Reigning champion Paul Pierce of the Boston Celtics will defend his title in this year’s NBA Three-Point Shootout Contest, which will be held on Saturday, Feb. 19, at Staples Center in Los Angeles as part of NBA All-Star Saturday Night.
Rounding out the field are All-Stars Ray Allen of the Celtics and Kevin Durant of the Oklahoma City Thunder, Daniel Gibson of the Cleveland Cavaliers, James Jones of the Miami Heat, and Dorell Wright of the Golden State Warriors. Allen won the contest in 2001.

Re: 2011 NBA three-point shootout particpants announced
Not a bad group. Having Durant Allen and Pierce will be good. Adding Miami's sharpshooter also isn't bad. Would've been nice seeing Kobe or another 3 point shooting star in there.

Re: 2011 NBA three-point shootout particpants announced
Sounds about right, no complaints. I think it'd be cool if they had some old timers in it though, shot's last to leave you and all that.
Durant? WTH?
He's a star player and he's a shooter. Better than just having better shooters whom no one cares about.
-
Re: 2011 NBA three-point shootout particpants announced
I thought Pierce's challenge to Allen couldn't be done because the NBA allowed only one member from each team?
-
Re: 2011 NBA three-point shootout particpants announced
Poor boobie. Bet he will not be safe from all the cavs jokes.

Billups? Nash? Dirk?

KB, really? has his numbers been that good to say he's 3pt contest worthy?
-
Re: 2011 NBA three-point shootout particpants announced
Sounds good to me. And I'm sure there will be plenty of fodder to be gained about Durant's inclusion. No matter what he does, we'll hear a lot more about it.
Keep in mind that he is a two time HORSE winner with a goto shot being the 3 pointer. He can stroke it like nothing when nobody is guarding him.
Jesus is the favorite.

Definitely not Billips. Dirk and Nash are a good idea. Doesn't mean Durant is a bad one though.

Daniel Gibson beating Kevin Durant in the final round. :applause:

Exactly what I was going to say, though I think Billups can be in there, he's never had a chance before.

Spurs just signed him. I know he has no chance to make it, but I'd be damn willing to bet that he'd win it if he ever had the chance to compete in the 3-point shootout.

All of them have been in the 3pt shootout plenty of times.
The above mentioned Richardson and Kevin Martin are better suggestions, established veterans who've never competed.

Would be pretty sweet if the Spurs signed him specifically for the 3 point shootout, which obviously didn't happen, but it woulda been cool.

Re: 2011 NBA three-point shootout particpants announced
Pierce vs Allen.

Re: 2011 NBA three-point shootout particpants announced
Kevin martin SHOULD be in this, but as usual he's ignored.

The nba doesn't want to see kids imitating his funky release

Why the hell not? They let MJ "try" it 1 year, and he was shooting below 30% from deep.
-
Re: 2011 NBA three-point shootout particpants announced
James Jones will dominate.

This isn't the type of contest Kobe could win. He's a volume shooter. What I don't understand is why Shawne Williams was left out. He's the 3PT% leader.

Re: 2011 NBA three-point shootout particpants announced
Has Nash ever participated in this contest??? He would probably win since he such a good shooter. Most people don't understand that he maintains that 50/40 % mark shooting off dribble. Not a spot up shooter like Ray allen.

I'm pretty sure Kobe was invited and he said no. He was supposed to be in it last year or the year before (or both) but he backed out at the last minute. He's afraid to get exposed.

Re: 2011 NBA three-point shootout particpants announced
Shouldnt Gibson be in the NBDL all star game the Cavs arent an NBA team.
BOOOORING.
-
Re: 2011 NBA three-point shootout particpants announced
I think the pure 3pt shooters will win aka gibson, dorell, or jesus

Nash was in it a bunch of times and the last time he shot something like 8 threes.

Exactly.
They put a good group together.
It was getting old seeing one trick ponies in it.

Re: 2011 NBA three-point shootout particpants announced
Not bad participants but it could be better.
Who even cares for Daniel Gibson or James Jones ?
Bring us more Allen/Durant type of superstars
-
Re: 2011 NBA three-point shootout particpants announced
I wish Ray Allen would come back and dethrone his teammate. Paul should get out or face the shooting legend, Ray Allen.
