This post is reserved for something. It's too bad I don't know what that something is.

Re: The Official Starcraft 2 Thread
What's the latest trend in builds?
-
Re: The Official Starcraft 2 Thread
From what I've been seeing in high level play...
TvZ has changed the most recently due to the queen change that has rendered hellion openings less than effective. Terrans are afraid to move them up as zergs have begun doing builds opening with 4-6 queens, optimizing creep spread. This has repopularized 1/1/1 banshee a bit. This match up has become cheesier on the terran end.
PvZ is the biggest matchup right now due to these races being the strongest...it generally comes down to lategame compositions where the zerg has mostly air based units (corruptors/brood lords) and a nice number of infestors. the protoss will have a deathball of collosi, archon, stalker, sometime a bit of sentry, some times a bit of zealot, high templar, and mothership. it often comes down to the mothership's vortex on the zerg air units to deal massive splash damage using high templars and archons. zergs are making good use of the neural parasite ability, taking away the protoss' collosi and mothership during engagements to give them an edge in battle.
TvP I haven't seen much of but generally the terran is going mass m/m/m with vikings while the protoss will go deathball generally without archons until a bit later in the game. the terran will add on ghosts eventually.
mirror match-ups i don't know that much. ZvZ has become less ling/bling/roach and more towards later game play. PvP is also a bit more late game and is quite mechanical. TvT I haven't watched barely any lately but is still most of the same marine/tank/medivac battles....
Something popular for zerg is a style most recently popularized by Symbol and Dimaga. Using overlord drops with lots of ling/bling and harass all over the map. This is generally a vP build, and it's a very swarmy style that leads to extremely exciting play.
-
Re: The Official Starcraft 2 Thread
In TvP I've noticed a bit of the terran going 1 rax expand into 2 gas 3 rax and then pressure with a stim timing push.
Also a fair bit of un-upgraded pure marine pressure just to try to contain the protoss.

I noticed this a lot on the streams lately. If I were a zerg I think I'd be doing it too. Looks really cool and stops all early aggression except for....
One of my favorite builds, the one that got me started. The 1/1/1 except I go 1/1/2. I like harassing people and even winning with the 4 banshee pressure (w/cloak)
F*ck calling it cheese. If I don't build a barracks and a bunker in your base it's not cheese (cannons for toss). If I deny you scouting and you don't see my early double gas and dual starports. That's on you not on me (obviously not you Maniak but anyone who would cry about it being cheese). Get out a scan or overlord or observer and find out.
Again, scouting is the key. I've started even using scans if I get denied good scouting. Just played a match scanned toss (I went 2 gas 3 rax) and saw he had 6 lots and 4 stalkers. I had combat shield and concussive shell, and knew my force could take his. I was right. I had planned on waiting a bit longer but once I saw I had to the advantage I had to move out or give him a chance to get a stronger force.

Re: The Official Starcraft 2 Thread
gstl.. gawd damn, sculp vs symbol on metropolis, what a sick game!
-
Re: The Official Starcraft 2 Thread
I went to bed right after Sculp's first game. I was very tired.
TSL is more of TDL (Team Drone Life). Their zerg line up is superb. I joked that Sculp beat his first opponent with 5 units. SCV, MULE, Marine, Tank, Medivac (which he did).
Sculp is quite the up and comer, and I think he might be the next big terran. It seems to me that NSH has put a lot of faith in him and is sending him out in good positions in all of their team league games.
Nice to see TSL win, that's who I had predicted.

Starcraft is pretty much a sport itself... so. And you are dead wrong anyways, lots of these pro sc players are more athletic than average people. If you wanna poerform well at big events good stamina is needed, most pros goes to the gym for this reason.
Anyways it's like picking on basketball players for being dumb, some of them are and some are not.

