Does our team look like championship contendors?

What are we missing, I know were missing something...

Talent on the wings, depth in the backcourt, Carlos Delfino (damn Russians). Kapono and Bargnani need to step up in the regular season on a regular basis.

McGrady wasn't really a go to type of player when he was with the Raptors. He left the team before you could officially call him a go to player.

Stoudamire would've been the more logical choice in my opinion.

But the Raptors are missing wing players. Don't get me wrong I like AP and all, but when he is your best wing player you know there is something lacking. The Raptors are going to get very little production from the wings this season and I think that will be their downfall.

Tier 1-
LA, Boston, SA,

Tier 2-
New Orleans, Utah, Cleveland, Phoneix, Houston

Tier 3- Toronto, Orlando, Detroit, GS., Dallas perhaps Portland

Tier 4- everyone else.

If we land an top 15 SG, then we will will contend. I think around Xmas teams not playing well will take Bargs off our hands for a good SG or SF.

We need an ISO scorer from the wings. Someone at the 2-3 spot who can create for themselves and get to the foul line. Probably average between 17-20 ppg. After that maybe a little more experience and size at the 4 and 5 spot.

Depends on how good Jermaine O'Neal is with the team.

But stating the obvious, the guys around Bosh, O'Neal and Calderon need to be upgraded.

It's possible to leapfrog the upper east playoff seeds, aside from the celtics

I think the biggest issue with our team is depth (which use to be our strength) ...It use to be we didn't have enough star power..but I think we're good now . Any NBA team that has 3 go to guys usually does pretty well ..but we're lacking a bench.

Give the Raps another star wing player or more depth on the bench and I'll consider them contenders!

By the looks of things now, we are trying the elite 8 man rotation like most top 4 seeds in NBA.

Which is how it should be. Depth is nice to plug in but come playoff time, the 9th and 10th guys in your rotation are going to make a minimal impact anyway.

Still hope Ukic can be a playmaker of the bench, that was one of the upsides of having Ford coming off the bench, he was a good change of pace to Jose. However in the limited action I saw him play, he does look like an up tempo guard. Hopefully he can run some draw and kick with Kapono and Bargnani.

The problem is once we get to our 4th through 8th men, the talent drop off is huge compared to a lot of other teams players in that range.

Lets just make it to the playoffs and out of the first round and we'll talk

Far from being contenders, but headed in the right direction. I obviously fully beleive the Raptors will be a playoff team, and could even win a first round matchup, but let's be honest, against teams like Boston, San Antonio, Los Angeles, and even teams like Pheonix, Dallas, Detroit, New Orleans, we are simply outclassed.

What this team needs is a solid scoring option on the wing (not necessarily an All-Star, but someone who can be counted on for 14-16ppg while deferring to Bosh, and maybe JO) a legitimate backup for Jose Calderon (Ukic may surprise), and a big man off the bench who can play heavy minutes in case of injury/foul trouble to Bosh and JO.

Seems like a lot to ask for, I know, but the contenders have it, and we simply do not.
