Kleiza Signs $12.2M Deal With Olympiakos
Linas Kleiza has agreed to a two-year, $12.2 million with an opt-out next year with Olympiakos, a source told Marc Spears of Yahoo!
Excellent pickup, better than Childress IMO.
Papaloukas/Teodosic
Wafer/Halperin
Childress/Vasilopoulos
Kleiza/Vujcic/Erceg
Bourousis/Glyniadakis/Schortsanitis
Not a fan of the Wafer signing, but this one will give them a huge boost. Next step is to pick up an NBA point guard or someone like McIntyre or Arroyo to play in front of Papaloukas.

Re: Kleiza Signs $12.2M Deal With Olympiakos
The Nuggets better hurry and find a backup SF b4 they're all taken or re-signed
-
Re: Kleiza Signs $12.2M Deal With Olympiakos
kleiza hit some big 3s when the nuggs needed it last playoffs. big loss imo

Re: Kleiza Signs $12.2M Deal With Olympiakos
Love it. Keep those international signings coming. The NBA will be a shell of its former self.

Like the NBA doesn't sign the European players :hammerhead: I like Kleiza but the league will do fine without him... He's only a bench player. The day a high level player leaves for Europe then we can get worried.

big loss? he had a nice game or two...with about 50 average to below average ones.
for 6.1 mill per i could care less. hes not worth half of that. way overrated by this board who probably have seen him play 1-2 games at most (one of which was his 40 point game vs utah a few years ago).

Re: Kleiza Signs $12.2M Deal With Olympiakos
$12.2 million will buy a lot of Ouzo (very tasty and potent Greek drink). Maybe after a year or two in Greece, Kleiza may have honed his skills and will be ready to return to the Nuggets, who retain his rights. Now the Nuggets should pursue a reliable and consistent PF/C and a 3rd PG, maybe Pruitt or Taylor as PGs.
-
Re: Kleiza Signs $12.2M Deal With Olympiakos
LK isn't worth even close to that amount. Good riddance.

Dominique Wilkins, Bob McAdoo are notable HOFers who left for the Euroleague.

Good news for the Nuggs.
I am impressed by his offensive skills but dude is a horrible defender. A liability in defense. Softy.

 @ Kleiza refining his skills, just a summer ago the Nuggets didnt want to include him in a deal for Ron Artest. And there were people on here against Kleiza even being traded.

Give it another 20 years and the EuroLeague will probably become the top basketball league in the world.

I don't know how he's going to get playing time under coach Yannakis, who preaches defensive effort first and foremost:confusedshrug: Knowing him and his principles, Kleiza will probably sit on the bench most of the time...

Stop baiting the stupid people. Some of them are from places like Utah or Ohio where it's ok to be slower. They think you are serious.

Nique had just averaged 29 PPG with the Clippers, the year before he left.
He came back and put up 18 PPG off the bench for San Antonio when he returned.
Obviously no player is capable of leaving for the Euroleague at the peak of their career, because players are stuck for years due to their contracts. A player would have to become a superstar and leave once their rookie contract expires after 4 seasons while turning down a huge extension in the NBA that assures them financially rather than the sometimes questionable payment methods overseas.

Re: Kleiza Signs $12.2M Deal With Olympiakos
This is great News!
People who isn't nuggets fans won't understand this, but loosing LK and Jones is the best thing that could happen to this team... I don't think i'm gonna do the whole thing but here are some reasons:
1) LK shoot 30.25% Jumpers (Mid-range and 3's combined) And that is TERRIBLE for a guy who shoots as much as he does.
2) LK is a terrible defender, the worst in the rotation.
3) LK is mentaly weak, if he doesn't get 25+ mpg or if he doesn't get the contract he think he deserves will it effect his game.
4) We only need LK for 10mpg cause melo is gonna play 38, and LK isn't top 50 at any category at PF.
5) He is gonna score like 3ppg on 37% shooting playing 10mpg. And then it is better to actuallt have someone who can play D and actually spreed the floor.
6) LK would be great if he got 30mpg at SF, but he won't in denver. So thats why i want an OK+ defender (not a terrible one) and someone who shoot jumpers at a high % and not 30%.
Jones:
1) His defensive stats is NOT good at all.
2) He has a low bball IQ, like fouling to much when there is no point or taking a stupid shot that never goes in
3) He is terrible offensivly (exept dunking), terrible shooter, ball handler & passer.
4) He would be perfect for this team if he could shoot jumpers. (Afflalo is an equal defender, and guess what he can do? yes, he can shoot jumpers and pass the ball)

Re: Kleiza Signs $12.2M Deal With Olympiakos
I like this. Kleiza always went off against the Blazers when they played the Nuggets. probably because Outlaw is usually "guarding" him...

