Why are people acting like Larry Bird has always been thought of as this great talent evaluator? He hasn't. Up until a year or two ago he was average at best.

Good point.
MKG is not the type to carry a crappy team into the playoffs. His ceilling looks more Scottie Pippen-esque. If Cleveland got him and paired him up with Kyrie then he would be really good.
He might appear to be a bust.
On the court IQ and team building IQ are two different things. If they were even close to being the same every GM would be a former NBA all star. But instead the front offices are filled with men some who never played the game and those that did play and became solid front office men are the ones that were role players and became students of the game from the bench.
