I really liked the first episode. But I've been sucked in on this show in the past in the first couple episodes, only to see the wheels come off.
I like the notion of this profiler lady coming in and already knowing who Dexter is. Looks like she's gonna feed him our "villain" this year. And my guess is Dexter will look into him more, and he won't be what she says he is, and that will wind up somehow allowing him to justify her being a killer and fitting the code, and then he can kill her.
The thing that looks like it'll set this year apart is the stuff they're running Deb through. It's much more realistic and gritty than this show often comes off. Usually it's got that dark side, but it's set off by Masuka being a clown, and Batista and Quinn being cardboard cutouts. With more for Deb to chew on, you get the show's second best actor and second most fleshed out charater with something to work with, and it just felt better than it has even during some of the good seasons of the show. Really good stuff.
Also I'm not opposed to getting more of Batista's sister getting it on. And what the hell is the age gap between those two siblings, 25 years?

the old lady seems interesting but i would be disappointed if she is the main villain... i mean its the last season of the show, dexter has to be the main villain, literally. the whole miami metro after dexter, that would be epic.
and spoiler: from the promo for next episode debra enters the miami metro saying she has a confession to make ( could be a dream )... and we also see that hannah will be back
i would say more like 15... her 30 and batista around 45

I'd take the 45, but I was thinking 50, and I'd put her around 25 tops. But whatever.
I think that promo was for coming up this season on Dexter, not necessarily next episode, so I don't think all that will happen next week.
I think she might be villain that finally gets Dexter, and turns the whole Miami metro onto him. She puts him on someone she wants dead, he questions her motives, and she goes to MM and rats him out, putting Deb in the middle. That's my guess as to how this plays out.
There will be plenty of people for Dex to work out his emotions on as the season rolls along. I assume he'll be taking out that fake fence / hitman within the next few weeks.
There's no doubt that this creepy doctor has known about Dexter since he was a child. Once Harry realized Dexter had homicidal tendencies, he sought help from Capt. Matthews who in turn referred him to the doctor.
Think about it. Why else would Matthews give so much resistance towards LaGuerta? He knew all along.

The lady thinks Dexter still follows Harry's code to the book when she says that dexter won't kill her since she doesn't fit his code. We have recently seen Dexter breaking away from Harry's code over and over. That means that it doesn't matter whether she fits the code or not. She will end up dying, and my guess is that Dexter will get caught killing her and disposing her body. That will take apart Dexter and be the end of the series.
Perhaps the people catching him will be Deb and Quinn. This time, Deb will kill Dexter or at least make sure he takes the fall for it. She is distancing herself from Dexter as far as possible so she has no trouble letting her emotions and feelings for Dexter get in the way next time she catches him trying to kill someone.
Quinn is definitely going to be a big part going forward because we saw the focus shift to him significantly in this first episode. That means his role just grew. I have a feeling Deb will catch Quinn and Jamie/Batista's sister having sex, which will make Deb jealous. Quinn will try to appease Deb by developing feelings for her again and sleeping with her again mid-way through the season.. That will be Dexter's downfall
I have hope for this last season but then again, I had hope last season too and it devolved into the most ridiculous and worst season of Dexter.
We'll see. I liked the premiere and the angle with the doctor knowing about Dexter should be a good one.

The actor who played Isaak had to leave the show for personal reasons which is why that plotline (best one in years) had ended so abruptly and anticlimactic. That is why they had to drag out the Hannah crap.

Hannah being something of a big name, that surprised me some. And I thought the Isaac character came to a reasonable conclusion. The show hasn't been great in years in my min, but I thought last season was a step up from the previous season. And season 5 was good in my opinion mostly because of how good Lithgow was, otherwise structure wise it wasn't great.

