react based off of instinct. Our first senses may or may not be right. If you propose yourself to be of another gender and carry yourself as another gender, the logical thing to do would be prepared for uneducated, or responses that are known to occur.

Re: Cops drag lesbian out of the bathroom for not looking like a woman
Similar to the logic that blames rape victims for being out late dressed too sexy. So much for individual liberties.
Pull innocent civilians out of bathrooms because they don't meet the individual cop's standard of femininity (or masculinity, though I expect this to be less common). A bathroom dress code that is only posted in the cop' head. Great idea, I'm sure this won't be arbitrary at all.
-
Re: Cops drag lesbian out of the bathroom for not looking like a woman
What's the big deal? She looks like a dude, and how do you know how long she was hanging around in there, or whether someone lodged a complaint or not? Surely the latter would have to be true for a male police officer to enter the woman's toilet in the first place? All I see are people overreacting to a video they don't even know the circumstances of, of an unidentified individual, in an unknown location, getting told to leave (and then being all abusive, and making idiotic affected motions with her arms). Just look at the comments on the video for numerous examples:

Rape victims who are actually out late in a bad neighborhood dressing sexy are actually deserving of SOME of the blame. This is called blame via lack of common sense.
It is arbitrary, just like how cops detect most suspicious activities. i.e smell of alcohol from car leads to cops asking for breath test or something shaped like a gun leads cop to search your car. We really gonna trust cops to arbitrarily know the smell of alcohol or the shape of a gun? Umm...yes we are. Also cops are accountable for their actions. You can file a complaint. We have a system in place to root out bad cops.

A lot of this "blaming the victim" rhetoric (which is really an empty statement anyway: saying a person should try to be more responsible isn't blaming the victim, nor exculpating the perpetrator) seems to be an attempt to pretend that everyone should be able to behave recklessly and do stupid things (like get ridiculously drunk and go off with some man you don't know to a place you don't know), without there being any possible consequences. I'm sure everyone wants this to be true, but that's not the real world, unfortunately. This fits right in there with safe spaces and the freedom from hurt feelings, as a part of the imaginary world the politically active youth of today seem to be living in.
Well no, telling people to be safe and sensible is not the same as blaming them for being victims; what a crude distortion that is.

If you want to act and dress like a man out in public, and you are a woman, have some ID on you. Easily fixed.
It's common sense. If you look like a man don't use a woman's toilet unless you can prove otherwise.
People need to take responsibility for themselves and their decisions. If you want to use public services that are based on gender to protect 99.99999% of population, help yourself as you are the odd one out and need to adjust for your own betterment and humanity overall.
To be fair, I think most LGBT people do this anyway. Just the trouble makers don't.

Very few people ever find themselves wondering what they will need to have if a cop ever decides they are in the wrong restroom. Now, it is becoming law in some states but I can't help but wonder what the huge problem is that they have to pass these laws that have so many bad repercussions, from the problems with enforcement to the business backlash.

Re: Cops drag lesbian out of the bathroom for not looking like a woman
The cops were reactionary assholes and I agree, you shouldn't need ID to use the bathroom BUT...
My sympathy for androgynous and transgender people is at an all time low. Some of these people need to realize that there is still much common decency in society that is practiced based on gender.
Some of these annoying fcks seem to just want to make statements and while not fully dismissing a legit transgender person, I feel like many of these people are just very insecure and messed up who want to go out and taunt the structure of society just because their own issues kept them from feeling included.
Basically, I'm saying lots of these people are full of shit and just want to throw cultural norms in everyone else's face just because they don't relate. That's bogus and in that sense, I don't feel bad that the cops yoked her up and made her realize that while we don't act like it's the 1950s anymore, there are distinct gender boundaries that the majority of our society lives and operates by

It's quite simple. 2 toilets, one for each gender.
People have gender identity issues, that's a fact.
But you need to understand yourself that you need to adjust to what is best for all of society (privacy and security) and not your own individual needs.
Realize that you are not the norm and can't expect special treatment at the cost of the other 99%.
In other words, take RESPONSIBILITY for yourself and help yourself, instead of making an issue out of everything. Don't use gender based facilities unless you are prepared to prove it, when you KNOW people can't tell your gender.

It's sad but true. You don't go outside if you're a black male in groups wearing hoodies and sagging pants during midnight smoking weed or drinking in public. You don't go to buy alcohol without an ID if you're a college student. You don't put yourself in a position to be confronted by authorities or civilians. I do understand she had no other choice but to go in the women's bathroom, but she also knew the POSSIBILITY of being confronted.
What are we supposed to do? Make three bathrooms? If that's the case we start now. Because that IS the only dam way we stop this shit.
