☆Official Pau Gasol Thread: Pau Gasol Appreciation Thread
Given that Kobe will be out to start the season, Dwight's exit making him the featured big on our team, and the fact that he is a great and willing passer surrounded by good shooters this year, I think he has a legitimate shot of having an MVP season this year.

0% MVP but def poised for a big comeback year. Healthy and playing his natural role. He is going to have the ball ran through him, just how he likes it.

I think most of us would be happy with an "All Star" level season.
there's a few guys in his way of winning an MVP award

It's really difficult to run the offense through Gasol in Antoni's jack'em up from the perimeter small ball system in fact Gasol has bought into his scheme by not demanding the ball in the post enough maybe once or twice a game. It's apparent how Pau is now accustomed to chucking up majority of his shots from the perimeter.
I don't know if it's all on Antoni orchestrating or the fact Gasol has become Gasoft coz he's not looking like the old Pau during the championship years! Reasonably understanding that last year because of Howard's presence in the post but what's his excuse for not demanding the ball in the post this year? I'm convinced all Antoni can mustard is a outside jack'em up perimeter game and a no post low post during non-existence inside game.Of course Antoni hasn't proven yet nor will he anytime soon:sleeping :sleeping that he will start using the D that's why it's still missing in his name.

The Lakers have a scheduled off day Monday with their next game not coming until Friday in Sacramento but Gasol said he will use the free day to have his ankle examined.

what he is dealing with is his own balls....
instead of going to the post he was jacking up 12-18ft jumpers....

Screw it. They've pretty much trade everyone else in the roster, including my Lammy & DFish :( Might as well trade Pau now. Damn, was I wrong about not wanting for the Lakers to sign Josh Smith, better than Pau.
Bye Pau.

What would you think of our ownership if we gave him a new contract for 3 years at $15 mil per year?

I dont think it will happen. Management & all other FO's see what we see. they got jumpstarted on this by almost dealing him 2 years back.
they will either trade him @ deadline and try to get a piece on cheaper deal or letting him. I can see them valuing him @5-8mil
what u think? how much does he gets paid in the FA?
I would honestly let him walk...as his prime days are over and he is breaking down

I wouldn't pay him a dime more than $5 million per year for 2 years.....and only that much if we have a new coach. His style of play doesn't fit with what 'Antoni wants him to do....so if he's still the coach we have to trade him or let him walk. He hasn't earned his money in years.
-
Re: Laker News: Pau Gasol dealing with ankle sprain
I think Pau will get 5-8 million per season. I really don't see the Pistons trading Stuckey & CV for him either. Stuckey has been very good for the Pistons this season. I think there's a good chance that he resigns with the Pistons this offseason. The last thing the Pistons need is another big man too.

Forget About offense gor a sec...dude doesnt even try to pretend to play any kind of defense..nor goes for rebounds... Almost all his rebounds come to him...
Scrub Amir johnson sh!tted on him last night...nene did the same... There was another guy who cored 30 on him...dont remember his name
I would honestly trade him and get something insted of letting him walk...
If Gay can net vazguez & patrick paterson... Gasol can net u atleast something more

There are plenty of terrible contracts going around, Im sure they can get something for him but I would prefer the cap and flexibility than getting a mid level player with longer contract.

And there goes your argument. A 19 mil dollar player who don't any defense and yet you think another team would give up players better than Vasquez and Patterson?

I'm not going to bash anyone's trade ideas......remember we got Pau for Kwame.....and the truth is that if anyone had suggested that possibility at the time we all would've laughed that person off the board :oldlol: :oldlol:
Pau Expirer > Kwame Expirer

That was a very good deal for Memphis and has always made sense to me. Not only did they get an expirer in Kwame, but they got a Gasol of their own too. So in the end they ended up with a front line of Randolph and Marc Gasol, which has been one of the best in the NBA. In no way do I think the Lakers ripped off the Grizzlies in that deal and I will defend it to this day. I think the Lakers got the immediate benefit of the deal, but in the long term it was better for the Grizzlies.

Lol forget about defense... Rudy Gay couldnt play on offense... Ball stuck in his hands pretty bad...
If he can be traded so can Pau... I just dont want them to get any non expiring contracts ...unless its Rondo which is pipe dream

At the time, Marc Gasol was anything but highly regarded.....I always thought he would develop and posted on here BEFORE the draft that I thought the Lakers should get him....in fact the 2 guys I wanted who were available were Aaron Brooks and Marc. The Memphis deal looks great now but at the time was criticized by at least 99% of those giving opinions. I was pissed that we gave up Marc in the deal......Memphis wanted Sun Yue :facepalm :facepalm :facepalm

Re: Laker News: Pau Gasol dealing with ankle sprain
I don't know Marc personally, but, I don't think he wanted to be anyone's backup neither does Bynum. They had to let go of someone & I think Jerry Buss or whoever saw that coming & just didn't wanna deal with it.

thats a good dilemma to have. At that point Marc would have had proven his worth and we could have got something good in return. either for him or bynum

I like Pau but im resolved in trading him, but only if it helps the Lakers and not just plainly getting rid of him.
Memphis seems to be not getting better, right now, out of playoff spot. If they continue to hover around 10th spot or worse, they might be open to trade Randolph. The Pau playing with his brother might do wonders for him.
But Zach has a player option next year.:(
Another option is Carlos Boozer who is also an expirer.
Or a Marion/Dalebert combo, but why would Dallas do it when they are doing ok. Then again a smart coach like Rick Carlisle would know how to maximize Pau's abilities.

I almost agreed everything u said till the last sentence...
Looks like he has checked out on this team... U can see that on the defensive end..doesnt even try...thats the worst part..:look what nene, amir johnson and today marcus morris did to him....
He is not playing with any heart...

Re: Laker News: Pau Gasol dealing with ankle sprain
I am not up for trading Pau. Yes, I know I said trade him for whoever in that other thread, but I was just really disappointed in him at that time. For a guy like him, I think he should have a reality check & accept the FACTS that he should not be the 2nd scoring option anymore & he should be considering signing with the Lakers via MLE. He has become the liability on the defensive end, & that has to change if he wants to get that max contract, but I doubt it's nothing more than 8 or 9 mil. I just really can't believe Pau has turned into this type of player. Amir Johnson dropped 25+ or 30+ on him the other night, :(
Take a lesser role, 3rd to 5th scoring option (7 or 8ppg), & MLE. & that's only of course if Xavier Henry or whoever continues to step up their game, or if the Lakers signs anyone big during the off-season, & then Pau takes that lesser role.

I would take that mle and give to amir johnson or an upcoming player...then this guy
Bucks want to trade larry sanders... Maybe we can trade for him i know he just signed for 44/4 yrs but he would be the defensive anchor

Re: Laker News: Pau Gasol dealing with ankle sprain
Lol. I'll still take Pau over them. You can't disregard his chemistry with Kobe, despite Kobe's boneheaded plays last night -- them two were great with the screen & roll/give & go last night. Pau is Pau, you can't replace him with Larry Sanders & expect things to get better.
I think the Lakers are back of needing a solid PG, don't get me wrong, I like Steve Blake, he's been great this season, but the Lakers need a veteran PG like a 31 year old Billups (He's not 31, but just trying to make a point).
Damn, I don't care what yall say ... I miss Fisher. :(