That was season 4 and I thought it was great as well. 5 was the Lumen season which I actually liked but seems to be universally hated among Dexter.
ive been searching for the older dexter threads on this forum and it looks like i have always been unhappy with this show but for whatever reason, season 8 and im still watching :oldlol:
kind of meh episode to be honest...
I still like where this is going. I think shedding some of the plot fat will really help this show. Masuka has been limited to where he should, making one cheesey joke an episode. Killing LaGuerta off has also limited the need to spread the show around. Same with getting rid of Dexter's step kids.
So the show is really running around Dex, Deb, Quinn, and the Lady, and the mystery killer. Some shows really work well bouncing around, but as much as I like this show, it just doesn't have the man power to do it.
Also, in two episodes this show has taken on a much much darker tone than we've seen in a while on this series. Dex conflicted with Deb really has a felt darker. And Deb is obviously in a really dark place, and is really killing it for a character who had sort of become a potty mouthe tough chick cliche.
How weird do you think it is for those two to be doing those scenes where she has to say how she wanted the opposite of hating him when they were married once and by all accounts split up due to his infidelity?
I have to say, my very first instinct upon seeing the video of the guy getting shot was that the old lady was the shooter. Although there's no way she could get him onto that hook. Although those sort of inconsistencies don't mean much in this show.
Im liking this season so far, i think the psychiatrist is great angle that can played a multitude of ways, from the 2 episodes this is what I believe so far( right or wrong):
-Matthews knows Dexter has been a killer the whole time being Harry's best friend, he just doesn't give a care cause he has been killing "bad guys"
- The female psychiatrist is the real killer taking peoples parts of their brains, I think she trying to set up all her old clients one against each other, or Dexter, but she is definitely up to more
-Hopefully Debra dies, I appreciated El Sapo whipping her a$$.
- They keep referencing back to season 2, since this is last season I would like them to incorporate characters from past seasons, there are more people other than Deb and psychiatrist that know about Dexter such as Lumen, The trinity Killers whole family, bring all the cards out
Man Deb needs to gain some weight. She got thrown the f*ck around like a rag doll by El Sapo.
Well, hopefully now that my future wife is back in the picture hopefully the pace will step up.
Looking forward to the ending despite the beggining of the season being pretty boring..
I can see that kid killing Dexter when he finds out Dex violated his own code.
yeah i think dex dying in the end isnt out of question
i know breaking bad is the big deal right now, but come on people you cant tell me you gave up on this show with one season to go... 4 more episodes to be exact...
yesterday's episode was pretty good... who do you think killed cassie and who killed the kid/who is the brain surgeon? what happens with hannah?
This season has been pretty bad. It has some interesting individual elements like Deb's breakdown, Dr. Vogel and Hannah (great character) coming back but it just never comes together well. It's totally unfocused with very little suspense. Quinn (another great character) has been totally wasted. Batista is just window-dressing. And the forcing of a side-story on Masuka... oh god, how friggin' horrible has that been?
I don't agree that it has been horrible, but it has not been great. I am enjoying this more than the Prado season. I do agree that this season is kind of scrambled all over the place though. Didn't like Zach so I am glad he is gone. Hopefully the plot starts thickening and picking up.
Dexter has been on decline since the finale of season 4.. it has reached the point where this season its bad. Its bordering on intolerable. Everything about it is pedestrian and an uninteresting mess.
I've liked this season probably more than last to be honest. It's been a little more internalized for Dexter, which I've liked. And as much as people are saying it's unfocused, I actually feel like they've trimmed a lot of the fat. No more Laguerta. No real massive bad guy to focus on. And Batista being window dressing has actually helped that character. The more he has to do the worse it is usually. And I did like it better before Masuka got the daughter storyline jammed on us. Although I did like seeing her waitressing topless.
It's allowed them to focus on Dex and Deb for long stretches, which helped. And then more to Dr. Vogel.
I think the brain surgeon is most likely Dr. Vogel herself at this point. Although I could see somehow Quinn breaking bad to a degree and killing Zach, then making it look like The Brain Surgeon, although I'm sure I wouldn't like that much, so to me it's gotta be Vogel.
Also, for what it's worth, last night's True Blood, which has been horrible, like truely horrible the way Zen is saying this is, was probably the best single episode the series has had since midway through season two. It was still horrid in it's own way for sure, and had some really terrible spots (Warlo's fantasy world was among the worst things ever put on celluloid), but the pacing bouncing between characters, having the town drawn back together. And hitting on a social metaphor with the Hep V crisis, was the cleverest the show has been probably since season one.
Is it supposed to be hinted at that Quinn tried to frame Zach? If that's the case, I am kind of confused because no way he goes far enough to kill her.
dam... I wonder who the real Brain Surgeon is. I bet it's Cassie's boyfriend. Kind of fits the story so far.
He (the Brain Surgeon) met Cassie and decided to leave his murderous/psychopathic life behind and be with her, until she died and leaves him very saddened. Then after Quinn talks with him and shows him a picture of Zach, he decides to go back to his old ways.

High point of the season. I was hoping we'd see a bit more Jaime too. In the naked way, of course. Not character-wise.

i was disappointed with this episode though, second sex scene with hannah and still no nipples shown

Totally agree. I really enjoyed the shadowy, breathy scene she had early in the season, in spite of so much being hidden, but they never followed through after that.

SPOILER!!!! who is the brain surgeon? white text
The brain surgeon is that girl's ( Dexter's neighbor) boyfriend......Issac Suxton
i misread the above post :facepalm
I've read the spoilers for the rest of the season, and it kinda sucks tbh.
If this wasn't a final season, I would say it's been a good season, but since it is, this shit is bad.

Also, using "Make Your Own Kind of Music" as kind of a theme song for the killer is odd because it instantly takes me back to Desmond in the hatch.
Bring back doakes!!!! Motha.f.ucka! !!!!

Dexter finna kill himself to avoid rule number one of the code....don't get caught

Qwi you don't like much of anything. you're like the toughest critic to win over. Not that I disagree with this season being terrible.
This season needs to hurry up and end already. I want to see dexter Fate. Does he die? Does he continue? What? Will the creepy doctor say IM YOU'RE REAL MOTHER! Me and Harry had relations why do you think Deb gets wet for you? You're not really brother and sister. Or she is really a killer too. Meh
I don't know which show was worst true dud or suxter.
What the **** GOBB? Dexter and Deb are not really brother and sister. Everybody knows this already.
But yeah, the show's been somewhat painful to watch this season. I agree that it's been pretty much downhill since s4, but its one of those shows that is good enough to watch on the strength of its core characters even if the directors and writers leave something to be desired.

I don't deny it. But put me into this thread durings seasons 1, 2 or 4 and I'd be sporting a semi about how amazing the show is. This is kind of the end of the gradual drop-off after that. It happens to all shows that drag on for this long.

Agreed. And where did you get your username from? I hate having to type it. That is one username I'll always butch even after I look at it. "Qwi"

Qwyjibo is a word Bart Simpson plays in scrabble with his parents. Qwyjibo: A large bald, fat, north american ape ... at which point Homer chokes him. IIRC.
