Grizzlies are for real now
I've always thought the Grizzlies were kind of the Pistons in the 2000s, balanced roster, good defense, very strong front court. The only outlier was Rudy Gay who is too inconsistent to be a leader.
Now that Rudy Gay has been replaced by Tayshaun Prince, this Grizzlies team got someone who has experience and can instantly fill in this balanced offense, defense focused team.
plus they got ed davis comming off the bench
Re: Grizzlies are for real now
How consistent has Prince been with his outside shot lately?
Conley/Allen/Prince/Randolph/Gasol is probably the best defensive team in the league. With Gay gone, Gasol will probably get more touches which is the best thing for them!

He's shooting 43% from 3 this year! I love this trade because I've always like Davis and Daye too.
Re: Grizzlies are for real now
don't forget Wroten and CJ. Both very good.
Re: Grizzlies are for real now
Also Pondexter has been the Grizzlies best 3pt shooter before Ellington banged knees with him. The grizzlies have never had shooters!
Re: Grizzlies are for real now
Tayshaun "The Prison Guard" Prince is a great defensive player.

We already had the best defensive team with Rudy. Rudy isnt as bad as people say be is especially on defense.
Re: Grizzlies are for real now
I think Prince is a better spot up shooter than Rudy Gay, but Rudy Gay is much better at getting his own shot, lucky the Grizzlies need a spot up with Z-bo and Marc on the block and Conley slashing. Good trade for both teams imo.

That should be sweet for the Grizzlies. He will have plenty of open looks!
When will Pondexter be back?
Conley / Bayless / Wroten
Allen / Pondexter
Prince / Daye
Randolph / Arthur
Gasol / Davis
The bench looks good. They will regret trading Ellington though
Re: Grizzlies are for real now
ive always thought prince was a great system defensive player. he hasnt been able to stop too many ppl since the wallaces were no longer around him. ben and rasheed were defensive beasts in that system.

There hasn't been an official date but I'm guessing Pondexter will be back after All Star Break. Chris Johnson from the d-league (6'6" rookie G/F out of Dayton) is the Ellington replacement. The front office knew what it was doing, they got him for nothing. At one point like a week before he was traded Ellington had made 35 3s for the grizzlies and 13 came in 2 games. He was very inconsistent and not a good defender and has a slow release. Chris Johnson. Has better size, athleticism, is a better defender, and has a quick lefty release and shoots with all the confidence in the world. He produces what Ellington does in way less minutes and on a super cheap contract. Total Hollinger move.
Re: Grizzlies are for real now
Maybe. It definitely gives them more of an identity now though and they should be more entertaining to watch because of it.
Re: Grizzlies are for real now
Playoffs aren't about depth. Grizzlies just became a worse playoff team.

grizzlies's starting lineup become better

How?
Grizzlies won more playoff games w/o Gay than with him in the lineup. They have a very good chance of taking anyone out in the WCF.
