Anyone down for an all-time draft?
Considering it's the deadzone for sports, I thought it'd be a good time to have another draft if anyone were interested. We could put specific rules in place, or just have a normal draft where you pick anyone available.
I figure we'd need 8 posters to make it a legitimate game, and that it'd be more interesting than talking about LeBron or trolling 3ball.

My schedule has been pretty inconsistent lately, as of now, I can be a judge. Will probably join if you guys really need someone.

Re: Anyone down for an all-time draft?
Does it end up as the ideal team or just drafting GOATs?

I think last time we had 8 hours between draft picks considering we're all in different time zones, so I'd be surprised if you wouldn't be able to participate even with an unclear schedule
Does it end up as the ideal team or just drafting GOATs?
I figure after the draft someone could make a poll and see who gets the most votes. Personally, I always try to make a team that works as opposed to just drafting the biggest names or talent available.

Re: Anyone down for an all-time draft?
What about a salary cap modern draft? Max salary cap for starting 5 and bench
Just an idea
-
Re: Anyone down for an all-time draft?
The all-time format is fun and all but kinda played out. Everybody ends up with a stacked roster and then the votes go to the team that has lebron or Jordan.
Modern salary cap would just be more interesting and easy to judge, and require actual team building skills

How about an all-time draft with no Jordan and no Lebron? I'd be down with that idea because voting would be more objective.

i think half of me wants to and half doesn't so put me down for yes unless i change my mind

Final idea: modern/current draft. Starting 5 only. Salary cap or no salary cap is fine.
Drafting a bench always drags shit out and people become disinterested. Starting 5 is the fun and all that matters. Modern draft eliminates the "how does x player fit with the 3 point line" hypotheticals
But your idea is good also. The all-time format is just a bit stale imo

Re: Anyone down for an all-time draft?
i did all time in 2022 and 2003-2023 in 2023
doesn't really matter to me what the time frame is
all time again would be fine
-
Re: Anyone down for an all-time draft?
How about this for a draft format, just to mix it up a little bit
Starting 5 only, if the majority really wants a bench, maybe we could stretch it to 7-8 spots
Only players from 1980 and beyond, cutting out everyone who didn't play with a 3 point line
No LeBron & Jordan
For the roster format, I was thinking something along the lines of
Only 1 MVP/FMVP per roster
Only two players who have ever made All-NBA
The rest must be players who have never been All-NBA
This way we can mix up the rosters, have some guys who normally don't get picked, not have a starting lineup solely of GOAT players

The bolded conditions are too restrictive IMO. People don't know many and will just choose all modern supporting players.
I like the 8 spots, 1980 beyond, no Jordan/Lebron. Those are good rules.

If AW & '87 Lakers get on board, we'd have our teams set.
And sorry post, nothing personal, but you fvck around with the draft too much and pick WNBA players, I want people who are going to make legitimate attempts to build teams.
Highwhey, what's the best mexican restaurant in the east valley? phx, mesa, chandler, gilbert area
that's a good question lol. i really don't know bc the only time i spend in the EV is if I have a project in the area. although technically now i live in the east valley since i bought a house near arcadia.
I know there's a Carolina's off the 60 & Country Club tho, they have really good burritos. Backyard Taco is insanely good and as close to authentic sonoran style tacos as you can get in the US, they have all their locations in mesa/gilbert...wish they had one in phoenix.
Bacanora is in downtown Phx but man, it's worth it.
i generally don't even eat mexican food aside from tacos though, if i'm feeling like eating a mexican dish, i'll call my mom and ask her if she can make it lol. i eat egg whites with serranos, lean ham and dice onions for breakfast. lunch is probably a sandwich most days. dinner is chicken breast kebabs from whole foods seasoned heavily. i eat the same meals pretty much every day except for the weeknds.
i'd take a drive to phx and try some tacos de cabeza early in the morning. there's a good joint on 32nd st south of mcdowell, they open at 7am everyday. worth hitting up early in the am for some tacos. it's a stand by the canal.

Re: Anyone down for an all-time draft?
you know what, panaderia guerrero has some great mole. i don't usually eat from delis or non-restaraunts, but i was buying mexican bread one day and the mole caught my attention, it's chicken in black mole sauce with spanish rice and beans. pretty solid meal, i'd say the mole was a 8/10. 32nd st and thomas during winter, i hit that spot up once a week to buy some bread. it's freaking great to dip mexican bread in some coffee or hot cocoa during winter mornings/evenings...can't wait til we start getting those cold mornings lawwwwwd
pozoleria guerrero sells the best red pozole in all of arizona (28th st and van buren...yes, the van buren :lol)

For what it's worth I think these should be the rules. 8 players starting from the 80s excluding bran/Jordan

Only drafting 5 is kinda odd to me. Would be nice to have a team with a rotation.

Re: Anyone down for an all-time draft?
Alright, so before we start, I just want to make sure we're on the same page with the game.
Only 80's players and beyond
No Jordan/LeBron
8 players for each team
Anyone object or have any other suggestions?

I would personally start at 1977 which is the NBA merger, but won't fight over it. 80's is cool, if we go just 80's to present, what if someone peaked in the 70's and played in the 80's past their prime? If a poster picks a player that I described, do they have to specify the year of the player they are drafting post 1980? This is why I like the merger idea. It's nice time frame where all the 60's players were retired so they can't be drafted.

Are we still doing this?
Only 1 MVP/FMVP per roster

edit: and the whole 80's and beyond this, does this mean for someone like KAJ? Do we get his 80's version even though he was better in the 70's?

When that happens, they'd have to play the post 1980's version of that player. Let's say they pick Walt Frazier, they are not getting the prime version of him, they'd be getting the guy who played 27 minutes and averaged 3 ppg in 1980.
It's only a 3 year difference so I honestly wouldn't care either way, I just went with 1980 because that was when they implemented the 3 point line, so we wouldn't have to worry about hypothesizing how an older player would play with one, plus I just figured it was easier to start with a brand new decade.

Personally, I think that's a really good idea, we'd have to be extremely selective on who we'd choose with only one MVP level talent. Plus we'd be selecting players that rarely get picked, which I felt would make things interesting. But there seemed to be some pushback on that, so if everyone else isn't on board, we don't have to do that.

I can see a poster making mistakes following those rules, then that poster would get mad and rage quit when he is penalized for it. :lol
But 1980-present sounds good to me.