Re: The Official Starcraft 2 Thread
Congratulations to WW.Ziktomini for defeating EG.Demuslim 2-1 in the WCS UK Nationals Finals.
He earned $6,000 and a paid trip to the 2012 Battle.net European Championships.
Demuslim earned $3,000 and a paid trip to the Euro championships.
The third player who earned a paid trip also went away with $1,350. That player was Infused.JonnyREcco.
I heard a rumor that JonnyREcco is going to sign with Team Dignitas, which makes sense because they lack zergs and for one of the biggest teams in e-sports, their SC2 line-up has lacked results as of late.
-
Re: The Official Starcraft 2 Thread
Speaking of Team Dignitas, during the Chilean National Finals d.Killer defeated NrG.Darkness 2-0. xLs.Cruza will be joining Killer and Darkness with a paid trip to the 2012 Battle.net South American Championship.
Killer never dropped a map in the whole tournament, 2-0'ing all of his opponents.
The Chinese National finals began today. I do not know of a stream for this, but I think the top 3 favorites to take this are TooDming, Loner, and MacSed.
The France National Finals are this Thursday through Sunday. The obvious favorite is Mill.Stephano, however there are 8 other zergs in this tournament and it's safe to say Stephano's ZvZ is not his best matchup. I still don't think he'll be defeated.
I'll continue to update the WCS tournaments, as during the month of July I believe all of the smaller nationals will be done.
I think the Sweden Nationals will be a great event. Bischu, Naniwa, Sjow, Thorzain, and even LaLush (#1 in points for the TSL 4 qualifier) will be there, among others.
For premier tournaments, HomeStory Cup V will be taking place this Thursday through Sunday. This is must-watch SC2 action. HSC has been known for being one of the most entertaining tournaments in the scene. Liquipedia Link

Re: The Official Starcraft 2 Thread
Oh, I almost forgot to include the latest information on the 2012 OGN Starleague Season 1. This will be the first season that the OGN Starleague is starcraft 2. This tournament will probably be one of the best of the whole year.
OGN decided to seed in 4 players. Those 4 players are 4 of the most accomplished Starcraft 2 players in the world. SK.MC, MVP.DongRaeGu, LG-IM.Nestea, and LG-IM.MVP all received direct seeding.
Some qualifiers occurred either today or yesterday and here is an image of all the qualified players so far.

There will be separate qualifiers for the KESPA players (like Flash and Jaedong).
The first column is Protoss, second is Terran, and third is Zerg.
It's not surprising for me to see Zerg dominance at these qualifiers.

Re: The Official Starcraft 2 Thread
The GSL and GSTL finals will be held on a beach. And it's apparently going to start at like 7kst which is apparently like 3am pacific...
Won't be watching that, unless I alter my sleep schedule for a few days.
-
Re: The Official Starcraft 2 Thread
Homestory Cup V has begun. Day 1 is over. This tournament is beyond entertaining to watch because the players are all relaxed and having a good time. Although the hours are not ideal for non-Germans/europeans, it's still worth tuning in when you can.
Link for brackets and everything. If you scroll down you can find the link to the two streams, that both are being broadcast in 720p for free.
Groups A through D were played out.
Group A Nerchio and Naama advanced. I personally thought it would be Nerchio and Socke, but Socke struggled at the event.
Group B Idra and Bling advanced. Idra dominated his opponents going 3-0 with a 6-1 overall map score. The Grack Is Back! Bling didn't know he advanced because he actually lost the set to Cloud but he had a better map score so he still moved on (this is why tournaments need to adopt the GSL format in 4 man groups)
Group C Happy and Ret advanced. Incontrol went 1-6 and ReaL displayed some really weird strategies against Ret.
Group D SaSe and Dimaga moved on. These are 2 guys who could very well take the whole tournament and I was not too surprised to see them be the two advancing.
Groups E-H will be played out tomorrow.
Also this weekend is the WCS France Nationals being played out. I'll give updates on that after the event but won't be watching any of it (maybe the finals).
-
Re: The Official Starcraft 2 Thread
Group E I think MC and HasuObs will move on. However I think TLO could very well replace Hasuobs there.
Group F I think we will see MaNa and Sleep move on. Mana recently won Dreamhack and a qualifier for the TSL4 and Sleep has been playing great since joining xSix and getting to go to tournaments all over the world. His ZvZ is quite strong so I think that will play advantage in a group with 2 other zergs and 1 protoss.
Group G I think we will see Sheth and YongHwa move on. YongHwa is a relatively unknown player but he's Korean so he'll probably do extremely well. slivko might make it past instead of sheth...
Group H I believe we will see MVP and Golden move on.
Because this is a four day tournament I believe the day after these groups we will see Group stage number two and then the final day will be the Top 8 being played out in a bracket. quarterfinals is bo5 and semis are bo5. finals are b07 and there is a third place match apparently.
-
Re: The Official Starcraft 2 Thread
Day 2 of Homestory Cup V has ended.
Group E MC and Hasuobs advanced
Group F Sleep and Snute advanced
Group G YongHwa and slivko advanced
Group H MVP and Golden advanced
6 out of 8 on my predictions.
The next group stage has been set.
Group A:
idrA
Happy
Sleep
Hasuobs
Group B:
YongHwa
Nerchio
Bling
Snute
Group C:
Sase
MC
Slivko
Dimaga
Group D:
Golden
MVP
Ret
Naama
These are all really strong groups that will be hard to predict.
Group A I think it'll be idrA and Sleep, however I wouldn't be surprised with either Happy or Hasu advancing. Hasu hasn't been playing as well at this tournament so far as I thought he might, though.
Group B I think YongHwa and Nerchio will advanced. I don't think Bling will be able to make it out giving his lackluster performance as of late and Snute may be able to make it past...
Group C I think Sase and MC will advance although I really think Dimaga may advance over Sase.
Group D I think it'll be Golden and MVP advancing. You never know with Ret, and he performed quite well in the first group stage so I think he can take games off of any of the players in his group. Especially because Zerg has been playing very well against terran.

