Chris Duhon agrees to join Knicks
ESPN Insider Chris Sheridan reports the New York Knicks and Chris Duhon are close to an agreement that would give the former blue devil 11.5 million over the next two seasons. Donnie Walsh met with Duhon today and it appears it won't be his last.
Solid back up. I don't care how much it is as long as it's 2 years
JULY 4 UPDATE: It's happening. The Knicks will get Chris Duhon.

Well....It's a start...Great pick up.
-
Re: Chris Duhon and Knicks are close to deal
quality move for the knix
duhon and gallinari may not be the sexiest names but at least they are guys who are gonna go out and play their hardest and at least make the knicks competitive. sadly that alone is a step up for the knicks.
and duhon has been kind of hidden there behind Hinrich but he actually plays well when he gets the minutes. good for the knix
-
Re: Chris Duhon and Knicks are close to deal
:applause: Really good pickup. I think the Knicks might be headed in the right direction.
-
Re: Chris Duhon and Knicks are close to deal
This offseason is going to be a big one for the knicks,
-
Re: Chris Duhon and Knicks are close to deal
At first i thought this was going to be some 5yr/Full MLE type of deal, but 2 years is a damm good move.
Defensive PG that can do a little of everything.
-
Re: Chris Duhon and Knicks are close to deal
i like this signing by the knicks... shows their committed to putting a better product on the court and at the same time not forgetting to keep their finances under control.
-
Re: Chris Duhon and Knicks are close to deal
after signing him trade randolph

wtf do you mean? they cant sign any player for more then the MLE, and we knew NY was only going to sign 2 year deals for lebron which they wont get.
-
Re: Chris Duhon and Knicks are close to deal
I like this deal for the Knicks, good pick up.
-
Re: Chris Duhon and Knicks are close to deal
Essentially they are overpaying for the two years, but they need to convince free agents to "only" sign two year deal. After two years, after Knicks get Lebron, they can resign Duhon again without cap implications...is that right?
Edit: Never mind. You have to have 3 years for Bird rights. Duhon has to go under cap.
Also, I think D'Antoni desperately wants to cut Marbury and needs at least a serviceable point guard to convince Walsh to do it. Duhon is good enough for that.
-
Re: Chris Duhon and Knicks are close to deal
I dont know whats funnier. Knicks getting Lebron or Duhon having a damn STICKY topic.

Ya think Chicago make playoffs this year? Fingers crossed....
Actually, I proposed a Zach Randolph and David Lee For Larry Hughes and Joakim Noah trade. Think that helps both teams and their goals.

You know Chitown is talented, filthy style. Yeah...Chicago won't make the playoffs next season...:jackoff emoticon:
Lee doesn't have the size that Noah has. That deal makes no sense as chicago would be left without a center except for the too slow to play in vinny del negro's system aaron gray.

Noah isn't a real center anyway. They should sign Diop or something....
But Lee and Randolph give Bulls more inside presence and rebounding....Lee is a step up from Noah and ya know Paxson would LOVE David Lee....perfect Paxson guy.....

he is a perfect paxson guy but who plays Center, Gooden? Check the Chicago Sun Times. Paxson said they are NOT going to go out and sign any free agents except for Luol Deng and Ben Gordon. They already have 13 roster spots filled. That's what happens when you've been in the lottery for the past 10 years. There is no vacancy in Chicago for NBA players except #1 overall picks like Derrick Rose.

If you get Randolph and Lee, you can trade Gooden and his expiring contract for a real center, perhaps. You certaintly wouldn't need Gooden with this trade.

