Can the "Mavs sent Luka to the Lakers" conspiracy bullshit die now once and for all?
Some trades were surprisingly pricy for the returns; others that likely would’ve been mistakes, like how Harrison attempted to deal two first-rounders for Kyle Kuzma, went unpunished despite Harrison’s best efforts.

One team source recalls a document where Harrison placed Jrue Holiday within the same tier of talent as Nikola Jokić. While at Nike, Harrison’s role involved talent evaluation. But from the very first moment he was hired, several league sources say, there were questions whether those evaluations would translate to coherent team building.
The man wanted to trade two first round picks for Kyle Kuzma.
He thought Jrue Holiday was the same caliber of player as Jokic.
I mean I don't know what else you guys would want to "prove" that he was just an idiot and that's it. You can't prove a negative (that the conspiracy didn't exist) so if you don't believe it now you likely never will.
He really was just that clueless and he happened into his role alongside a new owner who was even more clueless about basketball, at the time.
If there was any conspiracy at all, and I doubt this is true btw, it's that Mark Cuban purposefully hired a shitty GM ahead of selling the team. But more than likely that's not even true and Cuban just made a huge misstep of his own.
People typically don't get to positions like this while being complete dumb****s but they do make it through every once in a while.
So don't let anyone ever tell you that your opinion is invalid because someone holding X position disagrees with you. Do not let the opinions of other people be "evidence" that you're wrong. They either prove it or they don't. Relying on someone else's opinion as "truth" is an idiotic way of looking at the world if it's something you have spent a significant amount of time on yourself or you can fact check what they're saying.
Re: Can the "Mavs sent Luka to the Lakers" conspiracy bullshit die now once and for a
You also have to acknowledge that there is no way in hell that Cooper Flagg specifically was promised to the Mavs. This would require foresight of AD and Kyrie getting hurt and then them promptly missing the playoffs entirely. So the players purposefully got injured? Or they're faking the injuries? Or if they had stayed healthy AD & Kyrie would have purposefully thrown games? You see where this is going? There is no path forward to the Mavs acquiring the #1 pick this past draft outside of complete and utter dumb luck.
Also consider that he called the Bucks about Giannis to see if he was available and in said phonecall didn't let them know he was shopping Luka. He did the exact same thing with Antman and the Timberwolves. Called to ask about availability and didn't let them know he was shopping Luka. Then he talked to the Lakers and took their offer without even opening up the news that he was shopping Doncic.
And he didn't even really get any draft picks. He got 1. We've got Rudy Gobert out here fetching years worth of draft picks and Luka ****ing Doncic gets 1. lol.
He didn't open up the bidding for Luka when it is obvious to anyone and everyone that has followed basketball for more than 2 days that he could have gotten a massive return for trading Doncic. He went with a player he liked that he targeted in his own mind.
He's an idiot.

He is no doubt a dumbass. However why did he not shop Luka and take other offers? Why rush it? He must have known the level of reaction he would face from the fans. I believe ownership told him to trade him no matter what in order to not pay him super max and stay under the apron.
Re: Can the "Mavs sent Luka to the Lakers" conspiracy bullshit die now once and for a
To be fair the conspiracy theory as far fetched as it was, was way more believable than Nico being that much of an incompetent dipshit.
I did see the thing about him insisting to other front office members that Jrue and Jokic had similar value.
The whole situation is totally insane.

It looks strange and shady but Nico is seriously that retarded.

It's simply not a trade any GM would propose to an owner.
"Let's trade our incredibly popular perennial MVP candidate phenom, the identity of our franchise just entering his prime, to get the remainder of Anthony Davis' career in his 30s."
I dont care how competent someone is, people still have self preservation instincts. You wouldnt even propose that out loud to an owner if you did believe it. It would be overtly asking your boss to never take you seriously again.

