Warriors and 76ers discussing Monta Ellis for Andre Iguodala trade
ESPN reports:
The Golden State Warriors and Philadelphia 76ers have discussed a trade that would send the Warriors' leading scorer, Monta Ellis, to the 76ers for Andre Iguodala, according to league sources, including one with direct knowledge of Golden State's thinking...
The Warriors would beef up their perimeter size and defense with Iguodala, who is 6'6" and 207 pounds and can play shooting guard or small forward. Iguodala would be paired with the 6'3", 185-pound Stephen Curry at point guard and 6'9" small forward Dorell Wright.

Jackson might have a new roster when he starts coaching
thoughts ....

Re: Iggy = Ellis ratings (potential trade)
Hope magic can pull off a miracle trade fr iggy, we need someone besides Dwight to play defense.
-
Re: Iggy = Ellis ratings (potential trade)
Love it for Golden State, but I'm not sure about what it does for Philly. Wouldn't Jrue Holiday and Monta have the same conflict as Monta and Steph Curry?
If this trade does happen, how long until some team steals Evan Turner for nothing?
-
Re: Iggy = Ellis ratings (potential trade)
Ellis and Holiday should be able to switch assignments. Ellis is capable of guarding smaller guards, and is Brandon Roy's Kryptonite. Holiday is 6'4" and is a tenacious defender. I think they'll be okay together, not great, but okay.

trade works for both teams.
Curry + Iggy would work

Philly gets a bonafide goto scorer whom they havnt had the last few years. They ranked 18 in points per game last year. I think the deal works for GS as well as Philly. Ellis is going to make that teams offense better.

Re: Warriors and 76ers discussing Monta Ellis for Andre Iguodala trade
Wow, evans will never be a trade bait in the future if this trade goes through. I was hoping he would become a monta ellis type of player.
-
Re: Warriors and 76ers discussing Monta Ellis for Andre Iguodala trade
They could do worse, but I really think this'd be a bad move for Philly. They're going to put Turner at the 3? What of Thad Young then? I just don't really get it, if I were a Philly fan I'd probably be more interested in money dump + pick/s + prospect.
-
Re: Warriors and 76ers discussing Monta Ellis for Andre Iguodala trade
Would have thought they would source a big man with Iggy.

I love the kid, have since he was at UCLA, but can he really switch and consistently guard opposing 2s consistently? I'm honestly asking.

Re: Warriors and 76ers discussing Monta Ellis for Andre Iguodala trade
GS could really use Iggy in place of Monta. That'd make them much better. Shooters like Curry and Wright around him. Williams' scoring off the bench. A huge defensive improvement on the wing.
What does Philly do with Monta though with Jrue,Lou Williams,Turner and Meeks on the roster already? If you include say, Lou Williams,Speights and Biedrins, its a little better.

Re: Warriors and 76ers discussing Monta Ellis for Andre Iguodala trade
No good having Iggy on the court with David Lee. Need to trade Lee for someone who isn't a matador.
-
Re: Warriors and 76ers discussing Monta Ellis for Andre Iguodala trade
Ellis would be a nice addition to an aging team like Spurs or Celtics, to carry much of the offense and help their veteran stars.
-
Re: Warriors and 76ers discussing Monta Ellis for Andre Iguodala trade
i like the trade. steph would really need to step it up.and the warriors still need a center
-
Re: Warriors and 76ers discussing Monta Ellis for Andre Iguodala trade
I thought the Clippers were supposed to trade Kaman and a pick for Iggy :[ That would've worked well with both teams.
-
Re: Warriors and 76ers discussing Monta Ellis for Andre Iguodala trade
I like it. Warriors finally get a defender, and get rid of the small backcourt.
76ers get a guy who can score, and isn't on a godawful contract. Hopefully by the time Ellis' deal is done they can transition Evan Turner to the starting 2 guard role.
-
Re: Warriors and 76ers discussing Monta Ellis for Andre Iguodala trade
Monta is worth more than Iggy. We want something else thrown in the package for depth. I want Meeks or Speights in the deal.
-
Re: Warriors and 76ers discussing Monta Ellis for Andre Iguodala trade
I hope Iggy will play for one of the contender team. Dude's will be a great 3rd wheel and a role player in a contending team. He'll just waste his time playing for GSW

Re: Warriors and 76ers discussing Monta Ellis for Andre Iguodala trade
Meh.. Sixers need more scoring but there defense takes a hit// Turner has shown he can be a pretty good defender but not in Iggy's class..GS gets a little more versitile but they are still probably not even a Playoff team..
-
Re: Warriors and 76ers discussing Monta Ellis for Andre Iguodala trade
Magic and Mavericks would be a good fit for Iggy.
He wasted so many years in Philly as the 1st option and it's time for him to be a 3rd/2nd fiddle in a contending team.
I hope Mavs will drop Butler and make a run to sign/trad Iggy! Mavs will have a very good wing defender now which they're missing so badly this Finals.
-
Re: Warriors and 76ers discussing Monta Ellis for Andre Iguodala trade
C: Marc Gasol
PF: David Lee
SF: Andre Iguodala
SG: Shane Battier
PG: Stephen Curry
would be...

