I thought it was only SEC football fans that are blindly and stupidly passionate about their teams. I'm being proven wrong.

Going to lock this thread too, Game?

There is no conspiracy. Kanter's father kept detailed records of all expenses and that was given to the NCAA. Most expect him to be cleared, though he might face a small suspension (5-10 games).

Re: Tennessee Vols Basketball 2011 Season

No one will win the SEC easily. The East is a murderer's row as Florida, Georgia, Kentucky and Tennessee could each win the conference. The West has Mississippi State but they only play hard when it comes conference tournament time and will find playing defense a little more difficult without Varnado basically holding the entire paint down by himself. With regards to Tennessee they'll be good and a contender in the conference but not legit Final Four contender good.

Florida should be the favorite in the SEC. It can be hard to win without bigs, experience, senior starters, athleticism, defense, depth and 2 offensive black holes taking up a quarter of your available healthy players as the Gators have learned the past couple of years. Right now the Gators, who were a remarkable turnaround jumper away from sweeping the Vols last year, appear to have none of those challenges this year. They return all 5 starters from an NCAA tournament team who would have advanced and won a lot more of the close games they lost during the season if they had more than 8 healthy, available bodies. Of those three available non-starters two were offensive black holes (Werner and Shipman) that defenses didn't pay attention to and the other was a freshman PF (Murphy) who lost 20 lbs due to a bout with mono before the season and had trouble competing physically*and*with*regaining*his*conditioning.

Both black holes are gone, Murphy's back up to 230 lb, Patric Young is the best rebounder and defender in last year's class, Casey Prather was one of the best defensive wings in last year's class and has drawn Corey Brewer comparisons due to his athleticism, Will Yeguete's a hard-nosed combo forward who's a rebounding machine and a little underrated after only recently coming over from France via Côte d’Ivoire, Iowa decommit Cody Larson would have been snatched up by Ohio State had Big Ten rules not stood in the way and Scottie Wilbekin reclassified to get in this class but was get 2011 top 50 buzz after blowing up at Boo Williams. The freshmen are already bringing the kind of physicality and defense Florida's lacked in the past and not only will their additions permit us to keep our legs fresh throughout the season (4 starters averaged between 30-35 mpg last year) and hold 5-on-5 practices but we'll actually be able to press for the first time since 06-07.

They've got the pieces. The only question now is will they have the killer instinct that separates good teams from great teams.

Florida has supposed to be good the last two seasons, what is it this year that you think will be any different?

Nothing.

Florida wasn't expected to be good last season. that's why they were unranked in the preseason. With good reason too as every member of the starting 5 was either a freshman, first year player, first year starter or adjusting to a new position.

Florida was ranked #19 in the preseason the year before because the votes were tallied before starting guard Jai Lucas transferred immediately following the season opener, it was known Adam Allen suffered a career-ending injury and it was known Eloy Vargas (the guy who Kentucky fans are lauding in their frontcourt) would miss most of the year on top of the other issues voters took on faith Donovan would be enough to compensate for. To make matters worse Allan Chaney missed most of SEC play with injury. You've got real problems when Alex Tyus is your starting center.

So why is this year different? Florida was a team last year that nearly all of its losses came in the final seconds as depth gave out. Offensive black holes Werner and Shipman (now gone) couldn't hit an open shot and long with no one to spell our guards who were themselves learning new positions and keep their legs fresh we had the worst perimeter shooting season ever under Donovan. Interior depth was an issue as Kadji went down for the season early in the non-conference needing herniated disc surgery and Murphy was playing winded and 20 lbs lighter than what he reported at.

Guard depth is twice what it was last season. Interior depth is twice what it was last season. Perimeter shooting will improve with the additional shooters, guard depth to keep legs fresh, comfort level in their positions and more interior options to keep defenses honest. Defense will improve with increased depth allowing us to press for the first time since 06-07, we've added Patric Young who was the #1 rated defender and rebounder at his position by Rivals, we've added Casey Prather who was the #4 rated defender at his position by Rivals among other guys. So yeah it's not hard to see why returning 5 double-digit scoring starters, of whom 3 are seniors, has got them at preseason #11 in the preseason and were picked by the SEC media to win the conference.

That being said I'm not ready to call them Final Four contenders either as they've got to show that on the court but the early returns from practice are very good. And as I said before there are 5 teams which have legit chances at winning the conference and when 4 of them play in the same division anything can happen. But it's a lot easier to make an argument for Florida than say a team like Tennessee which lost 3 multi-year starters and has to rely upon Swiper-boy and the walk-ons.

Well Tennessee is favorite to win the conference, so Florida isn't favorite to win the East.

Really? By who? And yes, Florida is the favorite to win the conference by at least some sort of grouping of people with some credibility. I swear, you've got to be the most ignorant and misguided fan on here.

At SEC media day you're world beater, guaranteed Final Four participant Volunteers were picked to finish 4th in the East.

So, who has deemed Tennessee the favorites to win the East?

What? The FACT that Tennessee was indeed picked 4th? I can't make that up, because, you know, it actually happened!

Tennessee was not picked 4th in the East. I know that for a fact.

Alright, it's obvious you're doing nothing but wanting to try and piss me off, because no one can be this stupid naturally. But just in case...

Florida was picked to win the SEC by a panel of media voters, the conference announced Monday. The Gators return all five starters – Kenny Boynton, Erving Walker, Chandler Parsons, Alex Tyus and Vernon Macklin – from their 21-13 season last year.

There you go. Irrefutable evidence. Florida picked first and Tennessee picked 4th in the East. I could have swore you were a better college hoops poster last year but apparently I'm remembering it wrong.

what dipshits. Florida sucks, Georgia sucks, and Kentucky is talented but young.

Tennessee will win it, you can count on that.