I don’t know. From reports that have been sent out it seems like Nico is built different :lol
Re: Can the "Mavs sent Luka to the Lakers" conspiracy bullshit die now once and for a
No. There's no getting away from that or them.
99% of conspiracy theories are bullshit.
100% of conspiracy theorists are idiots.

Don’t just surround yourself with people who stroke your ego
The day after the Mavericks lost their final game to the Golden state Warriors in the 2022 Western Conference Finals, I met with Nico to formally quit my position with the Mavericks, and to have an exit interview.
There, I warned Nico about some of the developments I had witnessed during his first year in office: In particular, that he did not have a good grasp of who he should trust and who, among those under him, were simply kissing ass.
Nico had drowned out many of the voices who could provide perspective, including those of the department where I was an analyst. Instead of being willing to hear critical input, Nico had empowered people who had little basketball knowledge — and these tended to be people, such as attorneys, who had worked their way up the ladder thanks to Nico himself.
These people stroked Nico’s ego at every turn. Their unwillingness to disagree created an echo chamber.
The Luka trade doesn’t happen if Nico’s ego isn’t inflated with every interaction inside the Mavericks front office.
Nico is an idiot and not fit for that position. It wasn't a conspiracy.
Virtually any fan that has ever lived anywhere would have done a better job with the Luka trade by simply not trading him, or getting a better package back. Virtually ANY fan on this site would have done better. He was that bad.
Re: Can the "Mavs sent Luka to the Lakers" conspiracy bullshit die now once and for a
OMG this guy is the guy that was the leader of the Nike team that botched the Steph Curry signing where his name got mispronounced by one of the Nike members, nobody corrected it, and during the presentation they put up a slide of Kevin Durant?
Why am I not surprised?
This guy literally failed upwards as high as one can realistically go without having a truly redeeming quality. HAAHAHAHAHAHA.
Re: Can the "Mavs sent Luka to the Lakers" conspiracy bullshit die now once and for a
This was never about getting the Lakers a superstar..this was Dallas screwing over it's franchise player so they didn't have to pay him. The Mavericks basically stole 130 million dollars from Luka...this is Texas sports team culture. Mark Aguirre had the same thing happen to him in the 80's. Your top franchise draft pick ready for the big contract. Aguirre went 7 games in the conference finals the year before they moved him to Detroit

Again this is just conspiratorial nonsense. They could have accomplished that and gotten such a better return in the process. It's not true, lol. Nico is really just stupid and that's the main point here. The rest is trimmings.

That's really the part that confuses me. You think anyone in his position would even dare propose this to the ownership?
I don't think they put a gun to his head and forced him to do it, but the owner definitely played a part in trading Luka. All the other shit that comes out after is just damage control as if Nico was a moron who was acting alone and no one could stop him. They were in trade talks for weeks right, so Kidd and the owner 100% were involved in making this stupid decision.

Let's assume that's true. It still doesn't explain whatsoever why they didn't open up the bidding and get a better haul. If the owner just simply said "trade him immediately for the first offer you get" that would make sense but there's almost zero ****ing chance that happened.
Hell they could have gotten a better deal from the Lakers, never mind everyone else.
Nico is a retard. You are over-analyzing it.

Of course he is, but this wasn't a solo mission. As for why they did this privately, maybe their dumb asses thought that Luka would then force his way to a certain destination and they'd get even less than they did? They wanted AD and were scared Luka wouldn't choose LA? Who knows. There's no grand conspiracy here, but I find it interesting how they wait this long to fire him and then we hear about what a moron he was as if no one else was involved or didn't have the power to stop him.
Re: Can the "Mavs sent Luka to the Lakers" conspiracy bullshit die now once and for a
Conspiracy Bull$hit die now?
WTF kind of stupid dumbass thread is this? As if Nico getting fired is like some sort of proof that there wasn't a conspiracy?
Is that what we are doing in this thread?
So all the Mavs (and the NBA) had to do was fire Nico to dissolve all conspiracy suspicion? That's basically what we're proclaiming in this thread?
