Joel Embiid MVP odds are currently at +15000
This guy has no minutes restriction, is not on any injury report and last time he was healthy(2024), he scored at literally the highest rate in NBA history. He’s not only really good in the box score he’s actually really good at impacting games, if Philly is healthy, they will easily make the playoffs and in the shitty east they will probably be a high seed. High enough for him to easily win MVP, based on the comeback vibe of it in the extra credit he will get for surprising all the casuals and media dumbbells that have written off his talent.
I’m taking this bet. I’m going on record right now.

Re: Joel Embiid MVP odds are currently at +15000
If he misses over 17 games he's disqualified from contention on top of the high-level competition. Good luck.
-
Re: Joel Embiid MVP odds are currently at +15000
I think it's a really bad bet, he's going to have to average like 35PPG for the media to give him a second one.
If you are going to take that big of a swing...Zion has the same odds. A healthy Zion is likely going to be top 3. I think it's likely going to be Luka/Giannis/Zion as those are the guys who are basically must perform this season. The Pelican's have to play Zion to trade him and he could very well go to the east midseason.

Zion is not even close to a healthy Embiid in any area.
Embiid was averaging 37 per 36 on peak Kyle Korver efficiency in 2024.
You say he’ll ‘have to’ like thats not what he does. This is exactly why this is a good bet if not for that stupid new rule RMWG just mentioned. I forgot about the game requirements.
Like you would be surprised and impressed with Embiid going back to his old level and Philly inevitably winning more games than anyone expected. Just based on what you’ve said I guarantee Embiid would be your MVP if he plays at his level again.
You’re betting on Zion playing at a level he can’t play at versus a guy in Embiid who already has.
As far as anyone is concerned regular season Joel Embiid is literally the GOAT. Literally LeBron or Jordan good. Like legitimately. Only Jokic can even pretend to be that good in the regular season right now.
Maybe in-shape Luka is at some new level, but that is absolutely it. Wemby has a ways to go.

I think Embiid has learned his lesson about how dominating the regular season creates playoff expectations hes not comfortable with. Thats why he exaggerated all those injuries last year and basically said hes never gonna be an elite player again even tho theres nothing identifiably wrong with his knee at this point.
He'll find some way to keep the pressure off. Either a new injury or just not playing as well as he used to, on purpose. He doesnt want the pressure and expectations of being an MVP guy. He'll take the money of course, and none of the shmuck fans or team officials will call him out for it. But I expect he'll go out of his way to NOT win MVP from here on out.

Exactly.
Odds are calculated very specifically and usually on point. Especially tilted against underdogs with small payouts for favorites.

Re: Joel Embiid MVP odds are currently at +15000
I'll give you better odds that regardless if he's healthy or not he doesn't play the minimum amount of games to qualify. Awful bet.

Re: Joel Embiid MVP odds are currently at +15000
It’s already been reported he might never play the second night of a back to back again. His team is tied for the most in the league with 16 such sets of games. He’s gonna miss the second game all 16 times. Meaning if he misses even 2 other games he’s ineligible for any award.
save your money.

He just won't play enough games, that's the issue. All he needs to do is be his old efficient self n lead Sixers to a top 2 seed in the East and hope that Jokic/SGA aren't as great as they were last year then maybe he'd get a 2nd, but he'd also have to risk his health playing more games than he's allowed. Not gonna happen.

Re: Joel Embiid MVP odds are currently at +15000
The rule doesnt make any sense.
Just say you weigh/factor missed games in.
Someone misses 18 gms and the other candidate only 17 who is far worse, but then gets the MVP.
Doesnt make any sense.

Media awards are based on narratives and stats but the narrative has always come first. Philly and New Orleans are two of the more crooked organizations in the NBA. Zion being unhealthy is something I would be very skeptical about. Just like we saw with Luka in Dallas owners will eff over their players to avoid the max contracts and Zion's value has been deliberately put down for financial reasons not basketball ones. If you are going with those big numbers I wouldn't be shocked if Zion doesn't end up as the 1 seed after a trade to Miami or New York.

