4th-highest ranking House Democrat gets demolished

A 28-year-old Latina absolutely SPANKED 10-term NY incumbent Joe Crowley (candidate for next Speaker of the House) tonight. She's a far-left social democrat/dem socialist. Biggest upset yet, but no one paying attention should be surprised.

"B-b-b-but move to the center, doe!"

Turnout = Dems win. Enthusiasm = turnout. This is how you approach the national election to prevent Trump from winning. Or you can run Joe Biden or Kamala Harris and see how that goes. Your move, establishment.

What do you expect? Everyone he endorses (or is similar to him) goes up against all that corporate cash, a 50% success rate for local candidates without name recognition would be considered absurd for him.

Now Ben Jealous is looking to give the Bern Fam another W... it's happening.

Thing is, there's not much to speak of that the center offers Dems or Reps. These guys get absolutely cucked routinely with virtually no crossover appeal. If your platform is Republican-lite, your base won't care enough to canvas and vote. It just won't.

Nationwide for 2020, left-wing is the answer (maybe Bernie, but it might not need to be), and then you can really use the bully pulpit of the presidency to keep the train moving. The ideas that they pitch benefit almost everyone in America if they were actually made law; people will always outnumber corporations if they're invested enough. If the Dems actually had energy behind an economic agenda and scaled back the identity politics rhetoric (without abandoning it altogether), you really could compete well in a ton of districts.

Sometimes you have to run a moderate Conor Lamb style Dem, but I don't know if that will be the case for long. The message of being beholden to people instead of donors... that alone is extremely powerful and is the best hope. It really isn't as unrealistic to dethrone big money as people paint it to be. It may be unlikely, but it is possible.

The manufacturing states will be key again for 2020, you can't have brazen outsourcers leading the charge unless you want to win the popular vote and still lose, again.

No I know his ratio isn't great to this point.

When I said "nationwide" I was referring specifically to the presidential election. I think you need someone willing to question these "free trade" agreements if you're gonna snatch back the Rust Belt, which you need in order to win the electoral college.

And you see Trump starting literal trade wars to show his fake loyalty to them. Bernie absolutely took Hillary to task in those states in the primaries, several of which are traditionally blue states. That element to the next election can't be understated, given the fact that 30 or so states are essentially determined from the beginning.

The new Democratic Party is taking shape.

LOL, they'll never win another election again.

dems will win in 2020 regardless. people will come out in masses against trump and it's as simple as that imo. traditional conservatives will vote against the guy. trump loses more supporters than he gains by the month, and by the time 2020 hits i think it'll be a historic landslide. he will always have that die hard 30% that supports him, though. shit, trump could rape their children and they'd still support him.

This

In an aggregate of polls done monthly since he became POTUS, he's never been up over 50% in approval ratings. Another thing, ever since he came to power, the GOP has lost every single special election that has been taken place. All he has done is energize the opposition, Paul Ryan isn't stupid, nor all the GOP congress members that see a yuuuge blue wave coming that they are retiring and outright jumping off the sinking ship.

I don't doubt that the Dems can ride the wave of anti-Trumpism to wins this fall in 2020. Not a lock, but odds are good.

The key is being able to build a sustainable model that will win you elections moving forward when there's no boogeyman Trump who energizes even people who don't pay much attention to politics. Trump hate on its own will only impact votes short-term.

This, and also it's a dumb truism but candidates win elections not policies. The thing that Ocasio Cortez and Conor Lamb have in common is that they are young, energetic, and charismatic. I think Bernie did build a pretty powerful movement but he needs to get out of that movements way now. He's too old and has too much baggage at this point. Congress and the leadership of this country needs to get younger.

And it's as simple as that huh?? LOL what a joke.

In order to beat Trump, the Dems are going to have to use something else against him other than his less than Presidential rhetoric. But where did that get him? He still trounced Hillary by being who he is.

It's going to be hard to beat the man when the economy is on the rise, jobless claims are on the decline, North Korea has agreed to denuclearize, taxes were cut, etc, etc.

Seriously, what will the Dems have to use against him? The fact that he calls people names?? Laughable. And delusional on your guys' part.
