Moving to Canada?
Im a final year undergraduate in my country. And as im looking forward to the near future there seems to be no place for me here. If you stay here either you go crazy or dumb. The social envioroment is terrible, im looking to develop and gain new skills, something that wont happen here.
I was thinking about Canada. Its seems like a good place to live in. The economy is good. What are the pros and cons for living in Canada?

Re: Moving to Canada?
Pros: Less fat people, better looking girls from my experiences with the states, very little crime, free healthcare, stronger beer (but costs twice as much).
Cons: Higher taxes, fast food is limited, cold winters (minnesota-like in most areas), higher gas prices, crappy television.

Re: Moving to Canada?
edit: why did i just assume in your post that you're coming from America, even though your location says Bulgaria? lol
Canada's great dude. have you looked into any of your options for exchange or working visas or anything?
cons
everything is more expensive even with the currency exchange
winter is coming (depends who you are though, i like winter)
pros
spectacular and diverse in nature
great cities
better job market (find Alberta... or support the developing regions by moving there... *cough* east coast *cough*
like america, you can find what you want (port cities, major hubs, small towns, mountains, prairies, summer/spring all year round, etc)
learn french if you want
we're friendly goddamnit

Re: Moving to Canada?
Canada is literally everything good about America without having to put up with any of the shit
we get your entertainment, your food, your brands, your security backing, and our leaders get to piggyback on yours politically
meanwhile, we don't put up with anything close to your sham politics, we aren't hated worldwide, our historical records are cleaner, we've still got the whole sea to shining sea bit, our corporate and financial sectors are a million times safer, better government entitlements with a deficit that the rest of the world envies
and most of all, we aren't bombarded with retardedly over the top advertisements and marketing campaigns that should be enough to drive every American insane... that shit still goes on, but it's much more subtle
actually, if i were to describe the difference between America and Canada, i'd use the word 'subtle'. Canada is subtle America. and considering the state of affairs down south at the moment, that should be a welcome variation.
-
Re: Moving to Canada?
I love the states, NYC, south beach, Vegas....but I cant see myself living there permanently....Canada is just so laid back and safe...as Ridonks said, we're right next to the Lightning rod that is the USA, gives us much of the same perks but in nice portions none of that super sized over the top GOV dubious agenda stuff... can't think of a better country to live in unless you have real coin and move to the south of France or something

You are from Canada Ridonks? What part? You are one of the coolest guys on here, I should have put 2 and 2 together. Oh and don't forget that our society is generally freer than the land of the free, and our law enforcement is respectful and more professional for the most part.

Re: Moving to Canada?
So what do Canadian feel in general about outsiders coming to live there....especially from the US?
What's the biggest culture shock for an American/US going there?

Canadians are very welcoming I feel. You won't encounter a lot of arrogance towards outsiders, I am talking to you America and France. If you tell most people you're American they will probably be very interested to know more about what it's like to live there and then explain how things are different in Canada.Of course individuals are different all over, there are good people, bad people and as*holes everywhere but I'm speaking generally.
I think the biggest cultural shock for most young people to be honest will be people's obsession with hockey, long winters and Canadian television. Of course if you have cable or satellite then you still get all of your American channels. In fact majority will be American tv. Another thing you will notice is that people are more assimilated. This might piss off you racists but in most groups of friends half will be white, with the other half being a combination of black, indian, asian and other races. People aren't really separated along racial lines as much basically.

Re: Moving to Canada?
I actually prefer the US over Canada even though logically it really doesnt make much sense on my end.

If I was an outsider and had a month to either visit US or Canada I would pick US 10 times out of 10. I just think if I lived there my quality of life won't be the same. I can't picture myself living their. I have visited California, New York, Arizona, Nevada and Virginia.

Unless you've got some nice bank saved or intend on making a fairly handsome salary I would suggest not moving in the heart of downtown Toronto or Vancouver right off the bat. There's plenty of suburbs such as Mississauga, Milton, Brampton where you can find housing for much cheaper then the metropolis regions...

Health care is NOT free. This is the most outlandish myth out there that is continually perpetuated about Canada.
One pro, at least out here in AB, is that there are nothing but jobs to be filled. If you don't have a job in AB right now it's because you don't want one.

Ugh, this is true. The CFL is an embarrassment to the sport of football. Nobody, under any circumstances, should have to watch this shit. I'd rather watch local HS football, I really would, because at least then I'm not expecting them to actually be professionals. God the CFL fucking sucks.

I'm from Alberta. I am dating an east coaster atm, love her to death until she gets some whiskey in her, then I have no idea wtf she's talking about. :oldlol:
I plan on visiting the east coast this summer for a couple weeks. Alberta and BC are beautiful, every one should visit if they get the chance. Montreal is my favourite city in North America though, despite the Quebecois.

I'm aware we pay taxes, everyone is. Thanks for stating the obvious. However, in Canada, a majority of our taxes go towards this universal healthcare rather than an inflated military budget for example.

That's nice and all, but the fact remains that literally the complete opposite of what you said is true.
