The LeBron fanbase is dying down
They aren’t as big anymore and aren’t as loud. That’s what it seems like. The ones that are left come across as trolls just trying to get attention. They have weak arguments and will say things such as “Jordan quit and played baseball.” These arguments aren’t working anymore.
Then you have the Lakers fans who say they don’t care if LeBron gets traded. You see now that they have less reason to root for LeBron, they no longer exaggerate his value as a player. Jordan had one all star and won 6 championships. LeBron had 7 all stars and won 4, even if you count the bubble. LeBron lost 6 championships. Shot 35 pct against the Spurs and got outscored by Jason Terry. Jordan would never shoot 35 pct on 6 turnovers and only score 22 and he would never get out scored by Jason Terry.

Re: The LeBron fanbase is dying down
Agree OP.
Furthermore, for Lebron to reach MVP-caliber and win 60 games in 2013 or 2009, he needed all-star spacers like Ray Allen or Mo Williams to open things up for his stiff-arm game.
Lebron's drive-heavy game and need for spacing is a weakness compared to mid-range kings that can shoot over packed paints (don't need spacing) like MJ, Kobe and SGA.
Other weaknesses of Lebron are offensive rebounding, FT's, turnovers, mid-range, clutch efficiency, off-ball, low assist teams/weak ball movement - he lowers teammates' assists by turning them into spot-up shooter (increasing their assisted rates).

I don't know what you mean about not as loud. They're in full on desperation mode, being louder than ever about every little thing he does. Even pretending that he DIDN'T choke away the series against the Wolves. It's OK though. Once he retires and the hype machine dies off, no serious person will ever have him top 5 of all time.

Re: The LeBron fanbase is dying down
Try again. We're still going strong.

Re: The LeBron fanbase is dying down
He hasn't really won anything in like 5 years and most people put an asterisk on the bubble tournament anyway. The Lakers are Luka's team now. He's old. Younger guys like SGA are taking over as the face of the league.
It is what it is.
Wait till he's retired for a couple of years, there won't be much chatter on him at all.

Only difference is LeBron is still one of the best players in the league and coming off an All-NBA selection at age 40.
Kobe was legit one of the worst players in the league his last 3 seasons in the NBA.

Said it years ago that the longer LeBron will be removed from the league, the worse his legacy will be. He's not going to be forgotten, he's just going to be remembered as the guy who lost a ton of finals despite all the help and shortcuts he's taken.
I didn't expect the downfall of his legacy to happen THIS fast lol.

LeBron will still have fans no matter what, but you're right in there being a recent tidal wave of criticism. And it only is going to get worse. I don't think history will be too kind on LeBron quite frankly. They certainly wont be in his pocket like Nick Wright :lol

Meh he'll be largely forgotten after a few years of retirement. This board used to fixate 24/7 on Kobe for many years, by the time he was retired for a couple of years he was already very much out of sight, out of mind until his tragic passing (RIP).
Most kids today just think Shaq is a goofy guy on Inside the NBA, they don't have any idea how dominant of a player he was. They don't understand how big of a marketing draw he was either. There was a time in the 90s you couldn't turn on the TV without seeing a Shaq Pepsi or Reebok or whatever commercial. League will eventually just revolve around Shai, Wemby, Luka, and the NBA probably is hoping that Cooper Flagg becomes a big star. Someone else will come and take the mantle, they always do.
Certain players that endure years/decades after retirement is incredibly rare, it's like Jordan, Muhammad Ali (and his charisma/personality was a 11/10), maybe sorta Babe Ruth and even Babe Ruth I think has faded out, kids today don't give a fart about Babe Ruth. Gretzky in hockey but hockey isn't that popular in the US anyway.

Shaq & Kobe weren't seriously debated as the GOAT, LeBron is.
Kobe also retired right when the NBA was peaking. The league had LeBron in his prime and a dynasty Warriors team years after Kobe retired, which made it easier for some people to move on.
The way the league is now, with no superstar that attracts the casuals the way LeBron does, and overall decline in overall product, LeBron will be talked about for decades after he retires.

To add to my Kobe point, he was also the worst player in the league his last 3 seasons. If he retired while he was playing at a similar level LeBron is today, he probably would have been discussed more.

Uh Kobe was definitely getting GOAT talk around 2009, this who forum was first a Kobe-circle jerk, "can Kobe overtake Jordan!" stuff, and then only became one for LeBron (lol) later. Once both of them are gone, this board will probably fizzle out into nothingness.
Shaq was more heavily marketed than any of these modern players too, Shaq was like the sports equivalent of a massive summer blockbuster movie coming into the NBA, he was everywhere. You couldn't go any where in the mid-90s without seeing someone wearing an Orlando Magic Shaq or Penny jersey, that franchise went from a nothing joke to being one of the most merchandised teams in pro sports right next to the Bulls and Dallas Cowboys and Yankees for the time Shaq was there.
Magic and Bird are other examples, 2-3 years after their retirement most people didn't give a crap about them and they saved the freaking league and were the face of the league for an entire decade on the most storied teams. By '95 good luck getting a kid who wanted to wear a Magic or Bird jersey instead of Grant Hill or Jordan or Penny or Shaq or Kemp.

Kobe was more discussed if he can crack the top 10 or not around that time. I was here. Only people who called him GOAT were crazed Kobe stans who probably didn't even believe it themselves. I never once saw a serious list having Kobe top 2 or even top 5 while he was playing. LeBron is #1 or #2 on basically any list that comes out now.

Yeah pretty much like 1987_Lakers said, and to add the observation that Lebron is being recognized as goat by more people as time goes on. I seriously think you guys are misjudging this curve massively, but I really cant blame you because Lebron haters have been getting it wrong for 20 something years already, what's being wrong one more time eh?
-
Re: The LeBron fanbase is dying down
His haters are making him relevant without even realizing it. This thread will reach 20+ pages why?
Because it's Bron. It's that simple.
-
Re: The LeBron fanbase is dying down
The noise will die down for LeBron the same way it did for Kareem, Magic, Bird, Shaq, Kobe. He's not a cultural icon in that sense in the way Jordan or Muhammad Ali were. Case in point ... do kids even give a shit about his Space Jam movie that's only like 4 or 5 years old?
No, they don't. It left no lasting impact whatsoever.
Magic was thought of as the GOAT prior to 1991 by a lot of people (or Kareem) and no one cared by 1998 or so, that's a period of only a few years, I know even by 1992-93, no one gave a shit about Kareem, it was all about Jordan, Barkley, etc. for 90s kids even though Kareem had not been retired for that long at that point.
Jordan is just an outlier for a couple of reasons, first the mentality (that Kobe tried to copy with the Mamba Mentality stuff) with the hyper-competitiveness and the "And I took that personally" (which has become a pop culture phrase/meme) appeals to non-basketball fans too. Gym bros/UFC fans/life improvement women/runners/Tiktokers etc. love that "unique mindset on life" stuff.
LeBron doesn't really have any of that going for him, he's just 6'9 and talented at basketball, but isn't that relatable to people.
The other thing is the enduring success of the Air Jordan brand as a fashion statement, even now while overall basketball sneaker sales are down virtually across the board for everyone, the Jordan segment at Nike was up in sales even though Nike Basketball is down, lol. The Air Jordan I, III, IV, IX, and XI especially are iconic, and the XIII also popular, LeBron has no iconic sneaker.
And no, whether this thread is 3 pages or 10 pages of the same 8 people posting in it doesn't change any of that either, lol. In 4 years a kid getting into basketball is going to be interested in Wemby or Flagg or someone like that, not LeBron.
