It's no doubt too much to ask any poster on this thread to understand the difference between protesting treatment of blacks (in one's home country) is vastly different than protesting a an extradition bill which later led to protesting for greater political autonomy (in a foreign country).
Then again, this is the same country where ~60% don't have passports and are generally among the worst in the developed world at geography.

it's not about supporting ppl in HK, it's about speak out ur opinion.
the issue is: Chinese commies get to tell u what u can say or not say in ur country (USA, UK, whatever), if u said anything that makes them unhappy, they will shut down ur business market at in China.

I have a passport, my dude. I've been over the seas.
I'd bet a lot of the people here who comment also have a passport, if that is somehow the requirement to have an opinion on the issue. I wonder how many people in China have a passport. haha. Before you get mad, I'm joking... but what an arbitrary requirement.

He spoke his opinion (that Morey shouldn't have tweeted it) and got a lot of hate for it. Maybe his opinion is that he doesn't care about HK? Ever thought of that?
People online seem to think that athletes care about everything that's happening in every single corner of the world, chances are they don't.

Whether he cares about HK at this point is irrelevant. The problem is he supports a disruptive attention seeking protest by Kaepernick that targets the American flag on one hand while criticizing a quickly deleted tweet that was supportive of HK and by implication critical of China.
If LeBron didn't say anything about Morey one could conclude that he just supports free speech. But by criticizing Morey LeBron's position can be distilled to this:
Free speech critical of America: Yay!
Free speech critical of China: Boo!
-
Re:
Not a hypocrite.
China has a whole different infrastructure and problems that we cant quite try to solve overnight.
US has it's own problems. Half the time we meddle in other countries business while we fail to take care of our own.

Except that's not what Lebron said. He's clearly for free speech.
"I do not believe there was any consideration for the consequences and ramifications of the tweet. I'm not discussing the substance."
That's his point. Morey put the players at risk by tweeting that right before their pre-season schedule in China. What if someone got hurt?

Was he supporting the NFL blackballing Kaepernick? If not why not? That's basically the stand he seems to be taking given the news coming out of that players' meeting with Silver bringing up sanctions on Morey.
If LeBron is now chastising Morey for not thinking of the ramifications of his tweet, LeBron is fully culpable for looking like a complete hypocrite for not considering the ramifications of his earlier support for Kaepernick's protest and opposition now to Morey's tweet. If some nut used Kaepernick's protest as motivation for some hate crime would LeBron be responsible because he supported Kaepernick?
If LeBron is for free speech really he should come up with a statement at a minimum that is as clear as Stotts's or Stevens's and better would be to apologize to Morey for questioning his free expression while adding his caveat.
If the players feel endangered maybe they shouldn't have gone. There were players who cited the dangers of going to Rio to explain skipping the Olympics.

At risk from what? Getting arrested by the Chinese government? They would not dare go there. Use your head for a minute. China will not awake a sleeping giant over that. Perhaps expel the players but that's the extent

We talk of "speaking our opinion" as though it is some kind of lofty ideal instead of what it is- mostly uninformed people with a need to vomit our emotions about stuff we barely comprehend. Scott Adams of Dilbert fame was basically right when he said we are essentially experts in what we specialize in and work at (whatever profession) and idiots at the other 99%.
"Everyone is an idiot, not just the people with low SAT scores. The only differences among us is that we're idiots about different things at different times. No matter how smart you are, you spend much of your day being an idiot." - Scott Adams, Dilbert Principle
Our Founders were smart enough to prevent the common man from voting, giving the vote only to property-owners (which today might be done by some test of competence; ie: only 37% of Americans can name our own congressman). Gradually, we overruled the founders and gave ourselves an idiocracy and now the bipartisan "war party" has convinced the common man that they must take great offense to any deviation to the system we operate, and support war or insurrection there.
I also don't like what I see with these Hong Kong protestors calling LeBron an orangutan and the N-word. There were other people who expressed skepticism at their protests, who were not black, and didn't get any kind of racist reaction. Perhaps the British colonialists really did hand off their views to the people there.
