Re: BREAKING: Buss Family Selling Majority of Lakers
The Buss family has been owner of the Lakers since 1979. 46 years...

Re: BREAKING: Buss Family Selling Majority of Lakers
Didn't expect that but it's probably a good thing for the Lakers as the new owners have more money to spend, not that Walter didn't already own 20% of the team prior to this, so nothing really changes in the short term.

Re: BREAKING: Buss Family Selling Majority of Lakers
10 billion. Was the guess I thought but figured that was hyperbolic. A lot of teams are going to be sold worth this kind of money going around.

Re: BREAKING: Buss Family Selling Majority of Lakers
I wonder if Mark Walter's gonna be interested in winning or in placating Lebron's ego.

Re: BREAKING: Buss Family Selling Majority of Lakers
Total valuation wlould closer to 12B if they are required to keep 15% so Jeanie can stay on as the Guv
Not a bad return on investment though, from 68 mil overall purchase price to 10B for sale price and still keeping 15%

Almost double what was paid for the Kelts, and not even for the entire ownership.

The valuation is $10 billion. He’s not actually paying $10 billion. Let’s say he’s currently a 20% owner and buys out another 70% to become majority owner. He’s paying $7 billion, but that implies a valuation of $10 billion.

And she will have as much clout as Mark Cuban has with the Mavericks now.
Remember Cuban said he had no idea Luka was gonna be traded.

Lakers franchise is the only thing the Buss family have really, and it's expensive to run that team. Jerry's kids are old and probably want to enjoy some of that wealth before their time's up. Celtics also just corrected the market with their sale so it was a good time to go for it.
This is great news for Laker fans as we finally have a majority owner that can afford to spend money on luxury tax etc. Lakers let Caruso go for nothing because they were cheap and had to choose between him or THT (they made the wrong choice of course because of LeGM as THT was under KLUTCH). The new 2nd apron rule makes it less of an advantage now but if the Lakers manage to put another championship team together they won't just tear it apart over luxury tax.
