Connecticut Huskies fan thread
I'm gonna start off by introducing myself. I'm originally from the ESPN boards, and unfortunately those guys tend to be idiotic bums who blame everything on the refs, and don't offer objective analysises, therefore I'm happy to be a member here.
Also, it's nice to see Illinois is represented well over here, considering all I hear back @ ESPN is either "Dee Brown overrated! or Dee Brown da bess! or Washington was handed the game or GORDON and Rose? Fab 2? Illanoy etc.."
Ok, so let us reminisce upon our past season, particularly postive and negative aspects which stood out to me.
Pros

Armstrong's emergence as a very good shotblocker, interior defense, and the ability to take the roll as a starting center.
Denham Brown's semi breakout season and acknowledgement for his clutch shots.
Rashad Anderson's re-emergence from his sloppy junior year and nationwide recognition for the sharpshooting.
Marcus Williams passing (self explanatory)
The second best regular season in Uconn history, though it is arguably better than '99.
Jeff Adrien, promising young, tough, undersized bigman. Filled a great roll as a backup PF.
Craig Austrie could handle the rock quite well.
Marcus Johnson showed flashes of brilliance.
Cons

The laptop incident, obviously, and questioning Calhoun's rather radical character into allowing for such a "small" punishment.

Rudy G**'s inability to vastly improve upon his game, and his shying away from contact. IMO he faced too much criticism, but from several analyses you can tell he wasn't completely ready to take over a game during crucial times. However, his midrange J was becoming more and more consistent, and his rebounding or hustle play wasn't disappointing either.

THe lack of cooperation among the team at times, the disinterest, the passiveness, the way two people would be involved in filling up the boxscore.

Interior Defense. Wayy overrated. Sure the team's rebounds and blocks are almost off the charts, but really man2man guys like Glen Davis, Jai Lewis, Will Thomas, Will Sheridan were abusing us with the classic dropstep, hooks etc.
Boone and Armstrong aren't necessarily a "FORCE" though the highlights normally shown on BSPN will give you that impression.
Adrien and Nelson seem to be more adequate when it comes to standing their ground.

Josh Boone, in general. Raised eyebrows freshman year, with the substitution for Meka. Didn't dissapoint soph year either. Has the size and athletic potential to become a great bigman, but apparently he doesn't regard offense as a facet of the game. Also, his effort and mental softness really stood out in games F.E. Syracuse with a LAUGHABLE 1-11 FG.

Ed Nelson. Was a great hustle player, and glued our team last year. Took over as our general anchor back in 05, and really inspired the team. The question is "WAS HE ON DECLINE AS A 21 YEAR OLD!?"

Marquette. Self-explanatory. A complete embarassment. However, I'm glad Novak and Dom James got the respect they deserved. Both of them are great collegiate players.

Marcus William's work ethic. Took him a while to get in shape. Seems disinterested at times. But when focused, he is the nation's top PG. However, it's not unanimous as some guys hype it out to be.