he's not even a backup. defends, shoots, gets to the hoop, and particularly important he can push the break.
I don't see Marbury doing a better job since he doesn't have a good big man to work the pick and roll. I don't have faith in Randolph or Curry.
-
Re: Chris Duhon and Knicks are close to deal
Seems like a lot of money for Chris Freakin' Duhon, but whatever I guess. They're going to suck until some of their bad contracts run out or are traded away. Might as well give Duhon a chance and see if he's starter material.
-
Re: Chris Duhon and Knicks are close to deal
Idk I always felt this guy was underrated. Can defend, shoot, distribute, push the break. Whats not to like? There was a reason Skiles started him over Ben Gordon.
-
Re: Chris Duhon and Knicks are close to deal
Gave him the whole mid level exception? Guess thats it in the FA market for the Knicks.
From what I saw of him I would kinda agree with Final Wrath. Just not absolutely sure he's the best fit in Dantoni's system but neither are most of the Knicks roster:roll:
-
Re: Chris Duhon and Knicks are close to deal
He can distribute well enough to tally 4 assists in only 23 minutes a game for a team with no great scorers... D'Antoni should like him. Shot selection seems to be his only weakness so far in his career.
-
Re: Chris Duhon and Knicks are close to deal
Yeah, now they just need to sign a new owner.
-
Re: Chris Duhon and Knicks are close to deal
$6 million per?! this is worse than the jared jeffries contract.
Duhon is undersized, can't shoot, is slow for a PG, has weak handles for a PG, and has a SERIOUS drinking problem. He's going to get all bubbled up in NYC. just watch.

Wrong. Jeffries received a 5 year contract.
In order to sign a player for only two years, you have to overpay them. Otherwise, they'll just go for the more secure, longer contract somewhere else.
Smart move to get Duhon. If they overpaid for these 2 years, who cares? As long as he comes off books by 2010.

I bet the Bulls would take Curry over Thomas and Noah any day. What do the bulls need? A scoring big man. Tyrus Thomas has no offensive game, Joakim Noah is garbage and looks like garbage. They got rid of all the big men that they needed Brand, Chandler, Curry.... Gooden/Noah is probably the worst frontcourt you can have. Curry can score and thats what the bulls have been looking for that for years.

this is the classic example of what i mean when i say new yorkers are the dumbest, most self-absorbed, and rudest people on the face of the Earth. Only a New Yorker could not only rationalize to himself, but boast about the Curry trade...:hammerhead:
Trading away two unprotected 1st round picks and a whole bunch of players for Eddy "Double Whopper with Cheese, fries, and a milkshake" Curry was beyond idiotic. Thanks Zeke!
-
Re: Chris Duhon and Knicks are close to deal
Duhon is a known drunk who stays out partying too late and doesn't show up to practice. Wait till New York media gets a hold of his antics.
You'll hear more "My alarm didn't work" excuses when he misses practice starting in training camp.

That's probably why he can't shoot to save anyone's life! He's all hung over the next day. Although, I do remember skiles' unexpectingly sitting duhon out of a game right before tip off. it turns out he was drinking in the locker room before the game to "take the edge off."

What did the bulls get with those players? Tyrus thomas all he can do is dunk. Noah is garbage. They need a center like curry. And how the **** am I rude, dumb, most self-absorbed? Yes Eddy curry is fat but not as fat as your girlfriend. He can score and thats what the bulls need the most a scoring big. I didn't "boast" about the curry trade I want him out of NY cause we don't need him here. Bulls big men- Gooden, Noah, Gray, Thomas all of these players can't score

i didn't mean you personally, i meant new yorkers in general. anyways, your right about chicago needing a low post scorer like Curry but we already know he'll score 15 points in the 1st quarter and then 2 the rest of the game. we already know some days he gets into early foul trouble just so he can get a breather on the bench. we already know eddy isn't very smart and has no desire to win.

I told you what to do, David Lee and Zack Randolph for Larry Hughes and Joakim Noah. Then trade Gooden and his expiring contract for a true center.
Lee and Randolph give you both scoring inside presence and 20 rebounds game combined. Noah isn't a true center anyway....so Bulls need to get Diop or use Gooden as bait to get one.
-
Re: Chris Duhon and Knicks are close to deal
I can't believe David Lee is on the block, out of last years knicks I would make Lee the starting power forward and gut the rest of the team with an exception to Balkman because he brings great energy and works his ass off.

There's a reason. Because of Isiah's ineptitude, they can't afford to sign Lee for big money, so they have to trade him. Plus, they can package Lee with either Randolph or Curry, to get rid of their big contracts.

thats unfortunate, the best thing Lee can do for them at this point is package him with a less than desireable contract in order to lower the payroll. Ugh the knicks truly make me sick, Lee should already be one of the best young stars in this league but he is getting a worse deal out of being associated with the knicks than the other Lee, Spike.
