Nets Looking to Move Yi, Cut Assistantsí Salaries?

Quote:

Mitch Lawrence of the Daily News reports Sunday that in spite of arranging to have Yi Jianlian spend most of the summer in New Jersey, the Nets are trying to move him this off-season. Lawrence says the Nets were privately critical of his shoot-first mentality. Meanwhile, cost cutting reportedly continues with the team talking about slashing assistantsí salaries by 50%, from a grand total of $1 million to $500,000.

very strange article. seems to contradict everything that's come out of the organisation until now.

i don't see the sense in it, either- yi's value is undoubtedly low right now and this will be his first offseason for the nets and therefore his biggest opportunity to adapt to what the nets want from him. and they are very thin at his position.

i'm not saying i want yi, personally. i regret the trade and wish we could have gotten something a lot better for RJ. but this article is making it sound like vandy has suddenly turned into jekyll and hyde... loving yi in workouts enough to trade for him, then suddenly wanting him gone after a disappointing second audition.

I'm sure they're just guaging his trade value; I doubt they actually move him without him being a throw-in a greater trade, like moving Carter.

Yi's value has to be pretty low right now and getting value back for him will be hard. Their best bet is to try to convince him to train in the US this summer and with team trainers/teammates/coaching staff so he can build some sort of relationship and understanding of how things are. I'm sure it was difficult last year with the Olympics and it being amplified as it was held in China. It should be tame this year hopefully.

Doesn't make any sense. Y would u trade for RJ and then get rid of the guy?
