Duane Casey lets slip - Jeff Balir G&M

Perhaps the best news of the night was a line slipped in by Casey, who said the organization had a “plan in place for the centre position,” that involved free agents.

So who ??
Pryzbilla
Oden
Yao
Chandler (no chance)

Other on the list I cant see ?

Not quite an FA but I will take it in a heart beat :

Chris Kaman for Andreas Bargnani.

Clearly Val is a keeper for the longer term.

The comment above seems to preclude moving Val - they want him off roster for a year or two in euroball and a FA (3 year contract??) to groom him.

Perhaps the FA is Rasho

Actually bit of a surprise given Casey and BC sort of have a "win more mandate" during the next 3 years.

Thing is at the center we are primarily playing Amir, Reggie and Soly... and I dont think that is in the cards.

:confusedshrug:

I dunno - two articles - two interviews suggest a different sort of player up the middle and in a guard position.

We got cap space for "maybe 1" depending on the CBA depending on the size of the contract.

Even loosing Evans Weems and Barbosa (to Brazil) leaves us $35MM in spending with Derozans first option year coming up... not much room.

Frankly I dont see the comparison but aside from that I dont think this pick is a commitment to Barges at the 4.

Damn I literally was posting this slip last night with my phone when i hit a wrong button and erased the whole damn thing and wanted to get back into it in the morning. I noticed particularly when Casey was talking about what position Val could play, it was as if Bargnani was already gone (especially when he said we could acquire a banging 5 and slot him in at 4). Also although Colangelo did mention the idea of Val and Bargs playing together it was with the caveat that free agent signings and trades are yet to be made.

Fingers crossed things are as they seem.

Is "None of the above" an option? Bad year to try and plug the 5 hole in free agency IMO. Not to mention in general you have to way overpay bigs and at this stage I don't see the point for just a stop-gap until Val matures. trade Bargs for a young 3 and put anyone with a pulse at the 5. He can be our new tank commander.

Your not voting in a Canadian election ya know

I actually like Chandler and Nene but they are likely the two most "untouchable"

Kaman is not on the list but is an FA in 2012 could also be an option. Given the way the Clippers manage players you could see them moving Kaman for something in return that might be "slightly longer term" but with more "cost certainty"

A lot of NBA guys have very strange opinions on some of the draftees' positions IMO. You don't need to have heavily studied Val's game to know that his skill level is not that of an NBA 4 (the Gasol comparison by JVG IIRC was way off base (even though he's usually on the money).

Same with Derrick Williams, I just can't see him playing the small forward position competently on defense (other than LeBron, how many guys that size can do it?) yet a lot of people have him slotted there.

Completely agree and well said. :applause:
If we're going to be bad next year (which I want us to be), then you might as well be bad for cheap and save that money for more important things like Derozan.
