How many stars do you not remember throwing a single pass?
The issue of Glen Rice and passing came up in a different topic I didn’t want to totally misdirect so here we are.
I’m gonna try the word this clearly while also not giving you 11 paragraphs.
I’m not asking if anyone literally never passed. I’m asking for players your internal memory banks do not have a file involving a pass.
Glen Rice, for example. When I think of him, of course I remember shooting. I remember him taking a jumper and following it and doing a put back dunk like he was Dominique Wilkins surprising everyone in the process.
Nowhere in my internal Glen Rice folder is a pass.
When I think of Allen Iverson, I can think of several passes. A near full court one through somebody’s legs late in his career comes to mind. Some pretty behind the backs. I even remember one from the dunk contest where Kenny Smith went crazy joking about how he had never seen Iverson pass when he lobbed it to Iggy for one of his dunks.
I think what I’m asking is clear so I’ll just give my first prominent example….
I don’t believe I can remember Patrick Ewing passing the ball ever.
I’m absolutely certain he did, of course. I’m sure you could show me Knicks highlights that involve a pass from him that I’ve seen before. But nothing is in my easy access folder.
as for guards? I don’t think anywhere in my internal memory is a Damian Lillard pass.
Who can you come up with?

Re: How many stars do you not remember throwing a single pass?
Guard: Kobe
Forward: McHale
Center: Gobert

Re: How many stars do you not remember throwing a single pass?
Your internal memory contains not only the famous crossover and lob to Shaq But probably a pretty drive where he did a wraparound behind his back mid air for shaq to catch it and dunk.
But the 2000 Alley to shack is definitely in your memory.

Re: How many stars do you not remember throwing a single pass?
Not a star, but Andrew Bynum.

Re: How many stars do you not remember throwing a single pass?
Melo probably, not because he didn't or couldn't pass but I can't remember a single one off the top of my head, he always looked to shoot the ball.
Klay falls in this category as well even though he obviously moved the ball a lot within the GS offense, but that mfer put up a 60 point game with like 2 dribbles and 1 assist total.

You are correct, I also remember his pass to Artest during his 6/24 meltdown, one to Fisher in OT in the Finals in '09, and he dished on Horry's series winner against Portland in '02.
If I were to choose a perimeter wing for that spot, I'd go with Melo.

Re: How many stars do you not remember throwing a single pass?
I do remember Carmelo doing one of those pass it and then do a 360 spin for the highlight moves when he was in Denver. The kind people were mocking Halliburton for throwing in the finals.
I do not believe I have a Klay Thompson pass in my files.

Re: How many stars do you not remember throwing a single pass?
Dirk?
Alonzo Mourning?
Tony Parker?

Kobe led his team in assists 5 times to championship. Have to pass to do that.
I think Kobe might have the most rings as assist leader. Maybe only Magic has him tied.

i’m gonna assume Cousy has six since he won six rings.
As to your point, Tony Parker led at least three playoff teams in assists while winning championships. I would like you to describe a pass of his if indeed you remember One. All I can think of all the Spurs going close to coast and him possibly being one of the guys passing it back-and-forth with Manu. But I can identify Manu in my mind’s eye in those memories. The other guy is fuzzy. Might be Tony might be anyone.
Moses Malone
yeah. I can remember Moses Malone taking a three, but I don’t remember a single pass.
-
Re: How many stars do you not remember throwing a single pass?
I just checked and Moses never had a season where he even cracked 2 APG, that is pretty insane for a player who touched the ball so many times. Even McHale eventually became a capable passer.

Re: How many stars do you not remember throwing a single pass?
Adrian Dantley is a good one too.

He didn't make flashy passes but he dished the rock. I cant remember tim Duncan with a famous assist either.
Jamal Crawford seemed like he never pass once he starts doing crossover dance its a wrap.

I think only Magic, Jordan and Cousy comes to mind as candidates with at least 5 rings and leading team in assists. Cant think of anyone else.
-
Re: How many stars do you not remember throwing a single pass?
Now I kind of want to know the inverse of this question. Most famous passes ever. Birds steal and dish in that playoff game, Kobe Shaq lob, or J-wills behind the back elbow bump dime.

You really think Jordan led the Bulls in assists for 5 of their titles? That's definitely wrong.

Re: How many stars do you not remember throwing a single pass?
Wilkins
Glenn Robinson
Reggie Miller

Peja, and I only remembe him shooting corner 3's. That's it!

Yea that pass instantly came to mind when I saw his name. Reggie had some decent drop offs on the break too.

Depends on what exact criteria we're talking about. Are we talking regular season totals and averages with the Bulls? Playoffs only? Championship years only? There were several times Jordan led the Bulls in assists during their championship runs in average and totals.
Jordan averaged more assists per game in his 13 years with the Bulls than Pippen did in his 12 in the regular season. (5.4 vs 5.3)
Jordan averaged more assists per game in the playoffs with the Bulls than Pippen did (5.7 vs 5.0)
...if you look at the totals and averages it's closer than you think. It's not a foregone conclusion. Many people forget Jordan averaged over 8 assists per game twice in his career in the playoffs.

Re: How many stars do you not remember throwing a single pass?
John Wallace...dish it to him in the post and then proceed to the other side cause he was not gonna pass the ball.

I do not believe I have a Klay Thompson pass in my files.
I think Klay Thompson is some sort of autistic savant. Where he’s next level gifted in a few areas and then just drop dead retarded at many other things.
It’s why he’s such a unique player who doesn’t really have many or any comparisons to other players.
He is probably the best player of guys who are flat out complete non passers, yet can have a hugely effective role on championship caliber teams, and even GOAT caliber teams.
What makes it more interesting is Steve Kerr is obsessed with passing. If you can’t pass you won’t get minutes if Steve Kerr is your head coach. Unless your Klay. (And Steve Kerr isn’t no basketball dummy)
So if you can convince a basketball genius like Kerr to play you even when your game totally flys in the face of everything he believes in…You are different to say the least.
Klay is an enigma.

Re: How many stars do you not remember throwing a single pass?
Dwight Howard, Kevin Willis, Dale Ellis, Allan Houston, Lindsey Hunter. I know the last two aren’t stars but I don’t recall those two ever passing. One just shot the ball the other just…shot the ball. Go figure.
