First of all its Battier not Battie
Second of all the Rockets will never start Steve Novak at C barring an injury to Yao and Dikembe.

Another thing, the Rockets are a team that set up their offense out of the half court. They are also one of the best defensive teams in the league. They will force the Suns out their game not play the Suns' game.

Another thing is if you know anything about JVG, he likes consistency and will not throw different starting lineups out there every night.

C Yao/Dikembe
PF Shane Battier/Juwan Howard/Novak
SF T-mac/Shane Battier /Novak
SG Kirk Snyder/Luther Head/V Span/Sura
PG Rafer Alston/Luther Head/John Lucas 3/V Span

This starting lineup although small in the front court allows us to use our speed to penetrate once our half court offense is set!

I don't see Sura that much if any this yr. I think he's closer to retiring than helping the by being any type of impact player for them. They also have Chuck Hayes who is a scrappy rebounder and another body at the 4. And still feel that Luther Head is too small at the 2.

:O

That was the most ridiculous lineup for each opponent in all human existence........Steve Novak Center??? Are you on crack??

RSSMOOTH 07-27-2006 08:48 PM

Thanks Quick Surfin! This guy is an idiot.

I am pretty sure the San Antonio Spurs don't run very often, and they DISMANTLED the SUNS in the playoffs. First of all Amare will foul out of the game if he tries to defend Yao. Yao will easily drop 30 on them everytime they play! Novak will make them pay on the 3 point line if they double Yao or T-mac. Novak is not going to play inside!
Your a fuc*ing idiot! You don't know basketball so shut up!
Oh yeah the Miami Heat don't run and they also whooped up on the running Mavs.

Against bigger teams (like Miami):

C: Yao / Motumbo
PF: Battier / Howard
SF: McGrady / Battier
SG: Snyder / Head
PG: Alston / Sura / Lucas

Against quicker teams (Like Suns):

C: Battier / Novak
PF: McGrady / Battier
SF: Snyder / McGrady
SG: Head / Snyder
PG: Alston / Sura / Lucas

Against more PF based teams (like Spurs):

C: Yao / Motumbo
PF: Howard / Novac
SF: Battier / McGrady
SG: Mcgrady / Snyder / Head
PG: ALston / Lucas / Sura

Against more agile teams (like Mavs):

C: Yao
PF: Battier
SF: McGrady
SG: Snyder
PG: Alston

so...you're suggessting that we not play some one who is, at worst our second best player. Doesn't seem all that reasonable.

the starting lineups look promising.... we have every piece of the puzzle.....yet, im still unsure how we are goin to go. i mean on paper we have a fairly strong team. but anyone performing not up to scratch or any injury could mess up the team really badly.

True, and most coaches don't.

kangaroostew 07-31-2006 07:47 PM

You are right about JVG. The big problem is not starting 5, but how to log 240 quality minutes. For example,

PG Alston 24-32 marginal starting minutes Head & Lucas 16-24 weak bench minutes
SG TMac 16 STRONG starter minutes Snyder 32 Very Good Minutes
SF Battier 32 Very Good starter minutes Novak 8 ok Min TMac 8 Massive Minutes
PF Howard 24 Weak starter minutes Hayes 12 Good Minutes Tmac 12 Excellent minutes
C Yao 32 Excellent minutes *** 8 Good Minutes ?????? 8 mystery minutes

Anything subject to change, but they still need a backup 4/5 just to log 240 legit minutes. I am not saying they will go with TMac at the PF like I know something, but he did shut down Dirk two years ago. Yao's feet will not go more than 32 per game on a regular basis, and few players play effectively for more than 32 per game. TMac can go 36, but may have to move inside to cut the movement he has to make with his bad back.

They must have center help, and they did not sign Battier and Snyder just to wait for TMac to go down, again. All 3 of these guys must get minutes, and Novak is Bull Jr. He will get a few minutes to rain 3s each game.

So far, the Rockets have eaten their exemption $$ and looked damned stupid doing it. They have very little to trade to get help at PG or C/PF. Any ideas what they do next?

well i guess they hope that john lucas will be the help at PG and Battier will be the PF( in some situations)....but both are iffy and i guess all we can do is wait and see whether it pays off

PG - Alston
SG - T-Mac
SF - Battier
PF - Howard
C - Yao

Now thats the best possible starting lineup

and no love at all for chuck hayes? LOL the man rebounds better then everyone else on the team (including yao) 5.6 rpg at around 15 mpg ...he was like 3rd in the nation with like 16.3 rp48, the only concurn for him was lack of consistensy...but now in the rebok summer lueage hes avg.over 11 rpg...yea he has no offence of game but is more offence really what houston really needs?...he will get his minutes next year
