Small Forwards who will post up Aldridge next year

Aldridge = 234 lbs
---------------------
Bucks - Bobby Simmons = 230 lbs
Cavs - Lebron James = 245 lbs
Celtics - Paul Pierce = 230 lbs
Clippers - Corey Maggette = 230 lbs
Grizzlies - Shane Battier = 230 lbs
Hawks - Josh Smith = 225 lbs
Heat - Antoine Walker = 245 lbs
Jazz - Andrei Kirilenko = 220 lbs
Kings - Ron Artest = 245 lbs
Knicks - Quentin Richardson = 236 lbs

Raptors - Charlie Villanueva = 240 lbs (will do it in practice)

bold = more of a center than Aldridge

I'm sure the team who drafts Aldridge will put him on a bulking program pronto.

If his slight frame helps him slip to #7 in the draft, all good. :pimp:

Aldridge will bulk up better than Bosh I think, his frame looks larger and more capable. I assume he's already trying to bulk up since the NCAA season ended to improve his draft stock, so it wouldn't surprise me if he gains 10-15 lbs before the NBA season starts

I'm pretty sure everyone who weighs more than camby can't post him up without getting their shot swatted

adamcz 06-14-2006 09:24 AM

Camby is a defensive freak, with no equals other than Kirilenko and Wallace. Is Aldridge this type of player?

Lascar78 06-14-2006 09:27 AM

I don't know, but his ability to defend is not solely determined by his weight as you seem to suggest.

Josh Smith came in even lighter than Aldridge and I don't see people posting him up left and right.

JohnnySic 06-14-2006 09:43 AM

How much does Bosh weigh? Probably less than Aldridge...

Chamberlain 06-14-2006 09:45 AM

It's around the same anyway. I'm pretty sure he's somewhere between 230 and 240.

Lascar78 06-14-2006 09:49 AM

Bosh is 6'10, 230. Must be why he gets abused in the post so much...

adamcz 06-14-2006 10:14 AM

Ability to defend is not solely determined by weight, but it is a big factor when you're guarding the post. Some people like Camby and Kirilenko overcome their weight disadvantage with superior skills. I haven't heard anything about Aldridge being one of those guys.

The point I'm trying to make is that Aldridge is not a center. Some SF's are heavier than him, most PF's are heavier than him, and pretty much all centers are. I just can't see drafting him to be your franchise center.

It seems like Steve Nash and the Suns have fooled fans into thinking that you don't need a center in today's NBA, and it's ok to put a mixed bag of forwards out on the floor, even if you don't have an elite point guard like Steve Nash.

I never thought that Aldridge was a center, but this new info about him being even lighter than we previously thought makes the idea stranger yet.

It's not a big deal. I remember Vince Carter posting up Sammy D this past summer and scoring over him in the post, Weird, a SG weighs just as much as you. I'm positive Kobe and Vince weigh just as much. He's definitely not a C.

garnett weighs 190-200 tops, and I don't see kobe and vince, who are both around 230, posting him up all the time. In phil jackson's book, he calls garnett "a corpse"

KG is at least 220. Maybe 230. Get real.

ty thomas = josh smith

Everyone fills out and bulks up - except Bradley and Camby - even Chandler is considerably thicker now than he was, which is why the back problems he had have dissipated.

Aldridge being 6'11 is a surprise. He'll get to 250 eventually.
