Who's the top 3 best current actors?
daniel day lewis
denzel washington
meryl streep? i unno
I like watching anything with Gosling, DiCaprio and Gordon Levitt as of recently, so I guess I'll go with them.
I've enjoyed pretty much everything Dicaprio has been in lately
Christopher Waltz was phenomenal in Django and Inglorious Bastards, he's probably my number 1.
DDL has been one of my favorites ever. Haven't seen Lincoln yet, but I'll keep him in my top 3 anyways.
Joseph Gordon Levitt has been on a tear lately, posting solid performances in TKDR, Looper and Inception, so I'll put him at 3.
My favorites atm:
Daniel Day Lewis
Michael Fassbender
Bryan Cranston

I considered Waltz and JGL myself for my list. I passed on Waltz because he has only been phenomenal in 2 movies that I have seen (and both are QT movies). JGL is probably #4 for me right now. I also gave Bale and Tom Hardy some consideration (ironic that 3 of my honorary mention guys are in DKR which I really disliked). Gosling was another I considered.
Not listing christian bale is a crime.
He's 10x the actor leonardo is.
De Niro.
My only criticism of Daniel Day-Lewis is that he has done so few films. Why?
Since 2002 he has been in 5 films (7 since 1996). He turns in solid performances but his resume is not extensive. DiCaprio on the other hand has done 13 films since 02. I don't know if that is a knock on him or not?
None the less, the guy is brilliant. DiCaprio has also pushed his way to the top too. Not sure who I would put in third spot though.
I was very impressed with Bobby Cannavale in the last season of boardwalk empire...then I saw him on broadway in Glenn Gary Glenn Ross out shining Pacino on the same stage and I became a big fan....I'm seeing big things in this guys near future
Fassbennder
Bale
DiCaprio
As far as middle aged actors go, honorable mentions to Hardy, Penn and JGL. Then you have the old guys like DDD, Bardem and such. One of my favorites Ed Harris and Viggo Mortensen, both need to do some more movies.
I read that he makes shoes when he's not acting. Must be awesome to be able to pick and choose whenever you can work, even if it's 5 years, 10 years later.
Seriously? :oldlol: That is so random, no one would ever guess that. I assumed he might do Broadway or directing or writing or something.
Fassbennder
Bale

I'm confused. Penn is a middle aged actor and Bardem is an old guy? And who is DDD? Did you mean DDL?
My favorites atm:
Daniel Day Lewis
Michael Fassbender
Bryan Cranston
And Cranston would have probably been my number 4. I haven't seen enough movies lately to knock guys down who haven't been in much lately, so Waltz was an easy choice for me.
-Daniel Day-Lewis
-Philip Seymour Hoffman
-Christoph Waltz
current actors suck. i like fassbender, tho.
- michael fassbender
- tom hardy
- sam rockwell

Lol yea DDL. Guess Bardem falls into middle age category. I just have 3 tiers for actors, young ones in their 20s, 30-55s, and the old guys after 60+.

So how do you classify guys age 56-59? :D
So how do you classify guys age 56-59? :D
The best age group, perfect mix of experience and physical prowess to fully take over a role. They are the hybrids.
I wouldn't be the best judge of "top actors" so I'll just say my favorites
DDL
Brad Pitt
Leonardo Dicaprio
Chris Hemsworth is on top of his game right now
Bardem
Bale
DiCaprio

Even from the Batman trilogy, I like Oldman's performances better. It certainly isn't a crime to list him outside the top 3 current top 3 actors. My favorite performance of Bale's was American Psycho, but I can't base my current opinion on a movie that old if we're talking current top 3.
Ed Norton should get mentioned in here

Agreed. I think he is a good actor with great film selection and dedication to the craft. But he seems to be lacking something. I like his films but apart from American Psycho and Batman I don't remember much about his performances (and I remember him for Batman, but not Bruce Wayne). Even in The Machinist and the Fighter I don't remember much.
Although I might watch The Fighter again now, I've only seen it once.
Leo Dicaprio
Michael Fassbender
Liam Neeson
Christian Bale is right there too...

This is the reason Bale is not in my top 3. He may be one of my 3 favorite all time, but not current. His performance in the last 2 Batman movies are the worst of his career. I can't think of any great performances of his in the last couple of years outside of The Fighter (which was a great performance though).

I read somewhere that DDL takes time between films so as not to overexpose himself. I read that Marlon Brando had told him that "an actor has only so many faces" and to not make too many movies.
It makes sense, and I think its a part of what makes him so believable in all his roles.
Daniel Day Lewis
Gary Oldman
Johnny Depp
Pitt
DiCaprio
Waltz
Denzel Washington
Leonardo DiCaprio
Daniel Day Lewis
Russell Crowe
Leonardo DiCaprio
Johnny Depp
Russell Crowe my top actor for his performance in Gladiator, my favorite movie ever. His performance in A beautiful mind is excellent too but nothing touches his portrayal of Maximus. and then there's cinderella man. Les Miserables should be good if he's playing Jean Valjean.
1. Philip Seymour Hofman
2. Daniel Day-Lewis
3. Michael Fassbender
Liam Neeson
Ryan Gosling
Leonardo Di Caprio

Bale is one of my favorites, Leo is more versatile.
