Is Kamala Harris actually going to become president?

When the news first broke that Biden was dropping out, I thought they were going to pick a candidate at the convention, or nominate someone else, I just couldn't imagine they'd go with someone as unpopular and seemingly unimpressive as Kamala Harris.

I thought she had no chance to ever win a general election, especially considering she got 0% of the vote in the primary 4 years ago. But the polls have changed pretty dramatically since she became the nominee, and show her as having a legitimate chance to win.

I know the election is still 3 months away, but is this for real? Is this something that's sustainable, or is it just a fluke due to the relief Biden is no longer on the ticket? Honestly, her winning would be even more surprising to me than Trump in 2016.

If Trump makes the mistake of debating her I think she's winning.

Might be a fluke rise in the polls. The same thing happened to McCain when he announced Sarah Palin as his VP, it temporarily helped his polls numbers, but then the public got to know her. I think Kamala will suffer a similar fate.

I generally don't trust polling and I think people were going to turn out for Biden. But I think people are going to furn out in droves for Harris. She wasn't going to win a primary but a national election against Trump and his ilk voters are motivated.

The Republican campaign against Harris sucks, I think most people with critical thinking skills and a memory know Trump isn't going to do anything for them. Whenever we get into specifics he falls flat on his face combine that with his supporters who come off as extremists and idiots.

Bro, that's literally what I was thinking :lol There are pretty significant differences though, as cringe as Kamala can be, she's not the national embarrassment Palin was, Bush was an immensely unpopular president and the economy was on the verge of a depression, so the Republican candidate was dead man walking heading into that election, and Obama was a far more popular candidate in 2008 amongst the general population than Trump could ever be.

McCain just had no chance in '08 regardless of who his VP was, I think Harris has a better shot than he did, but I'll be very curious to see how this all plays out.

I did some digging, McCain announced Palin as his VP on August 29th.

After the announcement, the polls had McCain ahead of Obama in early-mid September. Obama took the lead again in late September and never looked back.

The Harris anouncement has nothing to do with McCain's VP pick polling bump. If Harris gets a bump when her VP pick is announced that may be a similar thing but Harris's current surge has a lot to do with the fact that a lot of people hate Trump and thought things were looking bleak after Biden's debate performance.

She is just an extension of Joe Biden policy-wise. So I’m not even sure why she’s gotten a bump in the polls other than the fact that she’s a woman of color. But if Joe Biden’s approval rating was in the take, then it makes no sense why she would get a jump in approval. She’s a worse Joe Biden.

She's been a joke for years. All you need is that one talking point that she didn't even win one delegate. She's probably not even deserving of VP.

That being said, sure she could win. It's amazing how close it is, but Trump is Trump. Again, I am cool w/ Trump, but he is universally disliked and tends to say shit that gets him in a lot of trouble. I think Vance is worse, though. Vance might actually be the weight they are hanging on him right now. I dunno who that dude is even is, but somehow he came out even more disliked than Trump ( cuz Trump at least has supporters.) I think he should dump him asap. Bad look, but shit is going down down down. I think Trump w/ a decent VP wins, and just like I said with Joe (when people were on that Joe is ok, or even before when they were like I want so and so and so and so... it's like Nah, you get Joe,) TIME WILL SHOW YOU why she is trash.

If the election happened right now I think she loses. Just like Hillary she would win the popular vote but the swing states are showing Trump right now, he would take the electoral college.

Now that said, Kamala does seem to have a ton of momentum going, and every day it seems like the polls inch closer in her favor. If she picks the right VP that would be another momentum builder. Trump failed there with Vance. She needs to keep having more Megan The Stallion moments. She had a packed house that night and it was something that Biden never did. If she has another event of that nature with Taylor Swift or other big names the momentum will build off that.

The primaries weren't a thing until JFK, every other presidency was made by the parties establishment. When you've made your position Joe Biden is a bad president because he's to old to serve how can you be angry when he steps down. I'm pretty sure the Pennsylvanian shooter understood how important conventions were which is why he took his shot at Trump right before it.

When the other political party (that does not win the popular vote) claims the election was stolen (without any evidence) and your main candidate gets the nomination (while being under indictment after indictment). It's not a failure of democracy or a coup to run the best candidate for the job.
