Your favorite Outkast album?
Mine would be Aquemini. So many songs in this album that are too good. All of the songs are great in this album. Stankonia is good too, but Aquemini is better. I still have never gotten a chance to listen to the first 2 albums that Outkast released. I plan on getting ATLiens today.
-
Re: Your favorite Outkast album?
ATliens is a great album...Aquemini definitely is their best though.
-
Re: Your favorite Outkast album?
atliens is my fave but i cant be mad if people choose aquemini
stankonia is my least fave. still the greatest rap group ever. guys dropped classic after classic at a steady level. but hey...im biased, theyre my favorite rap act.
-
Re: Your favorite Outkast album?
wait...you havent heard atliens before gencbiba? curious to hear what you think about it. the production and raps on there are on some whole other level. listen to wailin a few times. sick sick sick

Re: Your favorite Outkast album?
From The Baduizm Thread:
Actually she was not the reason for Dre's. Dre was already out there. He and the other members of The Dundgeon Family were always into Egyptology and the Occult. A lot of the iconagraphy that appears on OutKast records is influenced by the teachings of Noble Drew Ali and the MoSci Temple.
This is been a Dasher PSA.
agreed. although badu queered common and by the looks of it qtip and william hit it too

Re: Your favorite Outkast album?
I love Outkast. They're one of the few rap artists that I can actually say I am a genuine fan of. I have owned all of their albums up until after Stankonia. My rankings of my favorites would be:
1. ATLiens
2. Aquemini
3. Southernplayalistic
4. Stankonia
5. Speakerboxxx/Love Below

never been a fan. too soft for me. not a knock, just an opinion.
Love Below isn't THAT bad.
You're right, it's not. I actually enjoyed most of Love Below. "Prototype" and "She Lives in my Lap" are probably my two faves. The reason I ranked it that low is because I considered Speakerboxx and L.B. as one album for the ranking. I didn't like Speakerboxx at all, and I was comparing them to the previous Outkast albums which, IMO, blow them away.

Re: Your favorite Outkast album?
Atliens is no doubt my favourite. It had such a moody, dark, but at the same time uplifting spiritual vibe to it. That contrasting mix made it such an amazing album. Thematically speaking, its one of the best hip hop albums ever. The Alien theme was present throughout the whole album and the production matched it. You could almost feel yourself riding with Dre and Big Boi in the Atlanta backwoods. You just don't get a lot of albums like this anymore.
Aquemini was great though, it just doesn't have the replay value of Atliens to me. Which I still bump to this day.

Re: Your favorite Outkast album?
can't choose between southerplayalistic, ATLiens, and aquemini but i think i'm leaning towards aquemini. btw i LOVED stankonia and speakerboxx/love below, but haven't heard idlewild yet.

Re: Your favorite Outkast album?
Aquemini or ATLiens for me no question. Aquemini is more of a masterpiece I suppose, so many styles and so f*cking solid top to bottom. ATLiens is just a sick "real hip hop" album that is also relentless from start to finish. two of my favorite albums of all time certainly and nothing they've done since (or southernplayaistic...) has touched them.

swap 'atliens'/'aquemini' and you have my list. as much as i love 'atliens', 'aquemini' comes out on top. just too many great tracks/verses/features on it. plus, the production is on another planet.
@ hito - don't bother w/ 'idlewild'. i was truly disappointed with that project. it's the one 'kast joint that i have actively disliked and refuse to listen to again.

Idlewild is not bad, but not great by any stretch.
Stankonia
Aquimini
Speakerboxxx/The Love Below
ATLiens
Southernplayalistcadillaccfunkymuzik

Idlewild
Anyone heard "Class of 3000"

Re: Your favorite Outkast album?
mystikal easily had the best verse on Neck of Da Woods and raekwon had the best verse on Skew It on the Bar B
outkast is another one of those "we rap about more than just gangster stuff so the underground overrates us like whoa" acts, similar to gza and common.
thats my word.
-
Re: Your favorite Outkast album?
ATLiens.
Stankonia.
Aquemini.
Southernplayalistcadillaccfunkymuzik.
Simply ATLiens was my favorite. My favorite individual songs came from Stankonia... and I didnt think Aquemini deserved to be in 4th. I don't look at Southernplaya as a "last" of anything though haha.

how is the underground overrating outkast? and common for that matter? they're up there with the most popular mainstream acts, which causes (dumb) underground fans to hate them.

their music just isnt exciting. their subject matter is boring, they lack charisma (common and gza especially) and their lyrical talent isnt even half of what people pretend it is. they're just dull and boring and geeky.

I was flipping channels today and saw Chingy (remember that kid?) on MTV2 answering music trivia questions. One of the questions was "name 3 Outkast albums." Dude couldn't do it. He lost all credibility (which wasn't much) he had.

go for southernplayalistic... it has a much more 'traditional' hip-hop sound to it. it's probably the most 'traditional' their sound has ever been.

Re: Your favorite Outkast album?
I see. You're right. What do you think of their last two albums? I read somewhere that big boi's flow has changed a lot since he started.
'speakerboxxx/love below' is a solid album. 'idlewild' isn't great (or even good), but i don't really count it as an official 'kast album. big boi's flow has changed a little, but not as much as his lyricism. nowadays he's far more proficient than he was back in the day. hell, he out-wrote 3stacks (IMO) in 'royal flush' (a feat which he'd never previously achieved).
-
Re: Your favorite Outkast album?
I really liked Love Below. Kinda different and jazzy, a really fun listen. Haven't tried out Speakerboxxx yet, although I've always been higher on Dre than BB.
-
Re: Your favorite Outkast album?
Gotta go with ATLiens overall, but their first four albums are all basically flawless. Speakerboxxx/Love Below have some great material but they're really hit and miss. Idlewild is great when it's the four songs where it's actually Dre and Big Boi rapping together, but other than that it's very pachy.
I'm excited for Big Boi's solo album that's going to drop sometime in Feb/March, the single "Royal Flush" is sick as hell. It's got Andre (actually rapping for a change) and Raekwon on it, so it's basically an Outkast song featuring Rae, which is pretty hard to go wrong with. Andre KILLS his verse.

they do get a lot of love from hiphop fans but it's just that loads of hiphop fans like to go against the stream whatever it takes. as soon as someone becomes succesful, even if they do it 100% their owen way, they'll start hating it. hiphop fans always want to be underground etc. the only way you'll get all of them to like a certain artist is if the artist dies.
big l suddenly became everbody's favorite rapper and jdilla suddenly changed their lives. bull**** since 90% of them never heard ofbig l before he died and most of them were on premiers dick before they hopped on jdilla's dead weener.

people do tend to overrate him now. however, having said that, to me he's top 10 all time.
the group i despise the most is the nu-dilla stans who haven't heard anything beyond 'donuts', but read about his passing on pitchfork media and adopt him as their new favourite artist.

Well, when Outkast was on top, there really was no "underground". Underground was a term that evolved around 2000 roughly, once rap really went commercial around the late 90's (1997 to be exact IMO).

ATliens or Aquemini
Fav track is 13th Floor / Growing Old

Aquemini, ATliens, and 3 other good ones.

Southernplaya... is straight up disrespected 'round these parts. Their best album (by far) and a top 10 hip hop album of all time.

I'd give Aquemini the edge, but it annoys me how many skits are on that album.
