Worst baseball crime: Taking steroids or tipping opponents off to pitches?

With the new allegations on Alex Rodriguez, it's claimed that he was not only on roids since he could walk, but that he would also tip opponents to what pitches were coming so they could tee off on his pitcher. In turn, they would return the favor.

Now on ESPN this morning they asked which was worse: Steroids or tipping off opponents and 2/3 of the morons voting stated Steroids were worse. How the hell is making yourself better(by cheating with roids), worse than giving your opponents an advantage? That is the opposite of sport. To me this is the ultimate crime in any sport.

You don't sabotage your own teammates. If this is true then Arod should catch a beat down via the Big Unit.

I wouldn't be surprised if after AROID retires, he's considered more of an a**hole than Ty Cobb.

Cobb was a racist though and just a jerk in general. Can't get much worse than that.

If you think about it, both were products of their era. Cobb was from the south and blacks were just hated outright. A-Rod had buddies like Raffy, Canseco, and Gonzo to poison his ear and brain with the steroid stuff.

Considering there's not many people left who knew Cobb personally, if any at all, and if AROID keeps this crap up, I'm confident he'll be elevated to Cobb-like status.

I'm not saying they are 100% true, but if anybody was capable of such a thing it would be A-rod. He has admitted to using roids with the Rangers, which he denied before. But it's not out of the realm of possibilities that he's been roidin' it up since high school and tipping opponents off to pitches.

I'm sure tipping happens all the time, and I'm obviously not a professional baseball player, but that just seems like It's one of those never talked about, everyone knows about it, cardinal sin type things like gambling is.

well, one is actually a federal crime (controlled substance illegal in the US) and the other is very poor sportsmanship. Besides, they have proven he was a juicer. the rest is all hearsay.

So is smoking weed. Is smoking some reefer worst than tipping off opponents to pitches so that your own teammate can get worked? Lame argument.

Explain how Alex Rodriguez will be remembered as the biggest "asshole" in the mlb? So its reported he sacrifices his teammates iin order to get himself ahead? Gary Sheffield's antics in Milwaukee weren't much different. Arod signed a big contract? Kevin Brown signed the first 100mil contract, didn't perform, and acted like a jerk. And, why do you need to know Ty Cobb personally? There's plenty of source material on him. Factor in the number of records he still holds, or ranks in the top 5, and he'll always find his way into the discussion for his baseball achievements while demonizing him as a racist, alcoholic,.... So, I don't see what sets Alex apart as a bigger ******* than contemporary players like a Bonds, Kent, or Sheffield much less Ty Cobb.

Taking steroids = illegal. Without a prescription, you're supposed to be arrested.

Tipping opponents = though not against the law, is poor sportsmanship.

Basically, both represent poor sportsmanship. But, there's a huge difference between saying "Hey Johnny, Joey's throwing a fastball over the middle of the plate" and becoming a legend through cheating and breaking the law. I've played schoolyard ball. Everyone has displayed poor sportsmanship at some point. But, taking steroids was never one of those things.

Re: Worst baseball crime: Taking steroids or tipping opponents off to pitches?

Sheffield was never good enough for anyone to care about him being an a**hole. Everyone knew Bonds was juicing, so him being an ******* isn't much of a surprise. Remember a few years ago when everyone was saying, "Whew! Thank God we all know Arod isn't on the juice, I knew it all along! He's now the true GOAT. The greatest 'cause he did it naturally!" I do. Everyone and their mother said it when Bonds was accused. Now look at the situation. People are angrier at Arod now because of their niave thoughts a few years ago. Everyone viewed his as the saviour of baseball, the best, the natural. And now that he's been ousted, plus the fact that everyone thought he was an ******* even when they thought he was pure, and were willing to overlook it, the hate has been elevated beyond his peers. And to be accused of something like tipping off oppenents is enough. It doesn't matter if he's guilty or innocent, just the fact that he was accused now puts the thought into everyone's minds and he'll be forever associated with cheating, in every shape and form of it.

How can you not see that? Arod fanatic?
