Will Lebron accept a "banger" and hustle player role, aka 13-17 ppg
It's the only way the Luka can win with Lebron.. LeOld is a huge negative when he's a big part of the offense.. He needs to turn into Charles Oakley and get every loose ball.. It would be a "horry" ring for Lebron, but it's the only way the Lakers have any chance.. If LeNegative is a big part of the offense, he will stop the Lakers from being the 60-70 win team that peak/vengeful Luka is good enough to have.

Why do you feel the need to create another LeBron thread? This has been discussed already in other threads...Enough already...

Point me to the other threads where it's recommended that Lebron average 13-17 ppg in an Oakley role, and I'll happily go to those threads.
"All the interactions we've had with LeBron and his camp, Rich in particular, have been positive and supportive," Pelinka said on Saturday. "The dialogue with [Paul] has been open and constant."
With James picking up his $52.6 million player option this offseason, there has been constant rumors over the future between the two sides.
It was reported last month that the Lakers prefer to let James play out his contract and leave next offseason.
Pelinka added that he is open to having James retire as a Laker depending on how many more seasons he wants to play.
"I think the No. 1 thing we have to do there is respect he and his family's decision in terms of how long he's going to play," Pelinka said. "We want to respect his ability to come up with his timetable on that.
"I think that's really important. But, if he had a chance to retire a Laker, that would be great."

There you go, plenty of more years to talk about him some more. Just leave this forum for the rest of the offseason/summer.

You're actually right.. I was bored. I posted in the off court lounge and then came in here and needlessly spammed a whack thread that isn't on the level of my other recent threads. Although I do think Lebron prevents winning at this point of his career, when he's a material part of the offense

Re: Will Lebron accept a "banger" and hustle player role, aka 13-17 ppg
Just think, Lebron could have won a fourth ring in 2025 if his ego wasn't so big. OP is spot on about the role Lebron should be playing. Instead he'd rather drag Luka and Reaves down so he can pretend he's the alpha.

We can not take you seriously. The man already won his fourth ring with the Lakers in 2020. Luka and Reaves leading the way in 2025 wouldn't have changed anything. The same outcome would've happened. OKC champs and SGA FMVP.

You don't know how hoops works if you think that
Luka/Lebron is like the modern Bird/Magic, so they should have a goat dynasty and 4-peat
the ONLY reason the Lakers are only expected to be a middling team is because LeOld isn't good anymore and actually a massive negative.. I'm pretty sure that he's the only negative All-NBA player ever (aka not really All-NBA)
-
Re: Will Lebron accept a "banger" and hustle player role, aka 13-17 ppg
I agree.
If he accepted a role where he could focus a significant amount of energy on defense this would create a better cohesive team.
I've seen when Lebron gets down in a stance and wants to guard with a purpose. Even at this age, he's extremely good at it. Also a great communicator on defense.
The problem on offense is the Lakers refuse to try a Luka and Lebron pick and roll. I believe this should be a foundational play design for them because Lebron standing in the corner is not ideal. This way, it directly involves Lebron in the play and on any catch where they double Luka you have one of the best passers EVER in Lebron to play 4 on 3 like Draymond gets to do quite often with their pick and roll with Steph.
Lebron is not a rim roller or massive lob threat but neither is Dray and it works extremely well for the Warriors over the years. Ayton can just go to the dunker spot when he's on the floor.

It's not a modern day Magic Bird because one is 40 years old. This isn't like pairing Bird and Magic up in '85.

I agree with all this and the PNR option with Luka/Lebron.
but ultimately, Lebron's inability to move and score off screens puts a lower ceiling on the offense compared to someone like Curry for example
The Draymond role is interesting but that's a super-unique organic role that he took years to grow into... Not sure it works with Luka either - Luka's game is to do everything - ultimately it might be him that puts as lower ceiling on the team... It's just a bad fit imo - they both want to do the same thing - have the ball.. neither moves off screens, which is a big fundamental to lack.. Lebron should go the banger route and see if the superior fit and positive minutes is enough to win

He could have won his fourth LEGIT ring.
But as OP has accurately pointed out. The man is a net negative at this stage in his career.

Re: Will Lebron accept a "banger" and hustle player role, aka 13-17 ppg
Charles Oakley and '13-17ppg' are mutually exclusive concepts. He had two seasons averaging 15( 14.5 and 14.6 to be exact), a bunch of 11-13ppg seasons, and overall was a career 9.7ppg scorer.

