It's NFL Sunday.

What that mean?
NBA would usually play games on Sunday om ESPN.
Nothing wants to oppose the nfl. It’s the whole reason they moved tnt games to Tuesday. The nfl crushes everything else to such an extent it would hurt future negotiations for rights.

All your takes are unbelievably antiquated.
"What that mean", like the NFL hasn't been dominating the sports landscape for at least 2 decades :lol
The NBA even ditched having games on Thursday to avoid the usually shitty NFL Thursday night game, and you're acting surprised they don't have games in direct competition with them on Sundays?

You would not believe how many people in Wisc. where hats ,sweatshirts , jackets of the packers .... merchandise monguels must be making a fortune over these idiots

While only one game was scheduled last night, I don't think it has to do entirely with not wanting to compete with the NFL. Don't think Silver wants teams playing the 2nd of a b2b when it's a tournament game. I could be wrong though.

The NBA is definitely ducking the NFL like everything else does. The only things that don’t duck the NFL are things that know there is virtually no overlap and who might be watching them. Even a random network sitcoms don’t go against the NFL when they can avoid it. They can get 40 million viewers for a regular season game.
Jordan’s 98 game 6 vs Utah is the highest rated NBA game of all time Game seven of the World Series they just happened was the most viewed baseball game in 35 years and both got less viewers than A regular season cowboys packers game from a couple years ago.
competing with the NFL simply depresses ratings too much. They don’t need the ratings for individual games to make money but the networks do and they don’t wanna run a multi billion dollar investment up against a machine it can’t compete with.
including last night’s bum ass game Thursday night football behind a pay wall and strictly streaming averages almost 16,000,000 viewers a week, which is almost the same as last year’s NBA finals game 7 which was free over the air.
The NFL is an absolutely unstoppable juggernaut. I remember years ago on here being told they wouldn’t be around more than five or 10 more years because they made an enemy of Trump. The NFL might be the only entity in America that can shrug off literally all outside criticism. Gotta remember to ask Johnnysic about that. Told me to check back in five years when they were beefing with Trump in 2017.
Those people legitimately thought the NFL could be defeated by politics.

While true... last night's NFL game is still shown on pay channel Prime, but NBC is pretty much free and think having a game on wouldn't draw awful ratings depending on the match up.
Kind of useless to compare the 98 Finals, considering a Dallas Packers game is a huge rivalry and Im assuming that game was free also just like the Bulls game. Put the Cardinals vs. Seahawks on Thursday night on pay Prime against free Lakers vs Celtics game I'm sure it wouldn't be as lopsided for the NFL as you'd think.
Thank you! I've been saying that everything going to streaming hurts. Tuesday night double header back on TNT was both games on TV. Now on NBC? First game is on NBC, second is on Peacock. Wtf is that shit?
Also, Friday night games being on Prime? What happened to ESPN? Its a joke.

Yeah NBC trying something new... putting the 8pm east coast on NBC while on West coast it's on Peacock only. Then it's the opposite where 11pm game on Peacock and in the West it's on NBC. It's a prime time thing they're doing.
Before if you had cable snd ordered league pass you'd be set to see the games. Now you gotta pay 15 bucks for each peacock and Prime. Luckily when Peacock first came out, it was automatically added to my cable line-up. Im not paying for Prime. Ill pick a month with some good games and use their 30 day free trial

Theyre diversifying subscriptions a bunch of different ways to extract max profit. You need to have 4 or 5 subscriptions now to watch. Netflix model has taken over everywhere now.

There’s nothing useless about the comparison. It’s literally the highest rated NBA game in history. And yes, they were both on free TV. But when is the final title game of the most Famous basketball player in history in a time where readings in general were easier to get to the less competition.
If anything, the comparison is especially apt because it should favor the NBA game. It just doesn’t.
if I was trying to make an apples to apples comparison, it will be to an NFL playoff game like last year’s conference championship game that had $58 million for the Chiefs and bills and 44 million for the Eagles game.
The NFL routinely trounces the all-time NBA record. It’s not even noteworthy if the NFL gets 30 million people. They had 34 million in week two.
Unfathomable NBA numbers are awful week for the NFL.
it’s just a monster, and if you have good sense, you don’t put your sports against it.

Prime already has well over 200 million subscribers in America. Probably why that’s where the NFL went for streaming First. More people have prime than have cable. They don’t all use it for video, but they have access
Stream everything
Football ****ing sucks but it's popular because people only have to watch their favorite team once a week to be able to talk to other humans about what is going on with their team. Attention spans continue to diminish as smartphones continue to reshape how our brains consume information. The NBA will never compete again. An MJ successor would definitely drive interest but only the NFL can **** up their own dominance at this point.

It's only popular in the States. So not that popular overall. NBA should worry about global stats.

Soccer is popular everywhere else because everywhere else is poor by comparison, largely speaking. Soccer also ****ing sucks but it's super popular worldwide because all you need is yourself and a ball to play.
With basketball you need yourself, a hoop and ball at minimum.
With football you need yourself, a football and 2 other people at minimum. Or just 1 other person if you want to play catch.
NBA really doesn't start till the playoffs
I think for most people it's
June-October - Baseball
September-January - Football
March - April - NCAA Basketball
April-June - NBA
November/December for the NBA is really just when teams decide if they are going to blow up or contend each season. The legue doesn't really start until Christmas Day and after the Trade deadline

A big part of that is NFL superstars dont hop teams like NBA players. In the NFL people follow their favorite teams. In the NBA their favorite players.
Lebron is partially to blame. Team hopping in your prime didnt used to be a thing. Kobe and Magic are Lakers. MJ is Bulls. Bird and Russell are Celtics. Hakeem is Rockets. Curry is warriors. Srockton and Malone are Jazz Etc.
Team hopping culture killed the NBA because most people dont want to watch a bunch of spoiled brats run around colluding and complaining and sitting games out while making 100s of millions of dollars. Its a joke league now.
Group subscription services are saving the NBA while nobody watches.

The only cities who got to see two NBC games was El Paso and Oklahoma City. lol

oddly enough, the new format gave them the best early season ratings in 15 years. But you never know if that’s playing with the numbers which is easier to do with streaming. They might be counting everyone who simply clicked the link and let the stream start.
NBA Sundays have largely been like this for ten to twenty years during the NFL season.
