Rondo avoids jail time, pleads guilty to misdemeanor gun charge

Former NBA star Rajon Rondo avoided a jail sentence Tuesday when he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor gun possession charge in Jackson County, Indiana.

Court records indicate that Rondo, as part of a plea deal, pleaded guilty to unlawful carrying of a handgun. Two separate charges of marijuana possession and possession of drug paraphernalia were dismissed.

Rondo was placed on probation for 180 days and ordered to pay all costs associated with the case.

The four-time All-Star guard and two-time NBA champion was arrested in January after police received a call of a black 2022 Tesla traveling recklessly on I-65 South between Indianapolis and Louisville.

A state trooper smelled marijuana coming from the car and an ensuing search found a firearm, drug paraphernalia and suspected marijuana. A juvenile in Rondo's vehicle at the time was released to a family member.

I saw that part of his probation requirement is that he has to maintain employment.

I don't know if Rondo's still well off, but I assume he's pretty wealthy and hasn't blown all his NBA money yet. So a dude that's loaded and retired now has to find a job somewhere. I thought that was kind of funny.

the marijuana and gun law is such utter bs. marijuana will never be deemed legal on the federal level because it's been historically an easy way for law enforcement to conduct an otherwise illegal search. it's ridiculous that we rely on an officer's olfactory organ to circumvent a search warrant and establish probably cause based on such a subjective judgement. in arizona, they allow officers to arrest you on suspicion of DUI even if you pass the field sobriety test and blood test. it's happened already and the suspect was eventually released from jail but the judge didn't care for their civil rights being blatantly violated without any solid evidence.

Slightly related story time. Many years ago, I was dating a woman who expressed a joking desire to own a pink handgun. I’m a pretty good gift giver So on her birthday, one of several things she got was a pink Glock. Her several times over felon brother had one of his best friends killed in a fight outside the club(Coincidentally by a kid who is a friend of my little brother who I know for a fact, stole a porn VHS from my house over 20 years ago).

he uses the resulting beef as leverage to guilt trip his sister into letting him carry her new pink Glock. Months later, I get a message about the gun being taken during a raid in a dope house because the woman who owns the house wouldn’t claim it and everyone else was a felon who couldn’t legally possess it.

nobody was charged because nothing was found, but I was the only one who could prove connection with the gun because I ordered it online and picked it up from a local gun shop. Who still had the records. She just wanted the gun back.

Foolishly, I actually went down to the police attempting to get it. Of course they took all my information and waited until they had to tell me it was now part of an active investigation and couldn’t be returned until that was concluded.

I’m pretty sure I was included in that investigation because of that bad decision and probably…seeming like I’d be a drug dealer. Nice car…too nice for where I lived at the time(I’d moved back to my old neighborhood at the time). I may well come up in connections with some former dealers depending how realistic the movie depictions of “Known associates” are.

Anyway I got contacted a couple more times by a lead detective who just wanted to have me come down to talk and then get “my” gun. I decided I was stupid but not that stupid and never showed.

Long story short….dont buy guns for gang connected women. I’m sure my name is still in a file.

And I’m pretty sure a business you own counts as a job for these purposes. I don’t think Rondo would have any trouble finding a business to start if he isn’t already involved in one like most of the players are.

Rondo's different. JJ is definitely a better people person and a better fit as a HC, but I doubt he's gonna be the one actually coming up with the plays, he's there because of his relationship with Bron.

Yeah, I was being sarcastic.

Rondo might be a great coach on the court, but I don't know that the Lakers would want the personal baggage that would come with him. Being on probation for gun charges for instance.

Rondo might have good pointers for Bronny on how to play without a jumper but you really can't teach his kind of true point guard instincts. Plus in practice what do the Lakers do if it becomes apparent he's a better player?

Also Rondo isn't a good fit as an assistant to Redick. Would he accept the idea that Redick is the leader and he should listen to him? As a player Rondo clashed with coaches that have decades of experience. Redick has no more experience than Rondo wasn't as good as a player and hasn't demonstrated superior understanding of the game than Rondo. I'm not even sure who is older. Rondo is highly intelligent, has a large ego and is a bit crazy. He would be a pain in Redick's ass.

Rondo is still too much of a headcase to be on an NBA coaching staff. He'd choke out Bronny Jr after blown plays.

They have been changing the laws on cops right to search due to them smelling weed for awhile. Most places they can’t do that anymore.

Same AAU teammate was guilty of both, worst type of teammate I’ve ever had at any level. A significant handful of my friends/cousins who also played in college or at a high level feel the exact same way about these types of teammates….their minds are cognitively female, and incompatible with us.

I can’t speak on DJ mindstate, but RRR3 is without question, cognitively female, and that’s why I hate n!ggas like him too.

I get it, a lot of those anti-lgbtq evangelical pastors are gay af. But plenty of us just hate being around y’all, we find most of y’all annoying & intolerable as teammates/coworkers/etc