Re: Will Lebron accept a "banger" and hustle player role, aka 13-17 ppg
During one of his seasons with Miami, LeBron was the most efficient shooter from the right corner. He knows how to play off ball. It's insane to think that as an old man, LeBron could basically give you all the positive aspects of a Boris Diaw and Nic Batum as a connector/size-mismatch/spacer.

Bonds from draft to his max weight represents almost the same gain in mass as LeBron from the draft to his max weight. The difference is, Bonds started at 6'1" 185, and Bron started at ~240. This means Bonds added way more weight relative to his frame.
I'm skeptical of the idea LeBron put on a bunch of muscle from PEDs, as he came into the league muscular beyond his years (unless we think he was blasting HGH during puberty...)

Jordan couldn't dominate in his late 30s as he has a one dimensional game that doesn't age well
Otoh LeBron is the most versatile player ever which has allowed him to win on any team and still give all star level production into his 40s

Honestly im sure they've played with it in some context. Perhaps they are saving it for the playoffs. In Miami for at least a couple of seasons the pmr with Wade was their most devastating play. In LA with AD the same, so im sure they are aware of its potential

Re: Will Lebron accept a "banger" and hustle player role, aka 13-17 ppg
Jordan couldn't dominate in his late 30s as he has a one dimensional game that doesn't age well
Otoh LeBron is the most versatile player ever which has allowed him to win on any team and still give all star level production into his 40s
Lebron was lottery at 35 (2019) until AD and Luka arrived to give the Lakers a positive record.
Furthermore, the Lakers lost massively with Lebron on the floor last year and missed expectation (upset loss in 1st Round).
Otoh, 40-year Jordan had a positive plus/minus, so the Wizards actually won with him on the floor, while also meeting expectation as a team... Jordan still averaged 20 in a tougher format where teams scored 20 less PPG than today's wide open beginner format
So Jordan was just as effective as Lebron at 40, and NEITHER were dominant.. Stop being baby-brained and thinking these old geezers can still hang with the best - they can't, which is why Lebron is just an 11 ppg role player now and was a negative stat-padder last year - the reality is that the Lakers are like "no stat-padding this year Lebron", so Lebron is just a role player now
Btw, if Lebron had great IQ and was truly versatile, he wouldn't have a long list of bad fits and key teammates playing below capacity.. For example, when Westbrook arrived, he should've put on his Karl Malone hat and fit like a glove with Westbrook... Instead, it was the worst fit ever because Lebron's skillset is the same as Westbrook, aka primary ballhandler.. And it's HIGH-SCORING primary ballhandling, aka ball-dominance, which turns everyone into spot-up shooter and cratered guys like Bosh, Love, Hughes, Jamison, Ingram, Westbrook, IT, Reaves and many more..
Ultimately, Lebron has a lottery record in the playoffs against the Nuggets, Spurs and Warriors, while never beating the TWolves, Mavs and Magic (losing to all 3 as a favorite).. He perennially-lost and underachieved at every stop, such as 1 for 6 with AD, or 1 for 4 with Love/Kyrie and Wade/Bosh (except the Allen miracle)... 100+ players in history would do better than this.. Ultimately, Lebron has a non-winning record with every type of good roster, such as 4-4 with preseason favorites, 4-6 with Finals teams, 4-8 with all-star teammates and 4-5 with top seeds (1 or 2 seeds).. Otoh, Jordan is undefeated in All of these scenarios (edit: 6-2 with all-star teammates).

It's going to get really interesting if Lebron keeps up the low scoring levels and then his plus/minus turns positive after last year's negative.. It will show that Lebron stat-padded last year and now the Lakers aren't letting him stat-pad/score anymore... It proves that his scoring isn't optimal/always positive

You know what's not going to get interesting? Watching you slowly die inside everytime a great player does great things. Give it a ****ing rest, Jordan is goat worthy, Kareem is goat worthy, and.....Lebron is goat worthy. Nothing you can do about it. You can leave a million more posts on the web crying about it and he'll still be right there stuck in your craw. When have we ever gave a single solitary **** about the plus minus of a 20 plus year vet? That tells you everything you need to know. Mj played 15 seasons. Lebron has obliterated his last couple of seasons in every season past 15, if we go check the numbers he might even be better than some of the 2nd 3peat in that stretch. Hes cemented bro. Time to give it up for the kang.

lol All-NBA is a joke and not any more serious or correct than a Stephen A Smith and Monica McNutt morning show (those are the buffons voting on it).. Furthermore, Lebron is the only negative player to be selected to All-NBA, which proves that his selection was a fraud... Again, the Lakers drastically underachieved, aka losing in the 1st Round with Luka = not being a good NBA player, so Lebron isn't good anymore (he loses in the 1st Round with Luka)
