Battle of 3rd options - Buck Williams destroys Chet Holmgren.. at any age
Ditto Majerle, Vlade, Schrempf and Hornacek
Meanwhile, the 4 thru 7 spots for OKC are undecorated 3-point robots (Dort Caruso, Wiggins, Wallace), while the 4 thru 7 spots for Jordan's Finals opponents were diverse scorers and decorated players with all-star, all-defensive or 20 ppg resumes (Duckworth, Kersey, Ainge, Cliff Robinson).....
Jordan simply faced much better players in the Finals and deeper teams than OKC ... TLDR: today's era is weak af

He was a 2x all-star and go-to player.. unstoppable on the block and feathery touch
Otoh, the 4 thru 7 spots for OKC are undecorated 3-point robots
Today's players are simply worse at basketball.
Heck all-timers like drazen petrovic were a bench warmer for the Blazers' 90' and 91 teams

Re: Battle of 3rd options - Buck Williams destroys Chet Holmgren.. at any age
Jordan beat a team in the Finals who's 2nd option didn't even crack 11 ppg, we're talking some of the weakest rings ever won in the history of the league.

Re: Battle of 3rd options - Buck Williams destroys Chet Holmgren.. at any age
Holmgren impacts the game on defense in ways Williams can’t. And wasn’t he past his prime by the time he faced a Chicago in the Finals?

I was a big fan of Buck Williams but he was only 6'8", and that was probably generous. That would be a problem against Chet.

Buck Williams was far from an all-time defender. Probably wouldn't even be playable in today's league considering the old school power forward is dead. When he peaked on defense, he didn't provide much rim protection. Holmgren gives you elite rim protection and he can actually defend the perimeter at times. If we are talking defense, it's not even close to be honest, Holmgren is superior.

Austin Reaves is one of the best third options in the league.
And Lebron couldn't even get past the Wolves with him. :lol

Re: Battle of 3rd options - Buck Williams destroys Chet Holmgren.. at any age
First the disrespect to Caruso calling him a 3 pt robot. He’s a goat role player and defender.
2nd this is going be an easy bump in a few years. Chet has his flaws now he’s going be a 2 way monster in a year or two. He’s got too much potential offensively he hasn’t shown yet, he’s not going be the 3rd option by then Jalen will be the 3rd guy

Chet routinely plays against guys a lot bigger than Buck. Even if guys get to the rim against Chet it is still a struggle to finish against him.

Re: Battle of 3rd options - Buck Williams destroys Chet Holmgren.. at any age
Buck Williams dominated a big man era and packed paint era, while Chet enjoys the open paint era where he can go "down-hill" for an alley-oop - this spaced-out alley-oop format didn't exist in the 80's or 90's, so Chet would be buried on someone's bench.. He might not make the league - skinny jumpshooters like him or Brad Sellers didn't make it as big men back then

Buck Williams: 3 blocks in the entire '92 Finals

When MJ faced Buck Williams in 1992, Buck was all-defense and had made many all-star teams and all-defense, while young Chet is nothing by comparison... Again, Chet is nothing compared to the prime 3rd option vets that Jordan faced like Buck, Majerle, Nance, Vlade or Schrempf... So Jordan faced tougher 3rd options, while the 4 thru 7 spots were decorated resumes of all-star, all-defense and 20 PPG, instead of undecorated 3-pt robots like OKC's 4 thru 7 spots... And of course Magic/Worthy > Shai/Jaylen... Ditto Barkley/KJ... Malone/Stockton were also superior, while Hornacek > Chet (remember that Hornacek was a much bigger producer than Klay).

Re: Battle of 3rd options - Buck Williams destroys Chet Holmgren.. at any age
Chet is a great defender but Hali going down clearly effected that performance. Both Siakam and Haliburton got off to hot starts and then once homie went down the defense was basically playing on easy mode. Siakam and role players vs a historically stacked defense... yea. Buck would've done the same thing. Anybody could've seen after that injury it was a wrap. You could see the pressure and weight totally fall off the Thunders shoulders when it happened and they played less tight how they started off.

Yea, a dude who averaged 0.5 bpg is accumulating 5 blocks in that single game if he was in the same situation.

Chet averaged 12/9 on terrible shooting with 1.5 blocks per game against the Pacers.
Buck could definitely replicate that dude. Thats simply not that impressive and its wierd you chose now to rep him.
It was statistically the worst playoff series of Chets career. Siakam had him in a straight jacket on defense.

Don't back peddle now. You clearly said Buck Williams could replicate 5 blocks in that game 7 alone.
I also saw Chet alter a shit ton of shots throughout the Finals that weren't blocks. Buck is too small to do that.
Like I said earlier, Buck Williams wouldn't even be playable in today's league. He would be a liability, just an old school power forward who can't shoot nor provide rim protection.
We done with the 90's!

Re: Battle of 3rd options - Buck Williams destroys Chet Holmgren.. at any age
He averaged 1.5 blocks on the series. Thats not impressive or crazy at all. Buck was also a much better rebounder and physical presence.
12/9/1 just isn't crazy to replicate my guy. Horace Grant could've done this too easily in this series.

Had 5 blocks in the biggest game you could possibly have.
He actually averaged 1.6 bpg. Now you are rounding it down to 12/9/1 when it should be 12/9/2.
This is a 3ball tactic. Lying about stats. congrats.

Re: Battle of 3rd options - Buck Williams destroys Chet Holmgren.. at any age

Monster production. That 12/9/1.6 on poor shooting is definitely untouchable.

This is such a childish take. Bucks Williams wasn't a shotblocker just like Rodnman wasn't a shotblocker.
Do you know what Rodman's career high in playoff blocks is? 4. Do you know who's the better defender between Chet and Rodman? See how stupid you sound?
Not saying I agree with any of this Buck vs Chet stuff because I honestly don't care, but this is just an idiotic reasoning.

He waited for Chet to finally do something after Halis injury to start talking shit.
Dude had 11 blocks in the whole series. 5 of them came in the game Hali gets hurt. SGA had just as many blocks in the series as 7 foot Chet.