Warriors get raped in this deal.
-
Re: Warriors and 76ers discussing Monta Ellis for Andre Iguodala trade
Great trade for Philly. I think Monta is worth more than just Iggy in my opinion.
-
Re: Warriors and 76ers discussing Monta Ellis for Andre Iguodala trade
Philly get the better end of the deal. Lou Will is fools gold, he's always going to be a guy who can get hot every now and again, but pretty much useless otherwise.
-
Re: Warriors and 76ers discussing Monta Ellis for Andre Iguodala trade
:oldlol: Iggy not worth Monta Ellis? You dudes smoke crack. Overvalue Monta Ellis much?
I guess Sixers couldnt get a quality big man for Iggy. Not that the league has plenty but I figured someone would bite. Then again maybe the big men that could have been had werent worth it? Like Al Jefferson? I dunno. I mean if Sixers tell me we tried to aquire a big man and struck out? Then I can live with Monta Ellis because he provides a go to scorer this team sorely lacks.
But Jrue/Monta backcourt I hope and pray we find someone who can protect the paint. Then I guess Turner plays the role of Iguodala. Not a bad trade.
Iggy for Kaman only works for a salary dump trade. Sixers value Iggy far more than to do that. I understand the arguments why you want to dump salary but the Sixers get nothing back in return when Kaman is a free agent this time next year. You clear payroll for what? Unless you're telling me a key FA in 2012 will sign here. Otherwise, doesnt make the team better. LAC would have to add a draft pick. And I dont think Sixers value Aminu that much considering we have Thaddeus Young.
Lou Williams, Marreese Speights might be next to go. No point having Lou with Monta here. Jrue Holiday, Monta Ellis, Jodie Meeks and filler guard. Lou deserves minutes and wouldnt get much here behind Jrue and Monta who will play atleast 30mins. Then you factor in having to get Jodie Meeks action as your best 3pt sniper. Lou is odd man out and could help another team.
Philly get the better end of the deal. Lou Will is fools gold, he's always going to be a guy who can get hot every now and again, but pretty much useless otherwise.
Memo to you, Lou Williams is a bench player, a 6th man so to speak. He provides a key role off the bench like many 6th men do. Which is to score. You talk like he is a starting SG getting 35mpg. He's getting anywhere from 22-25mpg to give instant offense. And has helped the Sixers have the best scoring bench in the NBA. Yea pretty much useless otherwise :facepalm

Re: Warriors and 76ers discussing Monta Ellis for Andre Iguodala trade
I think it's a very good trade for both sides.
Philly gets the scorer they need, Golden State gets a lot tougher.
-
Re: Warriors and 76ers discussing Monta Ellis for Andre Iguodala trade
Pretty decent trade for Philly.
Ellis is a much needed backcourt upgrade for them. The kid can score and doesn't need any help, which seems to be a good fit for Philly since that is something they are sorely lacking in. Iguodala hasn't been delivering for them anyway.
For GS it's a little more tricky. I'm not sold on Curry as a first option, and they already were awfully thin on the perimeter. Maybe Iguodala fits really well with where Jackson wants to take the team or something. I'm thinking if this trade goes down they'll probably get Meeks or Williams as a throw in to make it worth it.

Why would the Knicks want to do that when they can get either Howard or Paul next summer?
-
Re: Warriors and 76ers discussing Monta Ellis for Andre Iguodala trade
If this deal goes thriugh, 76ers should trade Evans to let him develop somewhere else and get another decent player still on their rookie contract.
Turner for Cousins/Center, Favors/PF, P.George/SF, G.Monroe/Center or Galinari/SF.
-
Re: Warriors and 76ers discussing Monta Ellis for Andre Iguodala trade
for my own selfish reasons i hope we get Monta
cant have Iverson anymore might as well get the next best thing lol

I do think Iggy is really good and is worth more than that value wise, but I think he's a pretty bad fit for NY right now. NY doesn't need another ball dominant guy, we need shooters and pass first guys. Iggy is a good distributor, slasher and defender, but his lack of jumpshot would make him a bad fit for NY.
As for the Warriors and Sixers, I love this trade for both of them. I think Curry-Iggy is a great backcourt and they should be perfect compliments. Also Iggy's amazing defense should be great under Jackson. I think if GSW can add some depth this off-season (draft and FAs), they could be next years Memphis.

Kyle Korver

Re: Warriors and 76ers discussing Monta Ellis for Andre Iguodala trade
Iggy for Lee makes more sense, since Brand is getting older and could break down at any point. Next year, he could be hurt and totally worthless (a la Michael Redd this year). If not, then Lee and Brand can play alongside and there are two guys in the front court who can score 20 ppg.
If they get Lee, then next year they have leverage to trade away Brand during his expiring contract year.

either guy at center for an extended period of time would be a nightmare

76ers need a guy that can get you 25-30 a night
when we needed huge buckets vs the heat it got ugly(aside from game 3)