Re: The Official Starcraft 2 Thread
I don't watch GSL because I don't want to alter my sleep schedule to get rest before watching or just stay up. It generally doesn't start until 1 or 2 am here and I like to be in bed before that.
I was surprised naniwa took it to game 5. i don't like him at all but he's quite good. DRG is my second favorite korean behind MMA so it's nice to see him be the best in the world right now.
Byun beating nestea 3-0 was surprising. Still good to see this guy dominating again after the Match Fixing Scandal.
I love the way the bracket is. Byun (T) is facing Seed (P). These are the two more up and coming unknown players. Then below that DRG (Z) is facing MC (P). These are the two established previous GSL champions.
This assures the finals will be like last season with an up and comer against an established big name player. I think I'll be staying up for the finals, especially because they're scheduling them and the GSTL finals around the same date(s) on a beach in South Korea.
I hope that Byun beats Seed and DRG beats MC, and then DRG goes on to win his second GSL championship.
Both Seed and Byun have been dominating since RO32 so those games will surely be good.
-
Re: The Official Starcraft 2 Thread
byun vs nestea on metropolis was an interesting game to say the least
gsl was using a version of the map without a neutral supply depot at the ramp, and byun used a double bunker contain for the easy win. although nestea scouted the proxy rax, i dont think he was aware of the lack of a depot (most players prly just assume without even ever looking)
but overall, byun just outplayed nestea.
-
Re: The Official Starcraft 2 Thread
people complain about that but byun deserves the win. he had better game sense to know that was there and exploited it for victory. heart and mind of a champion.

Alicia with his second second place of the year. Still an amazing protoss.

Re: The Official Starcraft 2 Thread
MMA is NOT on the Slayers bench tonight.
Slayers-EG playing TSL-M.
Slayers is missing Ryung, Alicia, and Puma who are all at MLG.
No MMA to me almost assures he will be gone. My favorite player and team splitting up...sad.
Slayers opening with Terran player Clide and TSL opening with zerg player Shine.
I don't like how Slayers only has 1 terran and are using him first.

imagine if a slayers player wins this. winning an mlg event and gstl in one weekend, beautiful.
alicia looking really good, ryung looking really good.
taeja is tearing it up and alive has been solid. however alive is going to face first who has beaten 3 terran in a row in the losers bracket.