Anderson's inconsistency.
Re: Connecticut Huskies fan thread
Home!!! Man it is nice to have a thread for my beloved UCONN Huskies, without having to pay $9.99 or $90 bucks!!
I just happened to find this college basketball room by accident. I have been with ISH, but only on the NBA side. Anyway, it is great to be home. I bleed National flag blue and white, with red.
Go, Huskies!!!
UCONN Basketball......
Re: Connecticut Huskies fan thread
The UCONN women open up with a nice win over Stony Brook (where is that located?) Nice to see my girl, Mel Thomas dropping 21 pts. But it was even better seeing Maya Moore grab 10 rebs, get 21 pts, and kick out 4 dimes. Way to go, UCONN women's basketball!!! Next up, Holy Cross
Re: Connecticut Huskies fan thread
Man, we start off the season 2-0! I hope that we can show a little passion out there when we battle Gardner-Webb on Thursday. We gotta let people know, UCONN is back and will be a force this year.
Re: Connecticut Huskies fan thread
A.J. Price looked great the other night. 60% from the field. Plus, 80% from the free throw line, awesome. The key is getting Thabeett to be a legit post threat defensive side and offensive side. Right now, it is too early to tell. But man, if Thabeet can take over down low and the offensive end, we are going to be scary!!!
Re: Connecticut Huskies fan thread
I am still trying to understand why Marcus Johnson left the program. I hope anyone with some insite, could help me out. Thank you.
Re: Connecticut Huskies fan thread
The Women Huskies battle Holy Cross at 7:30pm!1
Go, Huskies!!!!
Re: Connecticut Huskies fan thread
UCONN vs Holy Cross.
It is a mismatch right now. We(UCONN), lead by 22 (first half) pts from Maya Moore, are up 47-20. And what is scary...Maya Moore is coming off the bench!!!
Re: Connecticut Huskies fan thread
UCONN women's basketball team runs away with this one;91-36. Maya Moore drops 31!!!
Re: Connecticut Huskies fan thread
Jerome Dyson = one of the top players in the big east...and best on ball defender IN THE NATION.
Re: Connecticut Huskies fan thread
Alot of people over look his defensive talents. They view him as a scorer. But thanks for mentioning his defensive skills.
Re: Connecticut Huskies fan thread
We battle Gardner-Webb tonight. This should be a really tough game. I am sure Gardner will be so emotionally pumped after beating Kentucky. I hope that we do not come out flat tonight.
Let's go, Huskies!!!!
Re: Connecticut Huskies fan thread
Re: Connecticut Huskies fan thread
The refs made that game boring by calling so many fouls on both teams. Uconn's team athleticism and defense is crazy. They just need to continue to improve their flow and ball movement on offense. Hopefully, we can beat oklahoma or memphis on friday.
Re: Connecticut Huskies fan thread
I hear ya. Man, tonight we get to battle a Memphis team that looks good. This is going to be a good test for us. If we can beat Memphis, this will be huge for us. A good quality win so early in the season. Man, talk about a morale booster.
Go, Huskies!!!
Re: Connecticut Huskies fan thread
Not looking too good. UCONN 0 Memphis 10.
Not looking too good. UCONN 0 Memphis 10.
Memphis is running n gunning baby! Uconn isnt getting back on defense. Memphis is just pushing it...heck Uconns defense overall is just getting to thier spots 1 second too late and against an athletic, speedy team like Memphis? You cant do that. Plus Memphis defense is really pressuring the hell out of Uconn.
I would say Uconn needs to buckle down and force Memphis to keep shooting as opposed to attacking the rim. Gamble their shots stop falling.
Thabeet is one lanky mofo...not saying it in a BAD way but just lookin at his size and his arms...its like watching a freak from lord of the rings. Just incredibly long...wonder his wingspan, has to be ridiculous.
Re: Connecticut Huskies fan thread
Yeah, Thabeet is pretty lanky. We are coming back, but we can't get that far behind against a team like Memphis.
And I agree, at the start of the game Memphis had us on lock down. We were confused and shaking like Don Knotts out there. But we have made some adjustments and now we have to buckle down on defense (like you said).
I hope that we can get this win!!
Come on, Huskies!!!
Re: Connecticut Huskies fan thread
Re: Connecticut Huskies fan thread
Rose last 2 plays = sick sick sick sick sick
Uconn back in it.
Re: Connecticut Huskies fan thread
thabeet ****ing sucks, i remember a year ago draftexpress had him going in the lotto and he's looking like jerome james.
Re: Connecticut Huskies fan thread
uconn is having trouble stopping Douglas-Roberts....But Jerome Dyson's dunk on that dude on memphis was SICK.
Re: Connecticut Huskies fan thread
im pulling for uconn. would be nice to have State be one of the last few teams undefeated although there are like 200 Div I teams that are undefeated at the moment haha (including uconn)
Edit:
thinking about years ago when state was one of like the last 10 teams undefeated and they lost to tulane :(