Who would you like to see the Nuggets singing?
So far they have
Nene l C. Andersen
K. Martin l M. Allen
C. Anthony l R. Balkman
A. Afflalo l J.R. Smith
C. Billups l T. Lawson

Re: Kleiza Signs $12.2M Deal With Olympiakos
Bigs: Pops or Aaron Gray SF's: Novak, Udoka, Bowen (Or is he signed?), Rodney Carney, Coby Karl PG: Anyone. There are many others who could fill the role of LK, but we need a 3rd PG, a backup SF (Someone who can defend and shoot) and a Big (Someone who rebounds.

-
Re: Kleiza Signs $12.2M Deal With Olympiakos
any of the above would be adequate. not necessarily better than LK but perhaps a better fit and able to help out. we really only need a solid bench swing man to give us 10 mpg and 5-6 ppg. LK averaged 10 ppg in 22 mpg. we dont have 22 mpg to play behind melo anymore anyways. and if the new guy can play any D, even better.

I don't know why this myth is endlessly repeated on these boards.
Byron Scott
Bob McAdoo
Dominique Wilkins
Eddie Johnson
Dino Radja
Rolando Blackman
Ricky Pierce
Xavier McDaniel
The list goes on and on of good NBA players that have left the NBA and played in Europe.

Re: Kleiza Signs $12.2M Deal With Olympiakos
Spurs, Lakers, Celts, Cavs, Mavs, Magic all added pieces this offseason...the Nuggets have stood idly by and have only lost players. Jones, Hunter and now Kleiza...and I still don't get the point of the Hunter trade.
I love Melo and Billups and practically that whole team. I rooted for them in the playoffs and it's just irritating how they probably won't meet their expectations this upcoming season.

As pointed out already, Wilkins averaged 18 a game in the NBA after he played in Greece.

Re: Kleiza Signs $12.2M Deal With Olympiakos
BTW, Klieza signed for 2 years at 8.6 million euros net income. He is the second highest paid player in Europe behind Childress who makes 4.7 million euros net income per season.
Childress' NBA salary equivalent is $10.833 million per season according to Atlana Journal Constitution.
http://www.ajc.com/sports/content/sports/hawks/stories/2008/07/23/childress_hawks_greece.html
Childress leaving Hawks to join Greek franchise
Restricted free agent signs $32.5 million deal with Olympiakos of Greece
Childress, whose net pay from Olympiakos will be $20 million
That means that Klieza would have to make $9.9125 million per season in the NBA to equal the Olympiacos contract. Since Childress' $20 million net = a $32.5 million gross NBA contract, then Klieza's $12.2 million net contract = a $19.825 million NBA contract.
So it's not like 6 million a year, it's like 10 a million a year in the NBA.

We got Affalo ..don't act like Jones is irreplaceable. And Hunter are you kidding me? He never even played a game last year. So don't really know how your counting that as a "loss".
LK will make the bench thinner but I imagine will pick someone to fill in some minutes. I wouldn't mind him coming back but him leaving isn't that big of a deal.
Wish him luck over in Europe tho.

I am Lithuanian myself and I still have 2 say. Kleiza is weak defensively. Can't penetrate well. On the other hand he is good shooter and passer. Still not worth the money Olimpiacos paying 4 him imo.
As for "significant loss" as you stated m8. That's ridiculous.

dont forget we lost petro, hart and weems too! :oldlol:
you cant figure out the hunter trade? giving up a protected first to get rid of a 0 ppg, 0 rpg guy costing us over 7 mill per? yeah, thats a toughie.

agreed. its not significant at all. if europe is willing to double every players salary, then yeah...they will steal players. but paying 6 million for an nba bench player...eh...whatever.
