Rubio calls the NBA "a lot easier"
When asked post game last night after the win over the Mavs about how the adjustment is going with transferring to the NBA style and how he has been doing so well Rubio stated that the NBA is "easier" since there is so much more space for him, also that the zone and defensive 3 make is easy for him. You know, the things I've been posted here for years while people here drool over all of the overrated point guards in the league. Apparently Rondo, Rose and Westbrook are better than Isaiah Thomas according to many of the children posting on this board.
He also added that basketball is still just basketball and he knows the game.

link or thread? LOL. NBA TV is about as legit of a source for NBA interviews as you are ever going to get.
edit, didn't realize I didn't mention on the first post that it was on NBA TV.

Not really a fan of Rudy but within 4 games I can already tell why he's not flourishing. He's just not doing well with reduced roles. I'd guess that over in Europe he had a bigger role and that's why he succeeded so much. Over in the NBA teams aren't obviously going to give him that type of role because his talent doesn't really dictate it. Thus he get's relegated to being a spot up shooter.
The few possessions that he gets\attempts to showcase his game he's doesn't suck at all. Can make plays for others, make plays off the dribble. Just generally used at a spot up guy.
Considering his usage\shot attempts\minutes? He's basically your average role player off the bench.

Re: Rubio calls the NBA "a lot easier"
He said it's easier because he has more space.. The Nba lanes are wider..
Simple.
Nothing to see here.

LOL @ it being nothing to see. He said the zone defenses are a part of it and the defensive 3 rule as well. He didn't mentioned the lack of a handcheck, but that's already beyond debate that it's easier for PG's today. I'd like to see how JJ Barea would fare in the mid 90's NBA. Probably he a towel and ball boy. :oldlol:

Yeah the biggest problem with Ruby in Portland was he was forced into a spot up shooter. Sit outside and wait to shoot the 3 as a last option. The team already have Roy, Matthews, Miller. Rudy is made to have the ball in his hands and create. Similar to what you see Manu do. Another thing is Rudy's lack of commitment to the NBA. Seems like almost every year he is finding his way to play back home again.

Yes because I am making up this entire topic. lol
You don't believe me? Am I the only person with income here that allows me to watch NBA TV? It's a very cool channel, I have it on my FIOS package. I'll be watching the Mavs and Thunder play in a few minutes. Earlier today I saw Kevin Johnson get bizzy on Jordans Bulls in the NBA Finals. Get the channel dammit!

just like there are pgs from the 90s who would get killed today because they arent quick enough.

Re: Rubio calls the NBA "a lot easier"
He is not saying competition is easier. he's saying its easier to make plays, and thats true, you only have to look at scoreboards from europe and from the nba

If you followed along you know would that the lack of contact on the perimeter makes everybody faster today. Illegal screens are not called like they used to be. Now any point guard gets a running starts for a pick and roll from 25 feet away and there is no defense to it.
Just curious, how do you compare think a prime John Stockton compares with Ray Felton, Andre Miller, Lowry? Stockton, Hardaway, KJ, even Marbury playing with today's rules would be funny to see. They would have their way easier without question.

Chris Paul said the same thing when he was comparing College Basketball to the NBA. So yeah you are right, there is nothing to see here.

court is bigger, no handcheck, defensive 3 sec, moving screens, not so strict with travelling...
it's easier for him.

obviously some would be better, but they would have to defend one another.
how do you think a big guard like penny hardaway would do trying to chase around quicker guards without handchecking them.
some guys from the 90s would dtruggle on defense, if they had to play today
-
Re: Rubio calls the NBA "a lot easier"
Better coaching, better spacing, better talent, better athletes. Offensively, the NBA is a pass first PG's dream.
Euroleague is still a joke in comparison. I shudder thinking about the days I watched that shyt because of the lockout. Sony Weems 20 ppg over there. Krstic is about to win MVP. Before the NBA players left, they won MVP every week (Batum, Farmar, Kirilenko etc etc). And we've seen Euroleague superstars in the NBA look like absolute jokes (Spanoulis or whatever that scrub's name is).

Gary Payton and Micheal Jordan wouldn't have been as awesome as they were on defense if they couldn't use their hands. But they would been even deadlier offensively. I think it's silly to say the would have it easier on offense and then try to counter that by saying they wouldn't be able to defend with today's rules. That's the whole purpose of the thread you see, that you can't defend the perimeter with today's rule. Thanks for continuing to hammer home my nail of truth I guess.
I have to also add that today's game is more 1 on 1 oriented offensively. Basketball IQ's aren't as big of a deal today because people are specialists. There are people who do nothing but sit in the corner and shoot 3's and play defense. There are people who do absolutely nothing but get rebounds and try to block shots. There are guys who do nothing but score the ball. The old game had "basketball players"... these days people go wild when they see Landry Fields make smart plays because they are so used to see a selfish style of hoops. If the huge money with long term guaranteed contracts were around in the older days, I suspect this would have happened in the NBA sooner.

i dont think so. there were a lot of specialists back then. chuck person, rodman, mutombo, eaton, steve kerr...
90's bball was all about the iso. everybody screaming "illegal d" was part of the offense. that's why they allowed the zone again.
-
Re: Rubio calls the NBA "a lot easier"
Yeah, knowing you'll actually get paid on time probably does make it easier to play ball.
-
Re: Rubio calls the NBA "a lot easier"
It's been like that for years. Didn't the NBA said that they want to stop hand checking and make rules to more a perimeter game? The perimeter players have more space to operate and it's easy for them. After 2004, they made it more perimeter friendly as we see it today.

Re: Rubio calls the NBA "a lot easier"
I recorded it with my cam yesterday with the purpose of posting it. But the OP made it sound so arrogant, like he was criticizing it. It was a sincere and honest respond. Basically he said that the players are better, and then when asked how he has adjusted, he talked about all the space and freedom he has. But yeah, it clearly points out how much easier the guards have it this era with the rule changes to make them play more like Jordan. It's a shame now when someone born in 95... never mind.
Edit: Also, does anyone know of a good video software to cut out just the part of the interview where Ricky is talking about the freedom?

Re: Rubio calls the NBA "a lot easier"
Lotta unbiased verbatim context in that OP

Is this a joke? There's some great NBA coaches, but there's hardly any fan who thinks his team's got a good coach.
(I'm talking strictly about head coaches, if you count all the assistants I do agree)
