Some of you are just figuring this out now? It's the fundamental reality that separates the men from the flea infested stray dogs soaking wet in an alley.
A man understands that life is competition. Happiness, success, health, these things aren't guaranteed. They are temporary states you have to fight to maintain. When you lose them, you don't whine and bellyflop into the PC crowd hoping they'll catch you. No, you get up and fight to get them back. You let nature take its course. Get better or get GONE.
Then you have the other types. The ones who are shocked SHOCKED! that life isn't a fairy tale. When their little world comes crashing down, they don't have the testosterone to handle it. So what do they do? They come to a basketball forum, create a thread, and declare with unearned profundity that "EXISTENCE IS PAIN."
It's the ultimate admission of defeat. A public announcement that you're not built for even basic social adjustment. Pathetic.
The "die at the same time" line from the video is something I once told my Dad.
Because if I'm lucky.... If I'm very lucky.... my kids will be attending my funeral and i will never have to attend theirs. Either way, It's still going to be sad... but the happiness my children give me still fills me with fear that maybe one day that could end too? Hell, I'm just happy my kids are alive, safe, and healthy.
I've seen kids die at an early age and the damage it does to the parents. I've told both my boys as long as they DON'T die before me, all is well... but either way the happiness they got to enjoy with their father ends for them.
So yea.... knowing that happiness always ends.... I once told my Dad the same thing (who has passed away 10 years ago).... "wouldn't it be nice if a nuke wiped us all out at the same time?"
Nobody can sit here and tell me how great their life is.... Nobody..... your happiness has a expiration date.
So if happiness is not the answer.... what is the goal?

Which is why you really have to try and enjoy what you have while you have it.
And also try to not to waste any time focusing on what other people have.

Emotionally immature people are in competion with everyone else. Everyone needs to be happy for what the have, and not miserable because Joe Schmo has more than they do. Anyone can focus on that all the way to Elon Musk's billions, and I am sure even Musk is envious of someone else's power or love or looks or whatever.
Honestly everyone should just be extremely grateful that they simply exist at any capacity at all.

Uh, what's wrong with that? That would mean you lived a live of happiness and died happy. That should be the goal for every human being.
Nobody should seek out trying to be happy, happiness is a fleeting emotion. I think the biggest trap people fall into is trying to live their lives based on other peoples or societies expectations of them, instead of choosing a life that truly works for them and will give them the best chance of being content. I feel like everyone is pressured to fit into the same box of office/corporate life, marriage & kids, when the truth is, not everyone is suited for that life.
The other two things I think will absolutely improve your life is first, cut social media out from your life. I genuinely believe that's the most toxic environment to be involved with, seeing everyone's prearranged highlight reels all day and comparing it to your everyday life, there's literally no other reaction to that than to feel worse about yourself :lol I think cutting that out of your life will instantly improve your state of mind.
The other is to not fall into the rat race of life, stop buying shit you don't need, stop keeping up with the Jones', spend your money instead on experiences, not things. Because eventually you sink your money into too many things, the things you own end up owning you.

Getting old with my loved one and one of us dying naturally even if not at the same time seems like a happy ending to me.

You yourself are constantly in competition with people arguing about whatever politics on this very site. So you might not be practicing what you preach. Life really isn't a gift for most. Its a tough struggle for a small fleeting payout in the end. Being in nothingness the void is what's easy. Not this.

Disagree. Existance is a blessing for most. I'd say like 95% of the United States.
There are some who truly live tortured lives, but most do not. Not in this day and age.
You could even point to those currently in war in the Ukraine, Gaza, etc and if they still got 20 years war free first? worth it IMO.

You might be out of touch then dude. America has never been more sick, isolated or divided as it is now. Just because people in 3rd world countries are going through a worse hell doesn't take away from our struggles. This is not a heavenly die-mension by any means regardless. On a very superficial level we are doing "better" now... weve established international agreements and institutions which have somewhat kept wars in check, and we have the technological improvements which make a lot of things easier and more comfortable.
But our standard of living and happiness has diminished greatly. Many factors for that.
And we are trading in freedom whenever the gov demands it.
Some of the stuff we get restricted in now was unheard of even when we didnt have that many laws and "democratic" gov structures.
Nothing has changed from the medieval times. Its different methods now. Sure were no sword fighing in the street anymore... its done through different venues.
Governments work togeher to do it as least violent as possibe, but shit hits the fan, the boys hit the shore, and it will be by any means necessary to advance whatever agenda they have. For our "safety/security". Were morally far more rotten and violent because leaders arent held as accountable in those times. True power comes from sneaky backdoor meetings now. Theyre far more out of touch and in their bubble.

The low testosterone perspective is very interesting. It can lead to an existence is pain thread, but if you look at some low testosterone posters such as Axe and BurningHammer (both who might be the same person), they are probably the happiest people on the board.
Look at Axe, all he really needs is a microwave, some Hot Pockets, and an internet connection. BurningHammer would be just as happy with some old wrestling VHS tapes.
Even if you were to take the internet away from Axe, he can just cycle through the different personalities of his 70+ alts, and live them in his head, or in person. It's not just political division, it's cultural and spiritual division.
What we're experiencing currently is definitely unique in terms of our modern history. We were always divided politically but we were still united in our values and morals. Now we are culturally and spiritually at war with our own family, friends and neighbors. We don't even agree on the most basic things.
Our parents and grandparents experienced their own unique obstacles, but nothing like this.
The phrase "Two Americas" has never been more accurate.
