After all the threads with folk bickering about the differences between one type of basketball and the other,I thought it would be good to have a thread where only the euroleague, uleb and european national leagues could be discussed.
We should have at least one thread for each competition (Euroleague, ULEB, national leagues). Some of them already exists, like the ones for the PBA and Israel. Some could be sticky too if enough interest in them.
By the way, who is modding this forum? All the sticky threads here are related to the NBA 2007 All-Star! They should be deleted from here.
looks like efes pilsen could be a strong team next year.Kasun seems to be heading that way,a player that has underachieved spectacularly at barca but has a huge potential.Efes have Kakiouzis, schumpert, thornton, vujanic, peker, charles smith, gonlum etc etc.decent side if they gel well.
Didn't the Uleb become the eurocup and what's the eurocup becoming?
Didn't the Uleb become the eurocup and what's the eurocup becoming?
the eurocup is the fiba one.are they not still separate?
I think Kiev were in the finals last year.its clearly the third competition.

They're together again.
They're together again.
I see what they are doing. They are having the teams that usually compete in the eurocup to qualify for what is in effect the ULEB.makes sense
I see Le mans have signed batista (the brasilian not the uruguayan) from lietuvos rytas. This guy has obviously not lived up to expectations,he had a good college reputation, when rytas signed him they expected big things from him and he basically did nothing.Simasu you must know more about him than I do.I still think that le mans and nancy will struggle to win games.I continue my campaign of "get rid of the french teams, atleast one of them!"

european top salaries. These are NET salaries too!!!
Olympiakos 4 players in top 14!! and macijauskas has hardly played for them in two years!!!Top 3 in greece. 6 of top 10 in russia. only Navarro playing for barca in ACB in the top 10.only 5 of the top 10 best paid in europe play in the euroleague!!!Obviously another reason to add another team or two from russia and get rid of atleast one of the french teams.

You are right about the one thing: didn't live up to expectations. However, I know nothing about him, I think one thing I have heard involving him was that he was a victim of racism, only verbal, not physical. Not a single French team has a chance to do a single thing in the Euroleague, they are way too weak. I think their national team reflects their league in a way, lots of talent, and that's about it. About your salary post, wow, Childress is not worth that muc money if you think about it. Macijauskas is worth the money, but not worth the risk, as he's always injured, I think it's 3 years and counting for him, possibly 4. Sergey Monia isn't worth that money either, I haven't seen him play for Dinamo, but on russia he was terrible. Siskauskas and Smodiz should be making more money than Macijauskas or Monia. The rest of the list is what everyone would expect.

Monia has been horrendous everywhere. did nothing in the NBA,looks like a bench player for dynamo and has been poor for russia

Agreed. He probably made team russia because he "played" in the nba
DIJA will do well today
DKV joventud beat barca in the catalan league final.Thats without Rubio or pops.Barca worry me,I really dont think they have the coach they need.Plus I still have doubts about Navarro. As good as he is , he does seem to have some great disappearing acts!!

I agree with you about the coach. Bar
messina, scariolo, pepu hernandez or even piaganini from Siena.Plus I also think they have blown it on the PG position.they were trying to replace Lakovic because he had such a poor end to the season. When they said McIntyre, fine as he is class, but then bringing Barret some american nobody with no experience in europe and a few 10 day contracts in the NBA,come on Lakovic is far better.Creus who was a great point Guard should know this!
I would give Creus the benefit of the doubt. He has a lot of knowledge and if he selected Barret he probably had a good reason for it. Obviously, on the paper it doesn't look good, but I thought the same about Mallet in DKV and look how good the guy has been playing. A different thing is if Pascual will be able to make the guy look good or not.
Zalgiris Kaunas just beat CSKA Moscow 83-81. Not a good preseason for CSKA so far with a loss to Montepaschi Siena as well. Leading scorers for Zalgiris were Maciulis (18), Jankunas (18), Brown (15), and Loren Woods with (14 and 8 rebounds). CSKA was lead by Morris (15, 5 assists, 5 rebounds), Langdon (12), and Khryapa (12).
Panathinaikos also beat Maccabi Tel Aviv 100-96. Leading scorers for the winners were Spanoulis (19), Perperoglou (16), and Diamantidis (15). Leading scorers for Maccabi were Arroyo (21 and 7 assists), Fisher (20), and Williams (13).
In other news, Brandon Jennings has dropped 20 and 17 respectively in his first two games for Roma.

