Jalen Brunson is a better Knicks player than Prime John Starks

Current Brunson is averaging 24 ppg on 49.1 FG%, 6.2 apg, 3.5 arpg so far this season. Starks peaked at 19 ppg, 5.9 apg in 1994.

I grew up watching John Starks, but Brunson is so much better a PG than Starks was a SG, come on now.

Numbers are inflated in today's NBA due to pace and rule changes, you can't do a pure stat comparison like it's a 1/1. Brunson is 20th in ppg and that's only among the players who qualify with KD, AD and Bran etc not on the list. Starks' average in '94 puts him in that same ballpark as only 20 guys averaged 19+ ppg who qualified in '94.

It's an odd comparison to make. Starks was prototype streaky shooter and a "star" because the Knicks were on TV a lot and he was their second best scorer, not because he was an elite guard or any kind of threat to the dominance of Jordan. Other than MJ and Pip the best wings were Mitch Richmond, Clyde Drexler, Nique and others.

Shawn Kemp swept peak Hakeem. Hakeem beat Peak Magic without HCA. Dwight Howard beat Peak Lebron without HCA. Baron Davis beat peak Dirk without HCA. Dirk beat peak Lebron without HCA.

Starks is my fav player of all time so I'll chime in. Starks had the heart and khutzpah that he would prob make it interesting. Brunson has the whole bag on offense, he can do anything. But Starks' defense was great and he would make him earn everything. Team-wise, Starks was ahead of his time. He was a 3 and D guy in a league that didn't want the type.

Brunson is on his way, but no he is not a better Knicks player than Starks. He's getting there, let's see what happens in the playoffs.

John Starks was a streaky shooter and played solid defense, he wasn't that great. Was an undersized SG, who couldn't handle the ball good enough to be a PG. Could go ICE COLD very easily.
