Wembys second year struggles.
He has shot below 50 percent in every game this year. That seems ridiculous for someone that has his physical advantages.
What's much more concerning is he hasn't added anything to his game. Nothing has gotten better, it has mostly stayed stagnant or gotten worse.
He got better as the season went on last year but it's not a good sign that he isn't working on his game and adding stuff in a healthy off season where you can train as much as you want.

Re: Wembys second year struggles.
He trained with Jamal Crawford in the offseason to develop cool handles. That's where his priorities appear to be - playing like a wing/guard.

Re: Wembys second year struggles.
He's a better version of Shawn Bradley, but maybe not even as good as peak Yao or Rik Smits.
He's vastly overhyped and overrated, just like I said in my 2022 thread:

You can tell that when you watch the games. Very little of his game is being operated in the post. If you watch all 50 points he scored last night that weren't threes, it was a lot of 1v1s 20 feet out from the basket.
Which that's impressive, it would just be nice to see him be more consistent in the post too so he has something to go to when he's not making 7 threes in a game.

OP is a fool. No argument there. That said Wemby doesn’t use his height to his advantage. He bails the defender out by shooting 3’s (deep too). Might be easy to give him a pass if he were hitting them at a 45% clip. But he’s not. He has to utilize his height closer to the rim and midrange. Would love a go to move there. I don’t know how anyone can question what he worked on or didn’t in the offseason. Seems like assumptions based on a very small sample size of stats. The good thing is Wemby is 20. Raising an alarm year 2 what 10 games in? Premature. Wemby has so much time to improve his game…and will. I just hope he doesn’t fall in love with the 3. Seems to be what the nba is turning into. As much as folks wanna compare tall guys with ball handling and a jumper to Durant. He damn sure didn’t fall in love with the 3.

Who told you that Wemby was good???
Cable TV
Otherwise, if you were just observing him on your own, you might not conclude that he's that good, and we can now see that he's a better version of Shawn Bradley, but he'll never be as good as Yao, or even super-peak Rik Smits... He'a the biggest wannabe guard in history, and wannabe guards stink

Why are you using FG% like a caveman? He shoots lots of 3s which brings down the FG% (59% on 2s), but his efficiency so far is above average (59.4 TS%). He's also averaging 22/10/3 and he's the best defender in the league. At age 20. MJ was still in college at this age

He'd be the MVP every year in Eurobasket, but in NBA they let him play on the perimeter.

Re: Wembys second year struggles.
Compared to last year his efficiency at everything is up & he's still putting up the same blocks numbers.
He still has the same lows & problems but his highs and overall consistency should be much better compared to last season given the experience & the improved conditioning as his body develops.
Chucking 3s could be a problem if he builds bad habits, but his team isn't in a position to contend now so I don't see an issue with him trying to develop his 3 game because it will pay off in the long run. He's probably never going to be an elite 3PT shooter but he can be really good. He's already at a point where you can't just leave him wide open at the perimeter, and it's hard to contest his shot with his length as is.
He has incredible length & dexterity but he's never going to be strong like Yao or Shaq, so he needs to develop range. Best case scenario is that they get a Brook Lopez type of player at the 5 so Wemby can transition into playing 4 full-time. Like AD I think he & his team will be at their best on defense when you pair him with a rim protector.

As if the Euros aren't shooting a bunch of 3s nowadays :lol

They have guards for that. We saw him play in Olympics and he was mostly in the post where he belongs.

Re: Wembys second year struggles.
His teammates should ignore him any time he steps behind the three-point line.

Shooting 4-13 on them is not.
Neither is 1:1 assist/turnover ratio.

Re: Wembys second year struggles.
Wembanyama has to be the dumbest player in the NBA. I just watched him play for a full game. It was a close game - down to the wire - and every time the Spurs went on a run, Wemby would kill their momentum by bricking or airballing a three. Half of his 3-pt attempts weren't even remotely close. And in crunch time he missed multiple threes that he shouldn't even have been taking in the first place. His coaches need to fix his stupidity.

Not of you aren't good at it and what makes it worse is how good he is within 15 feet. Spurs could have won and were neck and neck with LA until he took those last two threes. It's dumb basketball. Lakers won because they were smarter.