Are Siskauskas or Smodiz playing for CSKA? I'm surprised Khryapa was the third scorer there.
Neither played today, I think Siskauskas has some Achilles problem and Smodis didn't play for whatever reason.
The preseason is good for rookies but for the veterans it's meaningless
CSKA leads Maccabi 51-42 with 6:30 left in the third. CSKA has started the third quarter ona 14-0 run. Trajon Langdon leads all scorers with 15 and Rodney White leads Maccabi with 10.
CSKA destroys Maccabi 76-59, outscoring them 39-17 in the second half. Lorbek led all scorers with 22 and Langdon had 15.
It's preseason and it isn't a big deal, we knew CSKA was a better team than maccabi, maccabi is retooling and Carlos Arroyo wasn't good enough to carry maccabi. Maccabi won't panic until they lose a domestic game. I wouldn't of kept Derek Sharp (too old) or Tal Burstein (always hurt) but maccabi still has good players and they can go far. It's going to help Casspi and Eliyahu rotation but that will be a good thing.

D'or Fisher on Maccabi is solid as well. Maccabi will lose a domestic game this season, it doesn't really matter since they're berth in EL is always there anyway. Joke a league really, the domestic championship means nothing if there's no promotion for the winner.
Zalgiris wins the tournament with a 80-69 win over Panathinaikos, Jankunas and Varda had 15 each for Zalgiris and Batiste led PAO with 12.

The euroleague has made a commitment for an additional israel team in the near future
Panathinaikos defeated Maccabi once again 80-79 in the Slovenian tournament.
Leading scorers:
PAO: Spanoulis (15), Batiste (12), Nicholas (10)
Maccabi: Arroyo (18), Casspi (12), Burnstein, White, and Batista with 11.
Maccabi's season won't start until they lose a domestic game and it will happen the league has improved again
Some other results:
Maroussi d. Dyanmo Moscow 89-85
Maroussi - Pat Calathes (17), Mavroeidis (13), Keys (11)
Dynamo - Jannero Pargo (31), Nachbar (15), Hansen (11)
Fenerbahce d. Union Olimpija 74-57
Fenerbahce - Gordon Giricek (15), Savas, Demir (10)
Olimpija - Marko Milic (18), Hukic (14) Rudez (12)
Fenerbahce d. Maccabi 85-67
Fenerbahce - Smith (19), Preldic (12), Basak (12)
Maccabi - Jason Williams (16), Simmons (12), Eliyah (9)
Rome beat Red Star 86-64
Brandon Jennings had 20, Allan Ray with 15, and Andre Huston with 17
Grinder thanks for all the results keep them coming!Isn't that jersey that Rudy's wearing oden's? it's about 5 sizes too big!
Berraco hopefully you are right about Barret, yes Creus deserves to be given the benefit of the doubt and yes Mallet has done really well for DKV.But DKV tend to have a good eye,Barton,Jagla, etc or have an ability to make players play well like Jasaitis who did nothing at TAU or Maccabi.Barca tend not to do any of those things.see Shammond Williams,Bootsy Thornton, and the rest.I hope I am wrong but I think Barret will join the huge list of nothing yanks that have played in Barcelona.Oh and yes what happened to the biggest who-the-hell-is-this-guy-player ever, Gary Neal?

I mean, you never know how these kind of players are going to perform. At least let's see how the guy plays the initial games. But people with such a knowledge of basketball like Aito, Creus, etc deserve always the benefit of the doubt for their decissions. And in the PG spot, if Creus thinks this guy can be any good and an upgrade over last year's Lakovic(!!!), I would bet my money on him.
Gary Neal is now in Treviso, and I really don't understand why :confusedshrug:

Lakovic at the beginning of the season was great, but when xavi pascual took over he disappeared.he will go somewhere else and light up the place as usual.Barca struggle to bring out the best from players. On a positive note Vasquez has looked good, though for what he has been getting paid it's about time.

Vazquez is surprisingly outplaying Andersen, or at least that's the impression I've got. I don't know how long will last this, though. Fran's is non-consistent by nature.

I think they should play both. Lakovic,Navarro,Ilyasova,Vazquez and Andersen.
That would be a pretty big team too. They will probably play Barret, navarro,Barton,Ilyasova,Andersen. They are both good sides. Not good enough to win the euroleague though. Not with Pascual, that's not a dig at him,he just doesn't have the experience.

What do you think of the article in marca about Barca,Madrid and TAU leaving the ACB in two years?
It would be my worst nightmare come true,a closed league ala NBA!!!

I haven't read it (I can't access Marca from my office), but there has been talks about that since some years ago. I wouldn't like it at all. I think the format domestic league/European competitions is really good for all.
On a side note, just read that Bar
