Re: Where Americans are moving to. Guess what state has 3 of the top 5?
Texas is the greatest state.
There's too many free loading hippie libs in Austin, though.

Re: Where Americans are moving to. Guess what state has 3 of the top 5?
My friend and his wife moved out of Houston to Oregon two weeks ago though :lol

Re: Where Americans are moving to. Guess what state has 3 of the top 5?
best economy in the country, and most affordable place to live...can't tell you how many Cali people I know who say they would never go back...and Floridians
I have mentioned this before but the great economy here has also caused a massive influx of strippers who can't make money in Cali or Florida or even Nevada...:lol I'm not kidding either, Dallas is flooded with strippers from all over the country.

Re: Where Americans are moving to. Guess what state has 3 of the top 5?
Don't care how bad Cali gets, i'd never leave it for Texas of all places. I just can't shake that the racism is much more open there. Don't they still lynch people? Can't go any place where white people walk around with guns and whose bloodline is still reach with people who support segregation.

Cali is just as racist, probably more...I can remember seeing an article on racism by state and Cali was very high, I think #1 on the list even.

Oh you are right, Cali is definitely racist and one of the most conservative states. But i think you're thinking of diversity or how segregated things are, not racism. But Cali is the one place that has a piece of every other place. You don't have to be from Cali to find a place in Cali that makes you feel at home.
I'm sure its mostly ignorance though when i feel like Texas is a spooky place where everyone is a little too honest about their dislike for other races.

If you literally picture it as a place where lynchings happen :lol and we all tote around guns like the Wild West, then YES that is ignorance
Dallas is the 5th largest city in the country...and as you can see from the OP, it is composed of millions of people from all over.
I believe 53% of the Texas population today is made up of people that were not born in Texas...last I remember

have you ever been to dallas, houston, or austin? you do realize we have a very diverse community, right?

Re: Where Americans are moving to. Guess what state has 3 of the top 5?
It's hilarious how people perceive Texas sometimes. I had a girlfriend who visited some relatives and her little cousin asked her if she they had makeup in her village in Texas, like we were all living in log cabins and riding horses on the frontier :lol

When slandering another state for its ignorance, you may want to avoid making stupid mistakes of your own.

Yeah, typos never occur on the internet.
I told myself i'd never move to any state that that consistently votes republican. Maybe long ago a republican vote didn't mean you were racist, but it definitely means that today (or at the least just ignorant), unless of course 99% of the population in Texas are millionaires. But i doubt that, so why are a bunch of middle and poor people consistently voting for republicans.
CA has plenty racism and ignorance of its own, but i can't imagine its on Texas' level. Isn't Texas the place where they are (or were) voting to stop teaching evolution in schools. I do remember there being something about them editing textbooks or something of that nature.

Austin, H town, SA, and Dallas voted for Obama. Austin is probably the most lib city in the US.

Texas is definitely one of the best states I've been to. Very diverse, not sure what Loneshot means.
-
Re: Where Americans are moving to. Guess what state has 3 of the top 5?
how people vote in a state would be VERY far down the list of reasons to move somewhere for me...ignorance exists in all states
the economy, weather, a dozen other things, etc >>>>>> how 60% of the state votes

It's racist not to favor minorities....Sure thing

Re: Where Americans are moving to. Guess what state has 3 of the top 5?
I'm sure much of my sentiment is ignorant, i never disputed that. I haven't lived there, but i have family that does, and most of my family that lives in CA came from Texas.
But when i read news online of how they actively pursue editing textbooks to favor republican principals or what the church wants taught, that is definitely not something that makes me think its a go-to place to raise a family.
I think how the majority of a state votes is a pretty good indicator of how a majority of the people think. Its not really difficult to understand. If a candidate stands for bunch of things and reflects certain characteristics that may be anti-anyone not white or rich, and the majority of a state votes in favor of that person, maybe as a non-white and not rich person, i don't want to move to some place whose most likely to vote for policies that don't favor me.

like longhornfan said (good buddha, i can't believe i'm agreeing with him) austin, dallas, houston, and san antonio all voted for obama. unless you wanna move out to the boonies, then it's very doubtful that you will be surrounded by right wing zealots.
-
Re: Where Americans are moving to. Guess what state has 3 of the top 5?
Even if you were surrounded by right wingers, what are you so scared of?...you think they will be hanging blacks in their front lawns during the day or something? Are you not aware that there are Christians that are perfectly friendly and normal?
I don't even really know my neighbors or who they voted for, and I really don't care
For all I know everyone around me worships Satan at night...and that is fine with me, I don't give a fck...it doesn't have any impact on me.

Re: Where Americans are moving to. Guess what state has 3 of the top 5?

I can get along with both just fine most of the time

Maybe there was a time when it didn't matter, but how anyone can keep a friend who consistently votes republican in this day and age where they don't even attempt to hide their racism and extremism, that is beyond me. If the majority of Texans support candidates of this nature, why would i want to live there?
I don't imagine Texas to be a cowboy slinging klan rally, but if they consistently support the racist, the war mongers, and those seeking to alter public education to favor the right and religious, then whether they have diverse cities and a good economy means little in the grand scheme.
-

Wow! Total mindblow. Three of the five are in the biggest state this side of Canada!

so if you lost your job in Cali, and couldn't afford to support your family, and were offered a high paying job in Dallas, you would refuse to go because it is a "red state" ?

Look for a good neighborhood. You are right though, the public education here sucks a fat one though. There are plenty of racists, but they are fairly easy to ignore.

Texas is above national average in terms of public education...
and Texas has great colleges as well

California is a welfare state and is falling apart. My family has been considering leaving the State for a couple years now. We are looking at Washington, Colorado, and Texas.

Used to live in Dallas area, it's nice.
Even better was Austin when I visited. Scenic land, culture, hot college girls from University of Texas, good food, great weather.
I would live there.
I'd consider Miami, too.

Re: Where Americans are moving to. Guess what state has 3 of the top 5?
I could never live in cities that big, but I've heard awesome things about Houston and would love to go the Livestock Show & Rodeo one year. Looks like a blast. Same with Dallas and SA, never heard anyone who has been there say a bad word about them. I'm in the process of getting my visa for work and if it goes through, I'd be down in Odessa area, so it would be cool to check these cities out on my days off.
