What would be the reasons for the Nuggets to not trade Jokic?

The West right now is in a cage match between young teams in an arm's race and old teams trying for one last shot. Right in the middle is Denver a team good enough to compete thanks to Jokic but also a team that won't win a title and struggles to win a playoff series. On the otherhand The East is basically open for anyone to take a team to the finals.

You could reset your team this year and get a bounty from New York or Cleveland and put yourself on a track to do a rebuild. Or do you keep Jokic until he has his bigman fall off that every bigman has at 35

The Nuggets made their own grave with bad GM decisions like signing Murray - he's just an ordinary 18-20 ppg guard that had a couple runs where he popped up to 25 but he's really a 20 PPG guy - not a max guy.. it's absurd

They also refused to trade MPJ or make deadline deals in ast year. It's incompetence...

As absurd as it may be to trade a player of Jokic's caliber, the guy just had a title run 2 years ago more impressive than any of Jordan's, I think this would be the perfect time to trade him. I know Denver took OKC to 7, but this team as currently constructed wouldn't be favored to win the title anytime soon.

Jokic is in his 30's now, and while I'm sure he still has a few more years of dominant play left, you just don't know how long someone with his body type can sustain this level of play as he gets older. You'd be getting absolute max return on a trade for him right now, so if you were to ever trade him, it should be now.

Id be looking to trade murray not jokic. Need a new gm 1st no?

the suns have a great guard available for trade, his name is bradley beal casey (BBC). a pick or two can be thrown in.

booker and jokic would be unstoppable fyi. just need defenders around them.

If you trade Jokic to the Knicks for a package based on KAT your teams fans will hate you forever. You would be incurring massive fan wrath and you better be prepared for that, but if the trade makes sense as some kind of plan for fitire contention you could be forgiven. Don't see how that happens in a deal with tje Knicks.

Cleveland has more good players to pile together in a trade. If you are insanely high on Mobley and Garland you can work out a deal that will keep you somewhere between the play-in and a bad spot in the lottery.

Spurs are not going to call you up and offer Wemby so a deal only makes sense to avoid salary cap penalties. In which case first you should be trying to ditch MPJ and then maybe Jamal Murray. But you are too likely to lose in any deal where the other team is getting the best player and right now no one is better than Jokic.

I think you would try to do a three team deal with KAT going somewhere else for draft picks.

Reason #1: Top three player in the league, and arguably the top one.

Reason #2: Creates synergy - a massive net positive on the court.

Reason #3: Already shown that he has what it takes to win.

Reason #4: They're certainly not going to get anything better for him.

Reason #5: He's proven to be physically durable. That's becoming increasingly rare in today's league.

He’s 29 not 30. Why are you aging him so fast to prove a point? lol Jokic doesn’t rely on athleticism so his age in relation to his production doesn’t match. His primarily skill and brute strength. He’s coming off a season where he avg a triple double. 29.6ppg 12.7rpg 10.2apg. That’s absurd. He did better at age 29 than he did 28. Somehow that miraculously shifts? He will be in the MVP race for the next 3-4 years easily. Barring injuries which can derail everything. That’s the only thing that would hinder him. Not age. Not team success in playoffs.

Trading a guy of his caliber you’re not getting equal value let alone more value. Just because no team has a realistic trade package to even offer. Stranger things have happened (see Luka). But I’m not trading Jokic. You have to get him talent. The most simple and cost efficient way while keeping your franchise player.

Also I don’t know so I’m asking you or any of the know it alls on this board. Speaking of Knoe Itall I’m sure he’s a poster here still. Anyway, what economic impact does Jokic have in Denver? Like is he a cash cow for the city? Like LeBron was to Clev? Obviously not to his scale but the impact was felt and when Bron left it hurt. I just thought of that. I honestly don’t know. Jokic has this careless nature about him you don’t see him meshing wit the public much. I don’t want to assume he does nothing for the community but the optics seem to suggest so

I have a better question. Based on MVP voting over the last 4 years, Jokic has been considered the 1st or 2nd best player in the NBA. When in the history of the NBA was a top 2 player traded without the player asking for a trade?

Why should Denver choose to be the first idiots to step out on that limb?

Or it could start a trend now that someone dared to do it.

Doncic getting traded didn't start a trend. The only advantage to blindly trading a young superstar is to avoid paying the sipermax but normally it's too difficult to get fair value in return.

But that doesn't mean a great or extremely popular player won't ever be traded again. Of course they will.

Even Luka wasn't a top 2 or even 3 player. Please, anyone try to find it in modern history (like don't find some 1950s example for a team that was financially destitute).

It doesn't happen because its illogical. If you fumbled building around the best player, what makes anyone believe you will not squander away the rebuild effort.

Why would they trade him away while he's still productive atm? And also, who will the nuggets get in return from the other team involved if ever? Some questions need to be asked in case they'll do so immediately.