Re: Joel Embiid MVP odds are currently at +15000
Sadly, they created a rule on the fly to stop embiid from being a candidate for every mvp. “The Embiid Rule” where you have to play a mandatory amount of games to qualify for awards. They couldn’t stand that he could play 50 or so games yet lead the ballots for mvp :oldlol:. They couldn’t stand that in his 50 games he could pack in 100 games worth of stats. So they just made a rule on the fly to stop him from winning the award every year. It’s actually pretty blatant and pathetic
Embiid is the greatest per minute stat producer in the history of the sport only behind Wilt….yes over shaq….yes over jordan….yes over Kareem and Bron

Re: Joel Embiid MVP odds are currently at +15000
I hope you hit but embiid will be load managed this season. Hope you hit but it’s going to be difficult. I don’t trust Embiid. He’s liable to be listed as doubtful next game. And he might miss back to backs.

1 for 8 to start so far on opening night. Four points halfway thru the third.

Re: Joel Embiid MVP odds are currently at +15000
Sounds crazy but it's true: the Celtics would have won tonight if he had played in the fourth quarter. Philly should trade him for anything. All he does is take jumpers and not with much confidence. If I had seen him for the first time today I would have no idea what his game is.
First time in seeing this guy Edgecomb play. I do not think he's averaging 30 but he was impressive.

He ranked high in MVP voting once when he played 51 games. Otherwise, he was nowhere near contention when he played fewer than the rule now requires.
His most impressive performance minute stat is FTA/minute, which is almost 20% higher than the next player - Shaq. And Shaq wasn’t getting all those attempts because he was a free throw merchant.

If hes not going to sign because a team expects him to compete hard and be mentally tough or else not get paid the tens of millions he signs for, I wouldnt want them anyway.
But this is exactly why teams wont do it. You just be typing like Joe bag of doughnuts. Athletes look at how franchises treat other athletes. And if it’s down wrong especially when it comes to money? They are less likely to deal with you. You can go back through the years and find examples. Heck go back to how Krause treated MJ/Pippen. And listen to fellow nba players say they wouldn’t sign in Chicago if that’s how they treat star players. You average joes swear your way of thinking/logic applies to pro athletes where most are connected. In an era where teaming up, being friendly is the norm. And you don’t think a franchise tossing embiid to the curb would have no negative feedback from embiid peers? Who think of him differently than the avg joe fan? You’re full of yourself. Keep typing nonsense. I’m a realist. If you can trade Embiid and not bring back crap deals that hinder your franchise. Go for it. I’m not married to keeping him. But your scenerio is what a person who plays video games would do.
Owners thinking of doing moves based on fan perception? You do realize they signed Paul George. Fans were not excited, hype about the fat contract he was given. After coming off a contract year where prior too he missed MORE GAMES than Embiid. And well what do we have here. George injured last season and to start off the new season. But yeah owners care about what we fans think…
Another move sixers made that fans didn’t want and voiced it on talk radio. As well as podcasts. Bringing back Kyle Lowry. Guess who is back. Yeah owners too scared of what we think. Stfu

Re: Joel Embiid MVP odds are currently at +15000
Embiid's contract is guaranteed so to waive him Philly would have to buy him out. With what Embbid has shown the last few years he would be a fool to accept a penny less than the full amount he's due in a buyout situation as his next deal would be the vet minimum to ride the exercise bike all year for the Lakers in the hope he can give them 20 minutes per of good playoff basketball. So unless there's some salary cap clemency clause out there Philly gets nothing out of that move except a roster spot and 3 year massive cap hit or whatever stretch provision that wouldn't be preferable.
I do not know who would trade for him because the player/contract combo we saw last night is the worst in the NBA. But with what we saw on the court I have no fear of hurting Embiid's feelings. I'm getting on the NBA GM group chat and asking everyone in front of everyone what they would give us for him and praying for a miracle.

Nets buying Simmons out in his final year is vastly different. Embiid has a 300 million dollar contract with three years on it. It's not about "guts" its about spending hundreds of millions of dollars. They are screwed either way, if they can't save some money there's no point in waiving him and there's no reason to think he will give them money back.

yeah cutting him gets him out of the building but doesn't increase their cap space, even if Embiid agrees to a discount.
