When I talk about a vet big I talk about someone who is clearly better than Al and Perk and could possibly be seen as an All-Star. Someone who could come in and immediately help PP and this team contend. Someone like Jermaine O'Neal/KG. If we can't get someone on an All-Star level then there's really no point in adding a vet big man.

Snoopy 06-13-2006 06:06 PM

i concur

funky2dope 06-14-2006 09:53 PM

What about someone like Jamal Magloire?

Snoopy 06-15-2006 06:33 PM

magloire would be nice, but it would be sick if we could get him without trading our pick, say wally and dwayne jones for magloire, or something along that lines of trading wally that frees up our sg/sf logjam and also allows us to draft someone like gay if he slips, there would be no need for sheldon or o'bryant if we got magloire

Moves

Jettison the following dead weight:

Brian Scalabrine
Dan Dickau
Orien Greene
Raef LaFrentz (eventually)

There you go. One.

Solution

Let Kandi and Dickau walk in the off-season without a renewal offer. Draft Marcus Williams at 7. In the 2nd round take Dee Brown (should still be around)for a back-up combo guard who can knock down the 3 and knows how to win - has to be better than Tony Allen. Try desparately to trade LaFrentz and Al Jefferson (who didn't develop at all this season and won't under Rivers but still qualifies under the "big man with potential" trade value inflation rule) to anyone who will take them, preferably for an experienced big that is good for at least 16 and 10 with an expiring contract (i.e. Carlos Boozer). Resign Dwayne Jones for the minimum if the Jefferson / LaFrentz trade for 1 player works.

Establish a regular starting lineup of:

Drafted PG
Delonte West
Pierce
Ryan Gomes
Kendrick Perkins

With a bench rotation including:

Dee Brown
Gerald Green (to play at least 20 mins a night at 2-guard and replace West as a starter after the all-star break if he has a break-out season)
Wally Sczerbiak
LaFrentz
Jefferson
(move Gomes to bench with acquired big in starting line up and Dwayne Jones if trade successful and remove Jefferson and LaFrentz)

With bench warmers:

Tony Allen
Dwayne Jones (if not in 9 man rotation above)
Brian Scalabrine
2nd round pick

That will free up enough cap room to resign Perkins, Gomes, West and Green without hitting the cap in the next 2 seasons.

Alternative is to offer LaFrentz, Jefferson, Allen and the 1st round pick (West would switch to starting PG) for one of Jermaine O'Neal or KG, fire both Ainge and Rivers, hire Rick Adelman and a decent GM and hope that them combined with Pierce takes you to the promised land.

If I was GM...........

I make a decision.... the future........ or now.

If we are considering upping Pierce we should look at clearing out the inexperienced players.

Trade Gerald Green and his world's of potential.

Trade Al Jefferson and his unreached potential.

Trade Pick 7, who needs it.

Lose Tony Allen (he has no skill I can identify)

Move Mr. Inconsistent Delonte West.

Out of all the young guys, I'm only sold on Kendrick Perkins.

For those 5 players we should try and bring in Jermaine O'Neal and Stephen Jackson, both of those guys seem like they could be moved this offseason.

For it to really work though it would need to be a 3-way.

This is a big one folks:

Boston Trade Breakdown
Outgoing
Wally Szczerbiak
Raef LaFrentz
Dan Dickau
Al Jefferson
Gerald Green
Delonte West
Tony Allen
#7 Pick

Incoming
#24 Pick
Hakim Warrick
Jamaal Tinsley
Stephen Jackson
Jermaine O'Neal

Memphis Trade Breakdown
Outgoing
#24 Pick
Eddie Jones
Brian Cardinal
Hakim Warrick

Incoming
Wally Szczerbiak
Raef LaFrentz

Indiana Trade Breakdown
Outgoing
Jamaal Tinsley
Stephen Jackson
Jermaine O'Neal

Incoming
Dan Dickau
Al Jefferson
Gerald Green
Delonte West
Tony Allen

Eddie Jones
Brian Cardinal

That gives Boston an instant playoff team of:
CT: Perkins/ Jones
PF: O'Neal/ Scarabline
SF: Pierce/ Warrick
SG: Jackson/ Pick 24
PG: Tinsley/ Greene

Memphis end up with:
CT: Wright/ LaFrentz
PF: Gasol/ ?
SF: Battier/ Miller
SG: Szczerbiak/ ?
PG: Stoudamire/ Jackson

Indiana end up with:
CT: Harrison/ Foster/ Pick 17
PF: Jefferson/ Cardinal
SF: Granger/ Pick 7 (Gay)
SG: EJones (expirer)/ Green/ Allen
PG: West/ Johnson/ Sarunas

Thats a flexible team with the option of resigning Peja as well.

JohnnySic 06-23-2006 09:37 AM

Any trades involving Jefferson or Green would make me

PoisonousDart 06-23-2006 03:28 PM

Ugh!

And WHOM exactly would want to watch that team? Tony Allen and Delonte should stay. Dickau and Scalabrine MUST GO. Primoz Brezec? You CAN'T be serious! One.

Snoopy 06-25-2006 09:03 AM

yeh in all seriousness i cant even begin to say how sick that team makes me in the stomach, perk is the one u sold on?!?! of all our young guys? west, green and al should all be staying, allen too, is getting rid of them and acquiring o'neal, jackson etc going to help us win a championship? im not saying that keeping the young guys will, but they are at least a playoff team this year in the east, and allowing for growth from the young guys they can only improve, while trading them away would give us a shorter time frame to take a run at a title, although it would help a lot of celtics fans sleep better at night knowing that pierce had all star help, but they would then have to put up or shut up

AI09 06-25-2006 10:30 PM

The celtics are the worst team in the nba when i watch there games i feel like :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

^Thanks for not contributing to the thread.^

The Celtics I still say, only need a minor move by moving Wally/Scal/Raef/Dickau.

Snoopy 06-27-2006 11:22 PM

agreed

PoisonousDart 06-27-2006 11:34 PM

Huh?

Um, do you even understand the concept/aesthetic that defines what makes up a "good" basketball team? If you truly think that Tony Allen isn't skilled, Delonte West is inconsistent, or that Brian " Veal" Scalabrine and Orien "Ridin' Dirty" Greene could help the Celtics become an "instant playoff team" then...how can I put this delicately? I suspect that you abuse illegal substances regularly. One.

Snoopy 06-27-2006 11:47 PM

how is scalabrine not in europe by now?
